Realism, which is ironic... since most of the games that use it are far beyond real.
Why does it have to be one or the other?
Using annoying points of realism in a game that's not realistic is just taking the piss.

If the realistic side adds fun to the game, then I'm all for it.

Meh just about anything can be annoying if you let it be; besides friendly fire certainly has its place in certain games imo.

But if a person shoots on purpose at his own team surely that isnt realistic. And maby friendly fire should only count if you frow a grenade or anything that explodes.

To add realism, lower gernade spamming and to encourage careful care when dealing with explosive weapons like rocket launchers and mortars etc etc.

Realism, but I wish that didn't apply to Oblivion, this game sometimes has your allies get in your way of killing something just so they could kill something and possibly get killed.

to teach players not to grenade spam, be more carefull where your shooting and know where your team mates are because they might startle you and you might end up killing them and realism.

To punish teamates when they've done something bad/are being annoying as hell.

Or realism.

Best example: play Bad Company 2 online without it. Then play with it. It's starkly different. Almost no noobtube and CG spam all over, a lot more coordination between teams.

Maby there should be a vote when you go online if there is friendly fire or not because evryone seems to have a different opinion. But I see what you mean.

realism, adding a layer of skill so you couldn't shoot at anything moving, randomly but had to identify it as an opponent etc, also in the games I play retards that shoot teammates on purpose almost always get banned for a few days.

Because sometimes the best way to convey the concept of lanes of fire and not having people run around like a fucking spaz is to put two rounds into the back of said person's head.

To add difficulty and consequences to people who just spray bullets and spam grenades. My question, why do most FPS' now only have friendly fire in the realism mode where you have no hud and increased bullet damage? Such as in Bad Company 2 and MW 2.

What is the point off friendly fire?
To stop your from grenade spamming, shooting unconrollably and things like that.
The only problem I've encountered with Friendly fire is:
Me throwing a grenade + dumb teammates rush and stand ON TOP of MY nades = -10 points in CoD4 Harcore TDM.

So that I can fire an RPG at the ground at the start of the match, of course.
