i'm not great at understanding people, not at all, it took me the best part of 10 years to figure out why people watched football, but i was just thinking about the royal wedding and i've drawn up a blank, i mean why would anyone, much less hundreds of thousands of people give up their day off to watch two people, worth absolutely nothing to society, kiss on a balcony? i mean seriously, WHY?!

edit: for cryin' out loud people! can we maybe stop insulting my reaction times?! i just said i was just thinking about it, i didn't say i'd been planning this thread for the past 3 months!

No idea. I think that it was mostly the news and newspapers telling us that we gave a crap when the majority of people did not give a shit.

I also have no idea why people get entainment from seeing a group of over paid wimps who fall over if there is a strong wind, and are unable to walk for 3 weeks if they stub their toe, try to kick a ball into a net for 90 mins.

It was the grandeur of the ceremony, even though they have no power they are still symbolic of the United KINGDOM. Many of us ordinary Brits couldn't really give two shits about it, but we got a day off and a party is a party. It "captured the hearts" of the nation; as I imagine many young girls want to be a princess, and Catherine is now a princess, despite her working class background. Also many Americans seemed to be taken in by the whole thing, possibly because the shiny things distracted their plebeian minds.

Why do people care about the royals in general?

Having said that, you can extend this to common or garden celebrity parasites.

Not many people actually did care. A lot of the attendees you wouldv'e seen on the telly were either seatholders, celebrities, rich people (because it was the place to be at the time) and actual inlaws. The regular Joe was also there of course, but he was more scarce than you'd think.

And most of the celebrators just found it a reason to party, same as any other cultural hoo - hah. I mean, I never met St. Patrick, I don't care if he brought Christianity to savages, I just wanna get drunk. Same logic.

Personally, I didn't think there was any harm in it. It was a nice occasion I guess, seeing everyone so gleefull. And it took our minds off the depression and sorts.

I did like the Queen's visit to Ireland, even though I fully committed to ignoring it. Turns out she's fairly intelligent. And decent.

Catchpa: Chiho epotard. Sounds like a Mexican slang insult.

Kind of late isn't it? I think this have been discussed before, the resolution was that British people needed something in the news that will hold delight.

If it was up to me I'd get rid of royal houses all together.

I mean, what is this; the Middle Ages?

Wow you are quick to the party...

Because it makes a nice pedestrian spectacle, it's like a live big brother and desperate housewives mixed into one, people eat that shit up.

Because she's quite pretty, and a decent looking monarchy might be good, we have to look at these people on our currency every day, so a hot Queen would be great for tourism.

Really though, I think the Royal family is much more accepted and understood these days, because of those vapid celebrities like Cheryl Cole, the Beckhams, and of course countless other 'celebs' who seem to have that sense of entitlement. The Royal family are fine, because can you imagine what would happen if people got to choose their Queen!. Polititians in the UK also make the Royal family look good. But the wedding etc, it was all really about getting a day off, and I appreciate it - nobody said we have to watch the wedding, I went on a bike trek with my brother instead.

A lot of people at St.Andrews said Kate would have to be buried in a Y shaped coffin... now that's the sort of Royal we need! Personally I'm no royalist, but I'd love to have a stag night organised by Prince Harry. Both princes and Kate are ok in my book, much less annoying than most celebrities and miraculously less annoying than any celebrity would be in their position.

I appreciated the Royal Wedding because it was a day off. If it wasn't for the occasional marriages they have that constitute days off, I'd have dissolved the monarchy years ago.

I don't know, I just wanted to see the flypast. The sound of Merlin engines... mmm...

The royal family leave me alone, I leave them alone. Should push come to shove, I'm sure a sniper rifle wouldn't be too hard to come by with a decent wad of cash and no questions asked. The ensuing manhunt would provide a good week or so of entertainment aswell.

...Can you explain it to me? Because I was never able to get it and it's very annoying when my family screams and I run down asking what's wrong and they just tell me someone scored. Ugh.

Why are we still talking about it? No, I didn't care and for some reason lots of people did which I didn't see the big deal of. Kinda late aren't you?

A Hermit's Cave
Rather late to this discussion, aren't we?

Anyway, I just think they should've held the wedding the following Monday, then the BBC news personnel would've gone into meltdown.
