This is the Majority of what most responses will be.

Basically "I got it because it's Kotor with better combat mechanics"

then of course there is the sex.

Seriously though I feel like it's KOTOR next-gen-erized. I think it's a fantastic game though don't get me wrong, I'm about to finish my second playthrough lol. I love the combat on the PC version, it's got me hooked.

I must admit it was mainly because it was a Bioware game and I loved KotOR. That said, I'd done some reading about it beforehand and it sounded pretty decent. Turns out it was!

Because I love RPGs/3rd person cover shooters and I heared it was good. Which it was except it is to short and the "extra content" was just copy/pasted.

I've never played KOTOR, don't really like Star Wars. I do like Star Trek & other Sci-Fi though, & RPG games.

I wasn't really that aware of Mass Effect before I got it, but I bought a 360 October last year, then Game were doing a promotion around Christmas time & both my Mum & I were running out ideas what to get me as a present (since I bought myself every 360 game I was interested in when I bought it), so I thought I'd try it out.

I was also attracted to the character customisation aspect of it.

Also I'm glad I remained pretty much naive about Mass Effect until I played it, with low expectations it was hard to be disappointed & I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thinking about it, it's the one of the only Sci-Fi RPG's I've played, except Fallout:Brotherhood of Steel, but that doesn't really count.

I own a lot of Bioware games, and have been reasonably satisfied with them. So when Mass Effect came out for the PC, I had to have it just because it was Bioware...oh and the sex, can't forget that. I guess I like it because it has a pretty good storyline coupled with some nice play mechanics, and is generally a fun game. The only thing that I didn't like is that the character creation system is still limited, if your gonna give me the option let me create the character I want.

I loved KotOR and KotOR2 (despite its all too obvious flaws), and Jade Empire was freakin' sweet, so I thought if Bioware can make games like those (I know, Obsidian made KotOR2) then Mass Effect had to be pretty good. And I wasn't disappointed, although the lack of variety in planet maps and building layouts was something of a let down.

Ditching D&D/D20 mechanics is, like, the best design decision Bioware has ever made.

Is it because you are a Star Trek fan?
Nope.
Or you like RPGs?
Yes.
You enjoyed their past KOTOR games?
Kinda.
Just why?
I really like Bioware, and I heard enough positive things about it that I decided to get it. I don't regret my purchase at all, but like others I dislike the lack of variety and inventory management. I've spent a good 60+ hours on it so far (it's only short if you ignore side quests), and once in a while I'll play a bit more. Sex and alien sideboob was a nice bonus, too.

I bought KOTOR on the Xbox a few years ago and replayed it several times. I didn't hesitate to pick up Bioware's next game Jade Empire, and have to say I wasn't disappointed with it. The story might have been a little long winded but I enjoyed playing it immensely.

So when I read about Mass Effect back in 2006, I became exited. I made a point of making Mass effect one of my first games when I bought my 360 back in Xmas 07. It has its flaws but Mass Effect is one of my favourite games.

I got Mass Effect for one simple reason.

It looked fun.

My purchase had nothing to do with the fact that Bioware made it, although their contribution did raise my expectations of the depth of the storyline [Which it met and surpassed, of course]. I'll admit I'm an avid RPG fan, but I don't buy games simply because they're RPGs, I buy them because they look fun or like something that'll interest me.

And I have to say, Mass Effect was fun.

I got it as I trust Bioware to make a polished, replayable product with an excellent story. And they did not let me down. I really enjoyed playing through it again not only as a different class, but as a bad-ass instead of a cutsie little angel.

I just hope the DLC comes out a bit quicker than 1 module in an entire year - too slow.

Defiantly the curves, alien strippers and the lesbians. Actually I had no idea there was any sex at all in this game until I played through it. It was so tasteful and brilliantly tied with the story I loved it.

I bought it because it looked great and really fun. Should I need another reason?

I really enjoyed the "choice" system and how it let me "play a character", I went with a "badass goodguy" a take no shit person who always tries to do the right thing.

I'm probably the only one who wasn't influenced by the fact Bioware made it, i'm ashamed to admit i've never heard of them before.

The main reason i bought it was because i hadn't seen my friend (who is, like me - An rpg Junkie) for 3 days straight because he was playing mass effect. I thought, If he likes it that much i would to.

And it was....alright-ish

I was in an RPG drought at the time and I longed for something that was not an FPS. Mass Effect fixed that well.

It was a Bioware game supposedly set in a "believable" future as was stated in the Sci vs. Fi special on the Sci-Fi channel. That sold me on buying the game. It pretty much is the reason I bought an Xbox 360. The only downside to it is that is set a really high standard for me as to what a 360 game should be, especially since it was the first 360 game I played.

I played it at my buddies place first and found like a gazillion glitches and bugs in it after about an hour. The weapons locked up on my constantly and the fights usually ended up being me running around with an untrained weapon. My mako decided that it could fly sometimes. Normal gun ammo was replaced with mako shells. Loads of things just from the first hour of play testing at a friends place.

Also the Fox News story on it was so hilarious that I just had to see how much sexing there really was in the game. Turns out that interplanetary super heroes have about as much sexual experience as 13 year old boys...

I've never played KotOR, well I tried 2 once but I got bored from the first tutorial where you're a droid fixing the ship.
