me and my friends last night after a brief run in with black ops and getting sick of it decided to put some mw2 up to the test. we went into a bare bones free for all to use the snipers again with room for two more players. they joined and instantly we saw head shots galore from them and heard the tactical insertions buzzing. we immediately questioned each other asking if people still needed to boost after the game being a year old and with hardly anyone playing it seeings how the new game was out. all i could guess is their going to be the Christmas noobs or just wanted to be the new kids on the block in mw2.. anyways we instantly stopped killing each other and focused fire on their asses until they were negative by at least 15 deaths.

..probably a few people do it for the laughs. But I think a lot of people cheat because they want to buff their stats. Know a few people who explained that they'd just boost their stats by cheating instead of doing it "legitimately" by boosting in a private match, and things like that. Because cheating was faster. And then they'd not cheat when playing their clan-matches... and everyone (except the randoms) were happy.

If I want to dick around on a single player game, then yes I will cheat.

Midas Magic in Oblivion: I'm going to fly to the highest point in the game and nuke the world around me just for shits and giggles.

The people that do all them multiplayer shenanigans just want to get the satisfaction of winning. And besides, that overwhelming show of power is really satisfying. The difference between multiplayer and single player seems to me that it is only whether you have morals or not.

Why do people steal crap?

I mean, i suppose you could make up some scenario where someone had no choice, but just as often it's just a shortcut.
Kudos for the avatar.

People enjoy the feeling of power over others. If no one can beat them, then they are more powerful.

To paraphrase Mr Burns:

Because God didn't give us the gift of superhuman reflexes or awesome skills.

So instead we use cheating, the gift Man gave himself.

Well depends what you define as cheating I don't know what the fuck people think glitching is nowadays on consoles as apparently glitches include various jumps in CoD. Getting to an normally inaccessible area is not that bad of a glitch if you didn't get shot on the way into that area you probably deserve some kills. Even at that you are fairly grounded and should be easy to kill from there.

I spec nade people in CoD who vorociously spawn kill by camping just outside of spawn so that the spawn does not switch. So I do it out of a twisted sense of justice. There are some people who cheat because they like to get big score then there are people who cheat because they like seeing people complain.
Cheating/glitching is doing stuff that one normally can't do in the game with just a controller (like a lag switch) or exploiting a bug or glitch like going through a wall that you shouldn't be able to and killing people from an unkillable position. If the game allows you to get to some place that's just real tricky to get to then that's fine. I remember in CoD4, there was a point where everyone thought it was so cool to go on various roofs of overgrown, that's not glitching and those people were easy to kill anyways. It's up to the developers to make sure the game doesn't have any cheap tactics and whatnot; cheap does not equal glitching.
Ok well thanks for clarifying that. I don't keep up with what console use for various terminology. Well I stopped trying after people thought some glitched lobbys where you were able to rank up were mods. That and mods only also include illegal pirate chips... I know not everyone on consoles is like this but I just haven't bother given how some people can have vastly different terminology from what the average is.

People cheat online because they have a needy personalty in real life (i like to call them attention whores lol). They need to feel like they are the best or to feel like everyone is paying attention to them, it's the same thing as people who go into a game just to cause trouble/be a douche.

Some people just care about winning a game, rather than playing a game. How they win is nowhere near as important to them compared to the act of winning. Personally I've never understood that mentality, but I guess there are people out there who just need an ego-boost, no matter how unfairly gained (and therefore meaningless) it is.
