Why do current RPGs not have scythes?

I don't see any reason why a modified scythe couldn't be included as a weapon. My weapon of choice in these sort of games is the axe, probably the best example of tool modified to weapon, so I'd be up for some sort of scythe made weapon. I can't think of a reason other than the fact that scythes never made the transition from tool to weapon where things like knives and axes did.

There're scythes specifically designed for combat, they look rather bland, though. And the farming tools are just silly for many obvious reasons. So yeah, I can live perfectly fine without any scythes in my games.

Well, it's unweildy and cumbersome. Think about it, if you swung it like an axe, none of the blade would strike them, only the point (which could break, as it's cheap and not designed for it). It's also weighty and awkward to swing in an effective way. As far as I remember some militias had scythes with the blade rotated 90 degrees so it would be a bit like a glaive, but then I suppose it doesn't look like a scythe so it loses cool points.

Also, it's just stupid. It's cool in a way that a 13 year old goth kid might find cool. Seriously, the only reason you ever see scythes in games and things is because death is shown as having one (which is because he's supposed to 'harvest' souls), it's cheesy and obvious.

I think they can be modified to BE a bit more practical (see Polish and Russian revolutions). Maybe you just beat people to death with the heavy end :p

Doesn't Dark Souls have a scythe weapon? I don't know, it's been a while since I last played it.

Scythes are pretty awesome as magic weapons associated with darkness and death spells. We're talking about a fantasy RPG here, not something high on realism. So the argument that scythes are not practical weapons IRL holds no weight unless you want to create a realistic medieval fighting game.

Scythes are unwieldy and cumbersome
So are buster swords, yet they are popular in Final Fantasy and other RPGs.

But where would you put this scythe on your rpg?

Stuck to the grenade to slice people pre explosion? What's the point? They'll be blown up anyway.
Attached to the main barrel to be used as a bayonet? Absurd, have you tried swinging an rpg launcher? Those things are heavy.

This whole idea seems daft.

Hahaha,

Very clever ;) You got a laugh out of me.

I'm surprised the Scythe is getting so much hate. What's the big deal?

Team Fortress's 2 Soldier has a shovel.

Jackie Chan uses a ladder.

Ness uses a Yo-Yo.

All is good..

Someone suggests a Scythe to make a come back and some people lose their shit?
Cuz Yahtzee called it a garden tool in a review, there fore it.must be hated by the legion that follows his every word. Even when hes just talking crap.
