Why do most men not like musicals?

I'm not male so I'm not sure if my opinion counts, but I like a good musical as long as the premise is not overly feminine and doesn't center entirely around a love story. I enjoyed Sweeney Todd, and even though I though Repo was a little over the top, I think it was still a creative enough story to be good. And on the topic of dark creepy musicals, the Nightmare Before Christmas was definitely my favourite movie as a kid.

Hairspray, however, was one of the most painful movies I've ever watched. The addition of John Travolta in a fatsuit did nothing to help the matter.

I usually don't like musicals simply because i don't like the music that's in it. Of course there are different musicals and different music in them, but as an over-all the music is what turns me off. Also i think it has something to do with the fact that there are very few explosions, car chases and gun fights in your average musical.

War of the Worlds was a damn good musical, as was Phantom of the Opera. I like these 2 a lot, but not all are good

Avenue Q is probably the best musical I've ever seen. Either way, it just goes down to personal preference.
