Because some people play games to relax and blow some steam and when the griefers come they get frustrated/annoyed and explode with fury.

How can I describe what I think of griefers?

It's like entering a game of chess with someone who thinks knocking all your pieces off the board is a funny way to win. It isn't, it's stupid and immature, and ruins it for people who want to play more seriously.

I'm not saying games aren't mostly for fun, but I still feel a surge of hatred towards the guy who decides that gunning from below the map is a decent and fair way to play the game.

Here's a very simple explanation:

Humans do not all share the same sense of humour.
Thats exactly why I love most griefers. Yeah I get pissed sometimes too but its oftentimes so funny or innovative its worth it.
I'd like to hear a few examples of funny griefing, or some vid links, as I have never been griefed and am not sure exactly how annoying or funny it is.

What is an innovative way to grief?

I imagine teabagging was considered griefing back in the day?

Griefing is the gaming equivalent of egging someone's house or letting down their tyres. You might find it amusing, but for the person having to deal with it, it's annoying.

There. Don't you just love me more now?
No?
Really?
That's trolling. Griefing is where you go and find ways to mess up the game (usually multiplayer).

I can understand trolls. They're hate based. But griefing is funny sometimes.
Griefing is never funny for the person being griefed, or the other people in the game. The only people who get a kick out of it are the griefer and their friends. It's a disgustingly anti-social action that just ensures that games aren't fun at all.

To all griefers, if you want to be annoying, by all means, do it. But don't be coward and use gaming as medium, instead, do it right to my face. See how that works out when you're actually responsible for your actions, hmmm?
I had that once :D One of my mates kept killing me in Halo 2's co-op, so I punched him in the face and still wont play games with him :D

If I could, I'd do it to EVERY PERSON that did it to me. I just can't afford the air fare :(

Try using a med kit to hold people in place in Left 4 Dead while a tank knocks them off a cliff. I haven't tried it yet but it sounds hilarious.

I don't know since I've never encountered one (unless you count someone in couterstrike who blinds the entire team with flashbangs at the start of each round).

Standard martial arts rules. Everyone gets three warnings - anything after that is brought on themselves. And yes, punching someone who has been warned, after saying they won't do it again, three times, is better than griefing.

Griefing is being a **** "for the lulz". Which is, well, a **** thing to do.

Well as L4D is not a competitive game then that wouldn't piss me off, I would laugh!

Me and my buddies do that kind of shit to eachother all the time, but we never EVER do it to strangers online.

Why do people think they can react with violence if they've been insulted? Even the worst insult in the world is just a group of words. So they team killed you. Why would you try to react with anything other than team kill them (or join with them and try to take down all of the friendly NPCs)? An eye for an eye leaves the world blind, so I'm guessing a leg for an eye is much worse.
