Why didn't YOU play Mass Effect?

Because I refuse to purchase a game that falls under any of these 3 categories:

1. Has an online pass.

2. Holds parts of the story to ransom as either DLC or a used game punishment.

3. Is published by EA.

I also discourage people to buy them too. New or used.

Probably because shooters are way, way down the list of genres I like. Even more so ones with RPG elements, because if I'm going to be forced to play a shooter I'll play one where I don't have to constantly fiddle with guns and shit like a fussy mum.

I loved the first Mass Effect, but I was severely let down by the second. The whole game felt smaller, it shifted tone and setting to a style more befitting a comic book than the space opera of the first, the gameplay felt smaller thanks to the focus on cover-shooting and the absence of the Mako, and its story was a 100% contrived, out-of-order mess with focus on the completely wrong events.

I decided to wait and hear Smudboy's analysis on ME3 before playing it myself, but reading spoilers and the fan feedback has certainly justified my decision, I feel. I'll wait until the ending's sorted out before diving in!

It's too long for me... I don't get that much time to game, and rarely can get into stories unless they are on handhelds...

I want to try it, but know that I will never do it justice, so have avoided!

Saying that I do have Skyrim, but with that I see as lots of mini stories rather than one main one, and I know I can chuck on skyrim and run around for an hour and have fun, without worrying about the story or progression!

I have both 1 & 2 but they were both on sale for like £5 on Steam and they were never really worth much more to me personally.

Given that ME3 isn't on Steam I doubt i'll get it at all.

Got halfway through ME1, got bored, stopped playing.

Then a while back, I saw ME2 on sale at Target for only 15 bucks, so I said "Ok, well I'll give it a shot again, and if I like it and finish it, I'll go pick up 2 since it's so cheap right now."

...I don't think I even made it to where I got the first time before I got bored.

So yeah, it's that I was disliking it, the atmosphere, story or characters. I was just...not having fun. And I don't like wasting my time with games that I'm not having fun with (I've had fun with bad games, and I've been bored with games of the year. It just varies)

I got Mass Effect when it came out, and barely remember anything from my play through. I found the second one too boring to finish. When three came out, I had no desire to purchase it already judging from my experiences with the first two. Even if I was interested, I'm simply not buying EA games.

The Mass Effect series just doesn't seem interesting and in my tastes, so I didn't buy it. Pretty straight forward for me. Though I admit, the "renegade" protagonist in the new game is quite appealing. A vicious, non-caring son of a *****.

I didn't play Mass Effect because I do not own a Xbox 360 and didn't feel like getting into the series on the second installment.
