Because it feels really cool to go in with two guns blazing.
You may want to work on your grammar, spelling and punctuation, by the way.

OT: because it's fuckin' awesome. And looks totally badass. That's rather obvious isn't it?
im not saying it doesnt look cool what im saying is how does it make the game better than it was with one gun
It makes the dual wielding character look cooler.
Or at least the developers or whoever made it so thinks. My previous post was sarcastic, I just forgot to state that.

I only found Dual-wielding awesome in one game. Advent Rising.

And that's because you could dual-wield rocket launchers.

Ah, the ineffible joy experienced when one is dual-wielding sawed-off double-barrelled shotguns in Durandal... carnage incarnate.

I can't explain why dual-wielding has such allure, sorry. It just feels cool doing it.

Francis disagrees with your assessment.

Addendum: [Ocelot] is way cooler than any pistol dual wielding pussy.

You just wait 'til MGS5. We'll see someone triple wielding rail cannons.

Just "meh" with guns. No point in doubling the power lil' pistols when you are much better off with an assault rifle anyway.

For swords and other blades it at least makes some sense, assuming you are both handed. Besides they did in fact fight with both hands back in the melee days, hitting and restraining the enemy with the free hand any change they got.

howabout using a sniper rifle, and your left hand hold a pistol taped under it like a vertical foregrip.

Duh. People wet 'emselves over dual wield cos of the noob combo, amirite?

However, if you don't play Halo, it does look damn cool. I would rather have a shotgun though. Or two shotguns! OK..dual wielding is cool.

What about GoldenEye 64? You could dual wield almost every gun in that game. I loved my dual RCP-90s (especially with Paintball mode).

I just dont see why it's so great to be holding 2 guns; but, hey, that's why I'm asking you guys.
Well, for a start, it looks awesome. Plus you have twice the firepower. Admittedly with some things it's just ridiculous.

However, I normally go for two handed. Dual wielding often comes with an accuracy penalty, so it's not my thing.
Accuracy penalty? Every wonder why people do one of two things when using an SMG or Pistol?
1. Stand sideways to their target and extend an arm
2. Use a one handed gun with both hands

It's because using one hand for a gun lowers your accuracy in two ways.
1. To use dual wielded guns properly you would fire 5x slower then if you used 1 weapon because of the time to reorient after recoil.
2. Using both eyes for aiming means your mind has to do 4x the work to aim both guns with any accuracy.
Not even to mention that he recoil would destroy any benefit of using two guns.

The ONLY reason it is popular is because it looks badass. But so does holding your gun ghetto style, and so does using a gun and katana. And all of those scenarios are worse off then the two hand hold.

Meh, I like rifles. Although, when playing D&D, one can base his character around dual wielding and i have to say that those characters shred the living fuck out of everything. With the monkey grip feat, one can even dual wield greatswords.

With practice dual wielding can be an effective combative form, but that's the thing... With Practice. Lots and Lots of practice. You will not get this overnight.

Still, though, it does have it's benefits. A good offense can sometimes also be an effective defence. Your attacks are coming twice as fast, which means your opponent has to work twice as hard to deflect your incoming blows and that offers greater chance to catch him off guard and finish him off. You trade the extra protection/precision for increased frequency in your strikes. They don't have to be perfectly placed so long as they still do their job.

Using a gun and a sword might be feasible but the gun itself would have to be puny. I'm talking the same size or smaller than the hand holding it. You need a good grip and that means a very thin clip. Five rounds per magazine maximum I'd say. Unless your carrying at least three of those suckers on your person at all times so you can reach for a new one every time a clip is depleted it isn't gonna happen.

What's more awesome than one of a thing? TWO of a thing! It's simple maths really. You start with the awesomeness level of say... a flaming sword, and add the awesomeness level of ANOTHER flaming sword, and you end up with more awesome than you started with. Easy.

But they did not dual wield swords. or any weapon. The ONLY cases ever in history of dual wielding melee weapons is asian traditional fighting (Not real fighting, but traditional) and the Norsemen when someone went berserk. And no, there IS NO SUCH THING AS A BERSERKER. Berserker was not a rank, it was a description of a state of pure violent rage someone attained during battle, wether by hyping themselves up before battle or chewing drugs, or just pure out rage. And even then what was usually dual wielded by such ragers was a spear (short spear) and their secondary weapon (Sword, mostly axe as that was common for men to have in those areas) and the berserker may have killed multiple men this way, but they almost always aquired fatal wounds as it is near impossible, even when ambi dexterous, to defend yourself with two weapons rather then 1 weapon, or 1 weapon and a shield.

100 x 1 = 100
100 x 2 = 200

Follow me here? If you have two then obviously you're twice as strong. On the other hand ahem;

MORE DAKKA!

But yeah, it looks bitchin'. Nothing says your badass like using two guns with efficiency... except using three, or if you're Bayonetta four.
