Why do people hate on Zunes?

I have a 30 Gig Zune and love it. My music collection got really big, so I went with an iPod Classic.

I prefer both the zune software, and the zune portable device interface. I hate that damned scroll wheel. I guess I'm old school and I like to have a click.

I work in retail and someone asked me where the zune iPods were.... I had to hold back my simultaneous urge to laugh, and to strangle them.

The only problem that I have with my zune is NOT ENOUGH ACCESSORIES ON THE MARKET! iPod accessories flood the market, and there are very few dock stations, or things in general that work with the zune. Which is sad.

I just don't enjoy Microsoft products as much as I do Apple products. It has nothing to do with "geek chic" or whatever, I just find Apple products more intuitive.

Most third party iHomes work with zunes.
Also, Who could be so stupid as to ask for a "Zune iPod"??

One reason I like my Zune is because it doesn't have the "Please Rob Me Because I Have An Ipod" white earbuds.

I am currently rocking a hacked iphone so I lack the need for a Zune. But I had one before I defected to the formerly Apple product I have now.

All I use it for is a mobile and Ipod and it works great.

I think that it's just general Microsoft hate. One of my internet friends refuses to use any Microsoft hardware because of their RROD issues with the Xbox. And he thinks Zune's will have the same issue. Admittedly, I do prefer my iPod Touch, but that's because it's surprisingly easy to use. Apple have had great success with their iPod.

Microsoft really need to improve their reputation.

I have a zune, but am ditching it for a Ipod, mostly because it is suck a freaking pain in the ass to find movies and other stuff for. And the free digital copies Dvds have been coming with don't work on the zunes, but they will on ipods. Its not a bad device, I am just sick of messing with the damn thing.

Those people I knew IRL that say the Zune sucks also complained about the interface for the Creative Zen, claiming it wasn't intuitive. Most of them I also only remember as really dumb peers in high school. Because, you know, sliding your thumb up and down to navigate an up and down list isn't intuitive at all. Not at all like their almighty Click Wheel(tm).

Pretty much all of my local friends (including myself) actually PREFER the Zune to the iPod. All the features of the iPod, plus a radio (kinda meh, but hey), a bigger screen, and the thing holds your computer hostage to the slightly more intuitive (and less intrusive) Zune program as opposed to iTunes. Unless you're like me and just use Winamp. Interfaces with both, as well as numerous other MP3 players. Suckas.

Also I've yet to hear any horror stories about Zunes (or the Zune program) deleting all of your non-Marketplace songs from your computer. Unlike the numerous cases of "kill any MP3 not bought at iTunes" cases.

This I'm not too sure about (I had the 80GB model before it died from user abuse), but doesn't every Zune have video support to it, as opposed to only some iPods being video-compatible?

I have a Zune and i love it. It's so much better than an iPod. The Zune really is a better product, it's just to iPod is too big... Also, Barack Obama has a Zune so I think they should get him to do a commercial!

I have an 80gb Zune and I love it. I also owned an iPod for a while and it was nice, but it is all about the name now. Like getting Starbucks. If you get Starbucks, you are "cool" but if you get Seattle's Best Coffee, people mock. I think the Zune kills the iPod in all ways. The built in wireless. The song sharing. The Zune Pass. The integration with Xbox 360. The customization of the background. But the iPod is a part of popular culture, especially since it was featured in so many videos. People shit on you for it because they don't know the true potential of it.

i don't see anything wrong with the zune, it's about time people open up their eyes and stop buying ipods just because that's what's right in front of them.

i have a creative zen myself. it's only 32gb, but that's more than my music collection anyhow.
I have an Ipod because my Zen micro broke after Creative discontinued it, and it was the best the retailer had at the time. I plan on using it until my Ipod breaks and Apple decides to discontinue my warranty. So far, I'm at 4 years of use. 5 if you count the one that broke.
...your point being?
My point is not all people buy Ipods simply because it is an Ipod.

why do people insist on making "hate on" threads?
Why do people insist on making any thread? It's just as pointless as any other thread (or thread reply...hint hint)

My second gen Zune is a great piece of hardware. Most people that have handled mine love it too, because of the big screen, and the intuitive interface. The sound quality is awesome as well, despite not having an Equalizer.

Really, I could've gone with another iPod, or a Creative, etc, but the competitive price, and the features are what won me over.

In just the usage of an Ipod vs a Zune I've found that the Ipod is a nicer, more fluid system and seems to last longer than any Zune. I've found Zunes crash more often, have more hardware issues, and overheat alot more than Ipods but this is just MY opinion on what I've found in owning both. In the end I have thrown both out for a cheaper, low-level MP3 player that has worked wonderfully for alot longer than anything else. I only wanted to play my podcasts or music, so I don't need anything with a big screen. If I want to watch a movie, a trailer, music videos, ect. I'll do so on my laptop. So it really does depend on what you want to use it for.

The 12/31 Zune 30 crash was a result of TOSHIBA programming. The Zune 30 is based on Toshiba hardware, and it was one of the Toshiba drivers that had the bad programming.

I currently have a 8GB Zune that I use for podcasts, videos, and random music.

I've had an iPod nano, a Zune 80GB (sold it because I got another iRiver H360 with Rockbox), a Zune 4GB (sold it because I listen to too many podcasts to fit on the 4GB), and my current Zune 8GB.

I personally prefer the software of the Zune, although I wish the device firmware for music playback had more options.

As others have said, there's nothing WRONG with the Zune. People just hate on them. In fact, after the newest software/firmware was released, there were more than a few articles that said the Zune was a better DAP than the iPod.
