Well this may seem like a weird topic but it has been bothering me all my life.
Why do I have to hold or always touch things? I can't do anything without holding my belt or hands in my pocket, ect.

Can anyone explain this?

I find that I reach for my belt/pockets/wallet-inside-pocket/etc when I'm feeling self-conscious for whatever reason. It's probably just a natural reaction to being nervous.

I don't feel the need to do so when I'm just going about my regular life though.

I don't really know. Might not be because it happens everywhere I go, all the time. I'm also rarely nervous as well. Probably a habit I picked up but I would like to hear more opinions.

I'm very much the same, I don't like empty hands. When I'm at work I sit and twiddle my pen. Not because I'm bored and anxious or anything, It just feels weird if I'm nott

I find that I use my hands for everything in my life, even while talking. Other people do it too. One example would be when I cross my arms or shove them in my pockets to pass time or when they don't have anything to do.

It could be worse. I have to chew things :p
I don't mean "I chew things occasionally". This is something I have to be doing like every second. My nails are shorter than you could imagine, my pencils tend to be dead within half an hour of picking them up, bus tickets, analog sticks, clothes, even stuff like pens (which have, on more than one occasion, leaked in my mouth) plastics, and basically things I really shouldn't be chewing.
One time, after visiting the dentist, where I'd been given painkillers for a filling, I found that I could chew my gums. When the feeling came back I was in absolute agony

I have to be doing something with my hands constantly aswell... It's just a habit I picked up as a kid, I used to always have my hands in my pockets since it gave me a nice sense of securtiy as opposed to having my arms just dangling at my sides doing nothing of intrest.

I also went through a phase in which I chewed things, I got through countless pens, pen lids, pencils (Usually split lengthways meaning they were completely unsusable) and my jumper in middle school lost an entire sleeve. I stopped chewing things when I started to get sharp pains in my incisors when ever they touched something hard and then eventually they grew in a way that they cannot meet (They have a couple of centimeters between them at their closest point) so I cannot chew things easily.

I've stopped keeping my hands in my pockets now but I still need something to do with my hands because of my arms feeling lost otherwise (I've taken to crossing my arms or fiddling with pens/zippo's and drumming my fingers on any and every nearby surface)

Mine are more often than not on a desk or in my pockets. I even sleep with my hands in my pockets sometimes (i sleep fully clothed in the winter .-.), it's just what I do.

Freud would have a field day with you :p

All in all I think it might have to do with letting your mind wander while fondling something.

I find that when I am thinking I like to do something repetitive with my hands (that gets others annoyed), like constantly clicking a pen.

Not sure this is what you meant though.

PS: If your hand is at your belt, you always know where your hand and belt is, and that is reassuring.
