Some examples of how we've been screwed over:
-Censoring games: kind of explains it self, but if you want to see how bad it is you should check out this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ocu8JqD7EEk&translated=1
-Banning games: You remember that famous third-person cover based shooter for the xbox 360 which became a benchmarks for modern day graphics and gameplay? Well we haven't since it was banned from a german release.
-Releasing movies late: I can't listen to a single podcast without someone mentioning some hot new release in cinemas. After about 2 months they start talking about spoiler, well guess what, the movie hasn't been released here yet and it won't be released for another 4 moths.
-TV shows: Firefly for example was never shown in Germany. In the show scrubs we are still behind 2 seasons. But even worse than all of that is the time these shows air. Guess at what time How I Met Your Mother airs. No, really, take a second to think about it. If you guessed at 9 in the morning you are correct. Another example is scrubs, it airs at 10.45 pm.

Do you live in a country with similar problems? Your opinions?

Edit 1: I also didn't mention the price on games. 65 Euros for a new game? You know that equals about 100 US dollars? Who would pay that much for a new game?

I think people who live in, say, The Sudan are getting screwed over just a little bit more than being behind on TV shows.

Just buy austrian games, they are german, but uncensored. Hell most of the time they are even cheaper as well.

Don't forget losing to Spain.... Oh well Uruguay later today.

OT: Here, in 'Merica, we always have some Bible-Thumper, or silly Liberal (hey they agree on something) trying to censor games, but they never actually do.

the season 8 of scrubs isn't bad, but season seems to be a punishment devised by the creator to punish fans of the show.

Edit: I realized after I posted this it could have been seen as dickish bragging. I just wanted to warn against how terrible season 9 of scrubs was.

Austrian Online Shops have the tendency to have ridiculous prices, regularly at least 20? above the normal retail price. You're much better off with amazon.uk or (to a degree) play.com

@OP: You're being pretty whiny. There is nothing at all you're not allowed to get in Germany besides child pornography, and the release date problem is getting better and better. Christ, it's annoying.

like I said, the shops I frequently visit tend to be cheaper as their german counterparts at least. Buying stuff from UK is difficult for me, as I don't own a credit card.

If this annoys you why would you even take the time to read my post? The title clearly states what this is about.

Blame your crappy socialist government. Seriously. It is all your government's fault. Whine to them.

Not true, our local ratings board (usk) is not contracted by the government.

Yeah, I bought Stranglehold in Germany, so I totally understand your concerns.
The answer is, probably, your government or just that nobody cares enough to un-screw over guys like you.
The only thing I can't agree with your are the price tags.
In Russia, it's also approximately sixty-five euros for a new release. So, you're not the only ones.

No it does not. I'd have expected something more political and less about entertainment. See this:

I seriously thought this topic was going to be on something else. Nothing particular in mind, games and film release dates weren't top of my mental check list though. LOL.

Wrong, the USK only do their job the way they are told. They have to rate the games the way the law dictates, and the law is made by the government. You can blame pretty much anyone except the USK. Hate the BpjM for the hate-filled, incompetent, fraudulent, obsolete institution that it is. As I do :)

Pfft. Not only is that talk over for months now, but it's also always been populist crap that would've never seen the light of day. No need to be afraid there :p

1. You can get any censored game uncensored online... it's a moot point.

2. We have the best synchronisations in the world, so it obviously takes some time. Original releases are almost everytime denied by the american publishers/right-holders. Again a moot point.

3. Same as 2. plus the TV-stations decide what and when they want to air. Complain to them (Pro7 in your case). Some series are not even for sale/lease outside of the U.S., so the german stations can't pick them up at all, or they are in a bundle with other shows that the station don't want do air.

Btw. Firefly has already been shown on SKY/SciFi...
