Its really starting to piss me off I dont want to import a console cause I cant afford it and us in AUS and NZ have to wait yonks, I dont f'n care if its in american english as long as i can understand the story line. Even nintendo is starting to do this and thyre usually quite good with world wide releases. G onto the brawl site, in Jap its release is janurary and in america in feburary but in UK its still undecided. SOmeone needs to slap the game companies up there assess and get some effecient translators. ( even thought the difference between in american and british is that the spelling has changed to be shorter, lazy bastards)

Well I live in Australia too and the delays do annoy me a bit, but when titles are delayed months after pretty much the rest of the world it does get annoying, clear example the Xbox 360 (World Wide Release) according to Microsoft however we got that like 4-5 months after the US, Europe and Asia. But of course the US makes a lot of these games so why shouldn't they get it first? it's just when the game is made in Asia and America and Europe get it months before us that it starts to getting annoying.

Surely being close* to Japan means you get the game as soon as it's translated?

*Closer than Europe.

Welcome to the early days of the Nintendo/Master System-era.
Back in those days a lot of games where neever released to Europe because of the companies simply not wanting a PAL-version of it (Final Fantasy anyone?) and not to even mention they concidered some of the games "too violent" for the PAL-market so they rehashed it/remaked it and even changed the name of the games (Probotector/Contra the list goes on forever) and even completely and totally fogot abotu releasing its sequels to PAL.

The word "clusterfuck" comes to mind.
It's like the dark ages of videogame history all again.

You had to take a quote from Yahtzee didn't ya? well he has made few complaints in his videos about delays too, "Super Paper Mario" is one that comes to mind and I think "Assassins Creed" as well.

i moreover think that Europe is screwed over because of the languages. We got a ton of that here.

But there is almost no excuse as to why in australia is it, that there is so much time between games, that it isn't funny. Maybe the australian government has some kind of very strict restriction on it, which the multiple age certifiers in Europe might also have a say in.

Anyone remember 1080 Snowboarding? The N64 title that was launched in the UK six months after it was released in Australia, for the sole reason that people won't buy a snowboarding game in summer. Madness.

I think it has to do with Australia being on the European PAL standard. Before a game is released to europe, it will be translated, usually into French, German, Spanish and Italian (as well as English). Only then is it recoded for PAL machines, so Australia get it then, despite there being no reason for them to have waited, as they don't get the translations anyway.

It's not fair, and even then they're often left without it for a while after, for no reason.

More companies need to just make their games region free as all PS3 games are unless stated otherwise. I could import GT 4 if I wanted to (and could read Japanese.) no problem and I live in the states. Heavenly Sword for example includes a bunch of alternate audio tracks right on the disc so its a good choice for EU importers who would like something that has languages other than English.

Clusterfuck isn't a Yahtzee original, it's been around for decades.

Back on topic. I've not really noticed a major delay in games... maybe I ony tend to get the big name games that get simultanious worldwide release, or maybe I just don't pay as much attention to dates. I've never really found myself wishing for a game to hurry up and come out. well, except maybe Fallout 3.

I was sure we had Brawl in the UK, then I noticed how old this thread is. I can honestly say I've never noticed much discrepancy in release dates in recent years.

Because Japan fears getting nuked again, duh. You gotta show these people you mean business.

The less stupid reason would be the conversion from NTSC to PAL with all the added languages to the box art and the additional trudge through the PAL version of the ESRB which I hear are a bit more anal about their judgement.

Actually, for most games we do get the translations, it's only a recent trend to start gutting them for some odd reason. Mostly though, you understand the process.

Also, wow this thread is old.
