Personally, I didn't think The Darkness was that good. It got boring and the voice of The Darkness got really annoying after about five minutes.

I remember enjoying the beginning of the game when I played it. Up until the bit where "spoiler spoiler spoiler". It was reasonably interesting after that but the action got a little repetitive and while I thought the whole subway thing did add to immersion, it did few other favours to the experience. I gave up what I presume to be around 2/3-3/4 of the way through and have no interest in picking it up again. It wasn't a terrible game...had some good, some bad, some weird and incomprehensible and didn't hold my attention. With so many good and great games around, why spend your time with an average one? I am tempted to read the graphic novel I understand it's based on.

I've played it a good chunk of the way through, but I couldn't get past the fact that practically nobody in the game would acknowledge The Darkness' existence. It was a bit too surreal doing all this supernatural stuff and all the characters acting like it was just another day in the life of Jackie.

Smartass Answer: We forget about it because we have flash lights n' stuff...

OT Answer: I can't believe no one but me seems to remember Darkwatch. It was fantastic.

Come to think of it, the premise kind of like RDR Undead Nightmare
This is why I haunt threads I post in, Darkwatch was fantastic!

It was definitely a fun ride, though short. I bought it for like 20 bucks about a year ago and found the story mode fun, but I could never find a multiplayer game so I traded it in soon after.

I actually bought The darkness the day it came out and I loved it. Then I bought it years after I sold it off and ,again, I loved it. Though the "mini open world" sucks, the story is fun, the shooting was very enjoyable, and the presentation was magnificent. I absolutely loved Jackie's monologues during loading screens, which are still the best loading screens I have ever encountered in any game, ever.

I rented the Darkness a while back, and loved what I saw. I played right up to the point where you're in that WW1-esque area. I forget all the details. I loved what I did up to that point, though.

Ah well I am not a shooter fan so I can see through the flaws in that area. I mean only so few weapons..not that interresting done.

But no what I liked was simple tentacles of EVIL! The happy Om Nom Nom of hearts being eaten. And knowing all to well how evil and nasty it was even though Jacky himself tried to do the good thing.

Yup one of those heroes tries to do the best..in a rotten world.

No I like the game for its story, its atmosphere of nastyness! That and earning an achievement for sitting an hour while your girl friend sleeps on you :)

And now The Darkness 2 is coming :)

Joy of Joys..a few more hearts to nibble on :)

So my roommate got "The Darkness" for $3 over the break and now I am trying it out. Honestly, I can't figure out why this game isn't remembered at all. If I remember the dates correctly, this is the first game Yahtzee did a review on, but no one seems to remember it. It has a pretty immersible game world compared to other games.

I guess the question for discussion is: Have you ever played "The Darkness" or another game you found fun, but that the rest of the world forgot about?
It's got a fair number of fans... but having played the demo, I find it pretty unremarkable. And it's based on a pretty shit comic. The guy who wrote the first six issues is pretty much embarrassed by it and it's pretty much a collection of all of his cliches.

Of course I remember it, especially since I can't find bloody thing anywhere. I heard there was some talk about sequel at San Diego Comic Con but nothing has been officially confirmed yet.

It was a pretty mediocre game. Playable, and certainly not a waste of money if you got it from a bargain bin, but with a LOT of problems. It felt like a lot of the good stuff that was going for it didn't get fleshed out as much as they could have been.

Also the plot was completely retarded, but having read the comic book "completely retarded" is pretty much par for the course.

Getting an achievement for sitting on the couch and watching TV with your girlfriend until she falls asleep was pretty cute, though.
