Why do gamers (people on this website) generally dislike sports?

It is one thing I have never understood. I would consider myself as an avid gamer ever since around middle school, which is going back a while now. But at the same time I was growing up I was always playing sports and watching sports.

Every time there is some sports related topic on the escapist it usually does two thing :
1- Disappears very quickly because nobody responds.
2- Gets a lot of hate about sports spewed at it.

I would think that many serious gamers would also love sports and be generally interested in the world of sports. I can understand that there are those who are afraid of the sunlight but I don't think that really makes up the vast majority of gamers. I love to waste hours upon hours playing pretty much any video game but I also LOVE going to hockey games or watching football or nascar. I just don't understand why there is such a harsh disconnect.

Also, many gamers are nerds or ex-nerds who have endured years of being beaten up by muscle-headed sport-obsessed dimwits on the playground while growing up. Me included. Gaming is the leisure activity that you do to get away from all those sports people.

I'm actually a sports fan.

I would consider myself more of a Basketball player/fan than a gamer.

I'm a jock who knows alot of nerdy and geeky things and plays more games than the average bear.

Dont know why... its becoming more mainstream.. more hybrids such as myself emerge... but you got alot of hardcore and old hardcore gamers here, and it wasnt always such an accepted medium.

I don't like sports, probably due to my experience as a child when I would never get the ball which caused me to hate the sports.

I suck at sports, but I love the Winter Olympics, Hockey, and Soccer. It's just so exciting. I do hope to begin exercising a bit or something because I'm scared of obesity and heart disease.

Edit: I also got picked on in Gym. It was my worst class and the only one that prevented me from getting straight A's in elementary and junior high school. Hated it so much. Now I enjoy watching it.

I dislike sports because it just seems boring to me. I don't mind playing sports every now and then, but I don't understand how people like my brother can watch basketballs/baseball. My dad watches NASCAR, what's so fun about watching people drive 300MPH in a circle?!

This. I actually like sports, i'm just not good at them. I especially enjoy soccer.

I dont dislike sports but I dont like them either, really I just dont care about them at all, seems like most american sports are just an excuse for lots of advertising anyway, hell football has been tho numerous changes to accomidate advertising

I had a family member who really liked sports. Six hours of football 3 or 4 times a week gets really old, really fast.

I've hated sports and football since then, although in recent years I've enjoyed tossing a ball around. If I'm going to get competitive about something, though, I'd rather it be martial arts.

I don't care much for them, but I do like being active, biking, walking, paintball (if you count that), etc. I just hate how sports have become so commercialized, most professional athletes get millions of dollars a year, while people who do important jobs, such as doctors, usually get underpaid and overworked.
