Call of Duty 3 was terrible, World at War was just the same as CoD4, but Black Ops is all right. Not amazing, but all right.

The whole 'we hate Treyarch' thing is amusing, given the number of people during MW2's reign loudly proclaiming that IW sucked and that they much preferred Treyarch because of World at War.

Now everyone wants IW back? I'm gonna hold back on commenting further, since I'm fairly sure I'd cross a line.

I meant that eventually that's what it will become. Sorry for not clarifying.
Ah, thank you.

I agree and disagree somewhat. With games, and not just video games, but games in general, there are certain things where, once you get it down perfect, it really makes no sense to change it. This applies mostly to mechanics aspects of the game. As it stands, the mechanics of the COD series are about as perfect as they're going to get. Changing up the controls or mechanics of the game beyond tweaks are not going to result in an improvement. It's a don't fix what isn't broken attitude to design, and it's not a bad way to go about things.

Where COD needs work is story and setting. Black Ops had a really poor story, and the COD series has a whole has a bad problem of working a setting to death. Now, they realize that no one is going to buy a COD game if they keep setting them in WW2, but there are only so many major conflicts in history without creating new ones. If they don't get innovative, we will end up with Call of Duty: Falklands War.

Yes, it's in the company's best interest, but that doesn't not make it total garbage.
Black Ops was not total garbage as you put it. It was not particularly innovative and the story was bad, but it wasn't a bad game. It may not be the best game ever, but there certainly was a lot of stuff released in 2010 that was worse than Black Ops:

Army of Two: The 40th Day
MAG
White Knight Chronicles
Dante's Inferno
Nier
Naughty Bear
Crackdown 2
Kane and Lynch 2
Ninty-Nine Nights 2

Just to name a few.
I actually love a few of the games that you listed off (MAG, NIER, and White Knight Chronicles), hell NIER was my 2010 game of the year and I found it to be an amazing game. On the topic at hand, people have no reason to hate Treyarch. You can't be mad at a developer who is told to just take what Infinity Ward did and improve/polish it up a bit. That's Activision's fault for just wanting to milk Call of Duty using any developers that they own to do it.

Cause CoD2 is better than CoD3 by miles. Nazi Zombies is boring fast.
The first is fact, the second is my view.
Both of those are subjective.
But still valid. It's a matter of opinion whether you like them or not, so it's matters of opinion that explains why.

OT: I prefer them to Infinity Ward. Granted, CoD 3 was not the best, but WaW gave me endless hours of fun back when I used to play it. It's still my go to WW2 game and I expect it will remain so for a good while. I also appreciate the Nazi Zombies mode that they brought and then built on, I thought that was cool.

I've seen a lot of posts saying things along the lines of "Treyarch sucks" or "IW is so much better than Treyarch" and I was wondering... Why? Treyarch have made great additions to Call of Duty (nazi zombies anyone?) but all they get is flax from the community.
(Disclaimer: All opinions that follows are obviously, very subjective.)

Infinity Ward made all the good CoD's; That is, CoD1, CoD2, and CoD4.

CoD3 was for consoles only. Fail 1.

Nazi zombies is one reason I didn't even look at CoD: WaW. Fail 2.

I keep hearing Black Ops sucks bumfluff from all my shooter buff friends, and I take their word on it, they know what's good and not.

That said, I no longer harbor much respect for IW either because of the MW2 MP ruination. I played the SP, found it okay-ish, but nowhere as good as CoD4.

1, 2 and 4 remains the good numbers for the CoD series for me. Treyarch never had respect from my side to begin with, and IW will have to get their shit back together before I buy another CoD from them.

I feel bad for Treyarch, rather. They are meant to make the bleh games to feed the community (And Bobby Kotick) while Infinity Ward makes a better, more polished game with a more experienced team so that Activision can buy a tyranosaurus once a year instead of only once every two.

Your opinion. Personally, I thought that Black Ops had a brilliant campaign -- unfortunately, it seems that people, like the Escapist editor who reviewed BlOps, aren't intelligent enough to understand the story.
I understood the story perfectly and I still thought it was retarded.
Just more of "America is da best!!!!! Fuck dem commies!"
Then you've obviously never studied the Cold War, because "Fuck dem commies" was pretty much exactly the political and social climate of the era.

Ever heard of McCarthyism? Americans were so wrought with mass hysteria of Communism that in their crazed mindset, they elected Joe McCarthy to the Senate simply because he promised to weed out Communists from government, from public offices, from jobs, and even from private day-to-day living of their lives: innocent Americans were terrorized because they held leftist political views.

So, in other words, your point of "herp derp America is best, fuck Communism" is exactly what the game intended. Covert operations like this happened all the time -- most of them we'll probably never even hear about -- because America was so damn scared of a Communist victory, of any Communist victory. Hence the Korean War (can't let the Communists take political control in South Korea!) and Vietnam (can't let the Communists take political control in Vietnam!), and the Bay of Pigs invasion (can't let the Communists keep political control in Cuba!).
Oh no I know al of that, I'm studying that era of american politics and society. But what annoys me is that it isn't just fuck them commies, it's the fact that all the commies are a bunch of evil-just-for-the-lulz types who twiddle their mustaches and cackle as them brave american boys come in save the peoples. In a way that it could never be suggested, not in a million years, that americans could be just as bad and were just as responsible for the awful things that happened over those years.
If that was highlighted, I would have applauded the game. But it doesn't. America is winrar. Commies bad just cause. End of story. The way they portrayed Castro made me vomit with rage.

Activision is like Henry VIII. Infinity Ward was the people's beloved Catherine of Aragon, only she suddenly and unceremoniously got ousted to be replaced by Treyarch's Anne Boleyn with whom Activision had been having a secret affair, and who suddenly decided to crown Treyarch Queen and give them the rights to a franchise that, despite complains, most people happen to care about on some level.

In short, people still feel like Infinity Ward was the rightful dev for the CoD series and MW in particular.

NOTE: there's no pole 'cause I can't think of any decent reasons.

Captcha: succeeded woratu
First its flack not flax

Off the grammar nazi bit.

I do not dislike Treyarch because they are a good developer in their own right but their games just generally suck. BlOps could have had a good story if it didn't RELY on the plot twist. I played through it after learning the plot twist but felt that there was nothing there to really keep me from not playing. The multiplayer of the CoD series is not n00b friendly and if you don't have a good team you are pretty much fucked. Except in S&D I have found out because I have taken out entire teams by myself. Pretty much the games are not really good and are broken in more ways than people tend to see. Yeah they are good mindless fun but it doesn't keep a lot of people happy who are on here.

Because they've made the worst games in the series. Nazi Zombies is fun and I'll be the first to admit that, but that doesn't make up for the poor excuses Call of Duty 3 and World at War were. Treyarch has also been known to just be the filler company, releasing a Call of Duty game that is guaranteed to be successful.

They're uninspired, lack talent and probably haven't come up with a single game idea that hasn't been handed to them by Activision. They're on the Publisher's leash.

Does that mean that as soon as Treyarch is unable to produce a boy, Bobby Kotick is going to decapitate the entire dev team?

Yes. That was indeed part of the implication. Once they produce a game Activision doesn't like or don't seem up to snuff, they'll all get the axe.

Fixed it for you, though. Make the best selling games ever and get fired because the higher ups don't like the look of you.

People hate Treyarch? I thought their games were hugely popular?

I've only played MW2, because I'm not much of an FPS fan, but the sheer popularity of it made me try it and see what all the fuss was about. It was OK - I liked the stealth sections =).

To put it bluntly: I don't see a reason for people to *hate* Treyarch. Sure, you might not like their games, but do they really deserve hatred? I guess I'm more in the neutral camp since I don't really play their stuff, but when I did it was an acceptably entertaining experience.
