Cue ass-like/attempting to be smart Reply: You're basing this on Mass Effect alone? Go make some more comparisons. Ask this question when you have better results to support this.

Roll in sexist reply: Because women have too many emotions to express!

Fade out with personal response: Because women are more kickass than people give them credit for. They'll almost always get underestimated unless you know right off to respect them, otherwise you learn fast, or you just flat out die, get shot, get beat to a pulp, or are otherwise hurt, tortured or killed in a variety of astounding or completely painful and horrifying ways.

It would be my personal rule as an Evil Overlord to NEVER underestimate any woman who walks into my domain with a large sword, halberd or anything and uses them with enough skill to take down a large group of bandits, monsters (as attested by witnesses or messengers/scouts) or indeed my own men with a little, or indeed no effort at all. I wont have my men sitting in a long line of areas waiting to be killed, I'd get as many non-essential soldiers, assassins, bandits, whatever and send them her way.
Unfair, I know, but Heroes need seriously unfair measures to take down >_>..

It's simple. Shitty voice actors will offer to do it for peanuts.
"If you're good at something, never do it for free".

Same premise in reverse.

This is not the first time I've had to do this this week...

Male Shepard is male. Male Shepard's voice actor was bad. Therefore, men are bad actors.

Hitler had a mustache. Hitler was evil. Therefore, everyone with a mustache is evil.

Whenever I play Mass Effect there are always certain lines said by Male Shepard that make me roll my eyes and shake my head, and whenever I hear Female Shepard say anything I feel like the game just got more badass, and it's the same in most video games. The men play the part but it's never anything more than that, women bring it on home EVERY TIME.

Being a man, I tend to prefer playing the man. But why can't we have the same degree of acting as the ladies?
So you think Wrex would have been better if voiced by a woman?

What about Keith David, Lance Henricksen, Robin Atkin Downes, Brian Bloom and Dwight Schultz? Are they worse actors than women?

Have you played Mass Effect 2? Do you think Martin Sheen fails at acting compared to the woman who played Kelly Chambers and Spartan Harlot #1 in God of War?

IMDB describes Martin Sheen as "Multiple Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Martin Sheen is one of America's most celebrated, colorful, and accomplished actors. Moving flawlessly between artistic mediums, Sheen's acting range is breathtaking".

You should e-mail IMDB to tell them they've got it wrong because he fails at acting due to his gender.

Well they just need to get a good actor, being a man is no excuse for bad acting, if you learn it you can be just as good.

But I do think women have the edge among average people, because they do it so often, all the fake smiles, fake interest, fake niceness, faked emotions, fake orgasms,... an average woman can do it all(and most of them are scary good at it).

??

Honestly, I thought FemShep was a bit stiff in the acting department. MaleShep on the other hand was...well....OK they both sucked!
-_-

But then again Shepard is probably my least favorite character in the series, male or female. I don't like flawless heroes with all the emotional depth of a spoon.

boringgggg!

Your problem is Mass Effect.
it's writing just sucks in my opinion.

there are great male actors in gaming, and fewer good females in my opinion.

in movie's men and women equalize quite well.

Ive never been able to play a female shepherd the voice grates on me that much, as for the men vs women thing there are probably an equal % of each sex being good/bad in video games

For your example, i'd compare it more to the illusive man's voice acting (Martin Sheen) who is a real pro, just as Jennifer Hale (Female Shepard) is.

Sooo, "one male voice actor you don't like" equals "all male voice actors are bad"?

That makes sense.

Alright, let's do this. The actress for Other M butchers Samus without any shame - that means male actors are superior.

Contradiction!!!

I know everyone's said "Oh, Mass Effect is your example? No wonder", but it's really true. It's a shame for Mark Meer, because he's trying. I mean, EVERYONE will sound like shit compared to Jennifer Hale. She's a master.

What about those who enjoyed Male Shepards acting? I think Mark Meer did a pretty good job overall.

Even so, choosing one game/movie/TV show actor and making an assumtion about an entire gender based on that actor is a bit overblown

I vigorously oppose the idea presented in the OP. Obviously, one bad voice acting is a ridiculous premise to insist that men fail at acing. Seems like three pages of discussion has already brought plenty of examples to the contrary, so I'll instead mention another groanworthy male voice acting talent:

Matthew Perry in New Vegas.

That is all.
