I like thier new stuff. Minutes to Midnight, Thousand Suns, all of it. I like it. I listen to their new stuff. While I'm editing videos I'll listen to New Divide and Waiting For the End. But a lot of people complain that they've gotten whiny and crap like that. I like it. Bands evolve. That's what life is like. You gotta adapt or die.

My fellow Excapists, what do you think about their newer music?
You answered your own question as to why people don't like their newer music.

And to answer your question if I do or not: I don't. It's whiny and crap.
Although I did state that people said that, that's what I've heard. I was wondeirng if anyone had any different reasons.

And I can agree that it's a bit whiny, but they've always been a bit whiny. When I first heard Waiting For The End (a dark winter morning before heading off to school) I was confused as hell. I didn't think it was them. But it was them. And though it sounded different, it wasn't the different that My Chemical Romance became. Linkin Park are still Linkin Park. My Chemical Romance became an entirely different band.
Perhaps I can enlighten you on my opinion.

Hybrid Theory and Meteora were angst-driven and aspiring to ape the shadow left by Papa Roach after Infest. And I loved them for it. I've never been a huge fan of most rap artists, arguably the only one I listen to is Eminem and even he has many songs I don't like. But when rap is combined well with another genre that I like, it becomes something that I enjoy listening to - In this specific case, "Rap-metal". It is a similar reason to why I enjoy Lupe Fiasco or Hollywood Undead.

I understand the "They evolved and found their own sound" argument, I do. One could argue that it was even a logical evolution after listening to songs like "My December" or ..."Easier To Run", which for the record I love. I won't go so far as to say I hate their "new stuff" but in my own opinion they fell into the same pitfall that Papa Roach did when they were trying to dig their way out of the "Nu Metal" hole they had been pushed in to.

It is very difficult to explain without a clashing of opinion unless you can see the other person's view without getting offended. To me, Hybrid Theory and Meteora were made for the express purpose of catering to angsty teenagers, and being one when I first listened to them, it was exactly the type of music I wanted. Minutes to Midnight was a radical departure from their previous releases (or at least what was played on commercial radio was), so much so that I just could never enjoy the actual music. I believe that I would not have had an issue had they not released it as Linkin Park, but what would the point in that be?

To boil it down into a pithy statement: I liked them for being "Rap-Metal".

[sub]On the other hand, I have not given their new albums much of a chance since I massively expanded my music library about a year ago and if I were to actually devote some time to listening to Minutes to Midnight and A Thousand Suns, I would probably like them. After all, how many people can say that in half an hour they listened to Michael Jackson, Polkadot Cadaver, Suicide Silence, Deftones, The Acacia Strain, Blink-182, and Pyotr Tchaikovsky?[/sub]

I've loved pretty much all their albums, including A Thousand Suns, however I can see that it's not the same Linkin Park style as Hybrid Theory and Meteora and that'll be the main thing that puts a lot of people off of it.

I loved Minutes to Midnight, but a Thousand Suns just seemed... "eh."
I enjoyed some songs on it such as the Catalyst and Blackout but the rest seemed to sound (as you said) whiny. Still a pretty big fan of theirs though :)

Found all the melody's really weak and their new style is a bit lame compared to their original rocky beats.

I'm quoting you for Polkadot Cadaver. Finally someone else who appreciates their brilliance.

And aside from Suicide Silence, I like all those other bands/musicians too!!!

OT: I don't so much dislike the new Linkin Park, so much as I know they'll never release another Hybrid Theory. When you release an album that solid right from the start, the rest of your material is going to be held up to that standard, and unfortunately, at least in my opinion, they have yet to reach that same level. I've enjoyed their newer albums for what they are, but I don't think they'll ever recapture the glory they once had.

I started listening to them around Meteora. When Minutes to Midnight came out, it took a little time to get used to, but it grew on me after awhile. A Thousand Suns I loved from the first time I heard it and played it over and over again. I can get why people don't like it, as it's so different from their old stuff, but given how nu-metal was a dying genre I can see why they jumped ship. And to be honest, as much as I love Hybrid Theory and Meteora, I'm glad they did. I'm not a nu-metal fan to begin with, I just liked Linkin Park. And I like the direction they've take. So...yeah.

Except for The Messenger. That shit can go jump off a bridge. Fortunately, it's at the end of the album, so it's easy to just skip over entirely.

Isn't it interesting? Nobody I know has even heard of them unless I have specifically made them listen to "A Wolf in Jesus Skin" or "Chloroform Girl". And I just found out they released a new album this year! I must obtain it!

The new album is good, but I still give it to Purgatory Dance Party. Pure Bedlum for Halfbreeds is me and my friend's jam. Chloroform Girl is a great sing along song though. Todd Smith's voice is like sex, and I feel comfortable enough as a straight man to admit that.

I'm assuming you have heard of Todd Smith's (multiple) other bands, yes? Knives Out, El Creepo, The Altar Boys, and his old band before Polkadot, Dog Fashion Disco?

Bands evolve and change, yes. That does not mean you have to continue loving a band if they move in a direction you're not a fan of.

I was of the right age and right angst level when Hybrid Theory was released, I became a fan. Reanimation was meh, Meteora was great, Collision Course with Jay-Z was enjoyable in parts. Minutes to midnight was where I started to lose interest. Their sound, whilst they may have "evolved" is no longer pleasing to my ears, nor does it evoke any real reaction from me.

Obviously from your OP, the newer sound works for you, which is great, kudos. Music is entirely subjective though. I'll like whatever sounds get a response from me, you'll do the same, neither of us are wrong, everyone lives happily ever after.

Well, I wasn't too big of a fan of them in the old days, but I have yet to hear of their newer stuff.

Reanimation was their strongest CD. This is a fact that I made up which can be backed up by these pie charts that I doctored.

Shit... I lost the charts...

Even so! My point still stands. Nothing will ever come close to the awesomeness that is Reanimation.

NOTE: I am dead serious. In my eyes, Reanimation was their best to date. Nothing has even come close since.

I don't have an opinion on their more recent works because, well... I haven't heard them. I don't mind their earlier works, but I've more or less lost interest in them, favouring a number of other bands a lot more. With the exception of a few select bands, I tend to judge individual songs than entire albums or whatnot. It's not that I dislike the band so much as I pay them no heed.

Dog Fashion Disco and The Alter Boys yes, and after a quick Google search I can deduce that I would like Knives Out! and El Creepo! as well.

I'll say Todd Smith is one of the most talented vocalists I've heard. I think the only other man who would have anything on him is Mike Patton.
