Why did/would you start smoking?

i started smoking because i wanted to smoke. i quit smoking because i didn't want to smoke anymore. sounds kinda dumb when i write it out like that, but that really is the sole reason i started and stopped smoking.

For me it was either that or become a raging alcoholic hahahaha jk. School, personal issues, and shit economy drove me to it. Ironically the shitty economy also drove me away from it as it is an expensive habit to maintain (pending on how much you smoke).

I have smoked one cigarette a month for the past year and a bit, just so that I can feel like the coolest cat around - cigarette in my left hand, saxophone in my right, swish black suit, either at a jazz bar, or just in the street - preferably in the rain or under a streetlamp, but whatever.
One cigarette a month.

The subject of smoking has come up a lot around were I live, and I wanted to ask you guys, why did/would you smoke?

I would never start smoking. It's costly and horribly unhealthy. No thanks.

I started around 13, and quit at 17. Regularly smoking, that is. I still smoke at parties.
I smoked around a pack a week.

Why?
I'm not sure. I tried it, and liked it.

Someone offered me a cigarette once and I already smoked pot so I took the cigarette. Didn't matter to me. Now I only smoke if someone else offers. I don't buy any of it though and I will give some money to my friends as to not be a complete freeloader when offered.

When we finished the hardest part of our training we all partook in smoking a cigar. I don't smoke besides these times, it's only cigars on celebratory occasions with the select few of my close friends.

I've never smoked a cigarette before, and I never will. It just seems like too big of a health risk.

I am a weird one, I smoke but have yet never got my own pack... ever :-D no no i am not a freeloader or waster or anything like that I only smoke if i am offered witch is near 3 times a week from friends.

On top of that I also cant see the additive part of smoking, your always told that "smoke one and thats you hooked for life" are the scare tactics your parants/guardians/teachers told you when you were young.

sugar is the worst. <--- have some growing up to do ... still lol.
