Its just the aesthetic factor, it looks cool! Really theres not much else there. I dont get why its included in MW 2 but whatever.
Me either, maybe they are trying to cram in more features

Look at the most recent version of the Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles, in one of the first seasons Leo gets the sword of Tengu(?) which shoots lightning and stuff. Personally I think he's more awesome dual wielding his normal katanas.

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but usually guns=masculine compensation.

"First, I'll get a BIG GUN. That'll make up for my little buddy down in my pants. If THAT doesn't impress people, I'll get ANOTHER GUN! That'll make everyone notice us, right little buddy?!"

"Little Buddy?"
*wiggle*

"That's better."

Well much like dual wielding weapons in the SCA (eschewing a shield is a ballsy move when sword fighting)...
Agreed.

It's fun to do from time to time, but you wouldn't catch me at Estrella trying it. That's just madness.

It looks cool i guess. but unless it's an rpg where your sacrificing defense for offense i really don't see a big deal. In that case it depends on the situation. But it's not always the way to go.

I think wielding two main hand weapons can be overkill, or at least if they are the same type. Hey if you can hold a wrench in one hand and a gun in the other, that's fine by me. (Play Dark Cloud 2.)

Still, it does look kinda cool if the animation and weapons are right.

for guns and swords dual wielding is pretty impractical I would prefer a one handed longsword and a shield or even with out I have that extra arm and for guns I would like my extra hand for grip and accuaracy
