Why do Homosexuals even care about Christian discrimination?

Ok, let's get something out of the way, I'm not some religious Zealot preaching about why discrimination is justified, and I'm sure we can all agree that it's immoral and ignorant.

Now, that being said, it's always perplexed me when gays complain about "Not being able to get married" or "being banned from the church" and things of that nature. Why do they even care? If I where gay I would want no part of an organization that hates me. I mean, this is a religion that says they're going to hell for having a genetic/uncontrollable mental difference from other people. That doesn't put up a red flag? Even if they where Christian, then they would believe that no matter what they're going to hell anyways, so I don't see why they would want to waste their time and money at a church full of pissed off homophobes when they could be out enjoying their lives with people who accept them.

Am I missing something?

Thing is, Homosexuality and Christianity are neither mutually exclusive nor inclusive. Given that most homosexuals are not raised as homosexuals, aha, we have the situation where many of them, upon finally revealling/understanding/etc their homosexuality, will still hold affection for the church of their youth.

Or they just might be religious by nature, and feel close to God. I don't know, but I must confess it seems rather harsh to deny someone an environment based on the fact they like the same sex (entertaining deviance that it is).

Well to be fair I think they are upset because maybe by right they have chosen to believe in whatever religion of their fancy and it seems kind of cruel to be thrown out for things that are not their choice.. no one chooses what they find attractive. I didn't choose to find red heads sexy that's just who I am. So to discriminate people for things they do not have control over and for suggesting that they are inferior and indeed 'sinners' because of it.... I can see why the homosexuals would be mad. I would like to note though that in no way do all homosexuals think about this stuff, I mean one of my closest friends is a lesbian and she once said she couldn't care less about getting married. So it's not really all of them, but sometimes religion based discrimination effects different people. And so a lebsian in Perth city, Australia can just go about unfussed because religion really isn't a big deal over here (the only important things in Perth city are construction cranes) but over in the heartlands of Texas a homosexual has to put up with constant insults and discrimination. Often based on people trying to change them so by right they have every reason to respond in anger. Because homosexuality is not a defining aspect of their personality and in general they are people like anyone else and merely want to be treated equally and it is hard to do in places where religion is a major force of prejudice. There are still areas where violent hate crimes and even killings of gay men and lesbians occurs and their deaths are for no better reason other than the fact that they are gay.
It goes without saying that this world still has a lot of quick judgements about people and very unfair judgements. So therefore people can't relax while being constantly judged by large groups of people. I mean some people can ignore the big mean bully on the playground and others can't.... it's all about being human.

you and me both, rookie. welcome to the escapist.

they care because it's arseholes like avykins who discriminate against them because they're different and don't abide by certain morals laid down by fanatics who want a perfect world with tight sphincters, men and women living together and never having sex unless they need to carry on the name of whatever family they're proud of.

homosexuals want to be accepted, and they want homosexuality to be accepted as a natural orientation. marriage is as symbolic to them as it is to heterosexual people, they just want to be able to experience that. it's cruel that they can't, just because they like the same sex.

I will be honest. I do not like homosexuals as a whole. I do not care in the slightest about what they stick in what hole but most of the ones I have met feel the need to force their sexuality in your face. Like they are gay and that is the biggest aspect of their lives. They can not rest until you say you accept them when most of us could care less what the fuck they do. I have only met one dude who did not do that and was actually just a fucking awesome dude whose sexuality was just a part of him, not his defining characteristic.

That is all this is. Whining and whoring for attention, trying to get a moment in the spotlight and trying to force the church to accept them as they seem to think taking a dick in the ass makes them special.
Dammit you're going to turn this thread into a flame war -_- Thanks dude.

Well, over here in America, the population is predominantly christian of some form or another. When most of your neighbors, bosses, taxi drivers (ok, maybe not them) belong to an institution that abhors your very existance....yeah, you might be a bit uppity.

And don't forget, our last president was a born-again, praise-be-to-jesus evangelical christian who hated gays and had Bob Roberts' number on speed-dial. Again, might make some folks a bit uppity.

Stright people need to shut the hell up about how "gays are allways bitching". They keep trying to shove their idea of how people should act down others throat.

Note: I'm not Homosexual, the above is me trying to point out the irony of such arguments as i am sure they will pop up in this thread. Hating a person for complaing they are hated is stupid in the extrem.

They also lack the legal statis/rights avalible to non-gay couples, mostly because of the voting power of one church or another.
That seems a legitimate grievance to me.

Sorry chap. Was not my intention. I just work in hospitality so am constantly surrounded by homosexuals who do nothing but ***** and moan and cry about shit like this and do try to force their sexuality down everyones throats. (no pun intended) So sadly it has left me with a no bullshit attitude towards them.
I do realise not all of them a like that but the ones who do campaign non stop are that type. All the others you never hear from as they are just going about their lives.
if you were denied rights given to just about every human being on the planet, just because you don't follow the rules of a religion you may not even be a part of, you'd be pretty pissed off as well. have some consideration.

I have been here for a while, I have had plenty of face palms at users of this site (and they have had at me).

Also, second post, that's stereotyping. I know gay people that I didn't even know where gay for ages. Tell you what, don't start a flame. If you have to, pass me my suit.

California, so it's kind of the topic at hand here. Was reading an article about how they want to add an amendment that says gays can't marry and it kind of invoked this thread.

Yeah it's alright. I do see what you're getting at and you actually did make a legitimate point, though possibly not in the most ...let's say polite, way. personally I found it more funny than inflammatory, but people here tend to get a bit touchy with that kind of stuff.

Just like people don't choose their sexual orientation or the people they fall in love with, you don't choose your faith. If you're christian and homosexual, you will definitely care if the religious institution of your faith doesn't want you to fully take part in it and if you have less right than any other believer or follower of that faith.

I think this is my biggest problem with gay people, too. There's a lot more that defines a person than just their sexuality. No need to bring it up in EVERY conversation.

Even the nice ones shoehorn it into conversations. At least, around here. I had a guy in a college class who I didn't really know at all tell me he was gay. I think he was having some kind of conversation in his head where all of a sudden everyone stopped talking to take a moment to congratulate him for being such a unique and beautiful snowflake.

Besides, in a country where the KKK is legal, what kind of sense does it make for gays to lobby that Christians HAVE to accept them? Why don't we get rid of the KKK FIRST, and then we can all talk? Or if the KKK are allowed to be morons (and they are, by our Bill of Rights), maybe some people need to shut up.

I mean, I don't care whether somebody is gay or not, but I have a big problem when they try to lobby government to get involved in bossing around private religious groups.

I guess I'm trying to say I agree with you.

I agree I mean well... they should be able to get married because there are tax benefits they shouldn't be banned from. But as far as I'm concerned I don't see why anyone would wanna be part of something that hates them.

Christians are as a group a horrible pot of disgusting ignorance and prejudice. I've never met one yet who doesn't love you to pieces as long as you are one of them and hate you with a passion if you aren't. IDK why you would ever wanna be part of that especially if you are gay and know first hand how much it hurts to be told every 5 minutes by some ignorant fuck-tard that you are going to hell.
