if not everyone aggreed with me, i'd be fine. my point is that EVERYONE loves them and just ignores the plot holes and bland gameplay.
Does it really bother you so much that people like a game that you don't? I mean I enjoy it. Other people enjoy it. Why not let them?

so, i've been trying to figure htis out for a while about why people think the mass effect trilogy and dragon age 1 were such great games. whennever i think about them i think they have bad locations that don't feel as epic as they're trying to be made out, an impenetrable story with many, many plot holes, bad writing where alot of the background is in the pause menu rather than weaved into the story, akward conversation options and bland, boring gameplay.

i understand that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and if you enjoyed all of biowares games then good for you, but it seems EVERYONE thinks bioware is one of the greatest game makers of all time
I very much enjoyed Kotor but their newer games leave a lot to be desired IMO, DAO in particular was a bit of a steaming turd.

Why is bioware so popular? simple, they brought RPG to the masses, and those filthy abhorrent masses love them for it. Nevermind, apparently, that they've done terrible things to the genre in the process. Honestly, its getting to the point now where they ought to drop the pretence and just call their games romance simulators.

They are good with atmosphere. Gosh how awesome was the beginning of KOTOR II? It had that mysterious, alone feeling about it. I just replayed that part too.
Bioware didn't make kotor II obsidian did.

See I have this problem aswell.

KoToR/Baldurs gate series were completely brilliant and deserve all the recognition they can get.

But recent games like Mass Effect are good but thats it, nothing special at all or on anywhere near the level of previous Bioware RPGs hence why I don't understand why people like Bioware games so much and usually Bioware games tends to mean just Mass effect for most people, so really why people rave on about ME and so Bioware.

I think the developer is pretty hit and miss to be honest but one thing which is constant and is usually quite exceptional is the writing in the games. That for one appeals to me the most.

Because I have fun playing the ones I've played (KOTOR, Jade Empire, Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect 1 & 2). Not much more to it than that. BTW, this in Mass Effect 2:

is explained. Cerberus had a hand in building the first Normandy and they retained a copy of the plans for it. They then used those to create a slightly better version of it.

Obviously EVERYONE doesn't love them. I mean you don't? There, I've just picked a "plot hole" in your own argument!

Seriously though, I'm sure that not everybody enjoys them and, as someone who does enjoy Bioware games, that doesn't bother me at all. Personally, I like the attention to detail with character development that they've put in, the interesting mix of RTS/RPG gameplay and the storyline. So what? The gameplay experiences of other people shouldn't match your own perfectly.

If this is honestly how you act about everyone not agreeing with you, you're going to have a rough life =/

Has it occurred to you that this might say more about you than it does about everyone else?

Hmm, interesting stories, deep characters, interesting gameplay. compelling dialogue. Whereas the normal game takes maybe one or two of these elements to run with, Bioware takes all and runs with them.

Dude, I pretty much hate every bioware game since the original Mass effect (and some before) so you're not alone.

And i'm a long time RPG fan, so my opinion has some weight, for what its worth (not much).

Why do you feel the need to ask if you know that everyone is entitled to their own opinion? That's like asking why do people breathe air when people breathe air to live, anyway I like Bioware because they did what Sega couldn't:

A. Made a decent sonic game which took a new idea and was good (Unlike sega).
B. They said they would make every character useful and they did (Big the Cat had use which shocked me to no end).

Now if only they make the sequel since the end of the first one hinted at one.

Alternately, people like them despite the plot holes and gameplay issues because of things like the writing and the production values.

#1. Not everyone enjoyed them. I see plenty of people saying they downright hated them
#2. No examples, no credit.
#3. I'll give you points on SOME of the conversation options being awkward.

I actually think the plot of Mass Effect, including the lore and the backstory of many of the characters is actually very deep and has some interesting ideas behind it. I love Drew Karpyshyn's writing so maybe that biases me a tad. The First Contact War and Humanity's quick rise on the galactic scale and how it bothers other races so much is a pretty interesting concept. However, it is all secondary knowledge to the main plotline. The things that people really need to know are presented to them in the dialogue or through how the story unfolds. Even things such as the First Contact War that I mentioned before are learned of through conversation.

Dragon Age has some growing to do but the universe that Bioware has built has an incredibly interesting take on magic and how those who use it should be treated. Most games you have some mage with all this power and they just run around without anyone saying a word. Not in Dragon Age. The whole idea of Mages being a danger to those around them, and the fact that the measures being taken to keep them safe from harm, as well as harming others, is filled with moral grey's the likes of which I really have not seen.

As for characters, Bioware is perhaps one of the greatest developers out there for characterization. Even the characters that aren't their best have interesting character flaws and traits that make them seem like real people (even if their aliens.) Garrus from Mass Effect is one of my favourites. When you first meet him, he is trying to help you, but he also resents the amount of restrictions placed on him by Citadel Security. When he comes along with you he enjoys the time he spends on the mission because he enjoys being free of the Citadel's red tape. In Mass Effect 2 we learn that the same personality he has may have gotten a dozen men killed. He learns his mistake....and keeps on making it. He's a person (maybe not human, but close with that line of thinking...) and he is prone to mistakes. He is loyal and will fight to the end for anything he believes in, but he's also a bit of a renegade.

Bioware has been making games for a longtime, they had one of the biggest plot twists in a story I had ever seen in Knights of the Old Republic, they've made some of the most recognizable characters in gaming history like Minsc from Baulders Gate ("Go for the eyes Boo!") and HK-47 from KoToR and Garrus from Mass Effect.

I love Bioware and just about every game they've made, but I love them for a reason. Not everyone feels the same way, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. We can all enjoy different games, there's thousands upon thousands to choose from after all!

Also, Baldur's Gate. All arguments against that statement are automatically invalid.
Except maybe this one: Black isle.
Co-publisher != developer. Fail.
I stand corrected, baldurs gate is indeed a bioware game.

Whats more I love baldurs gate... its just a shame they haven't made anything even remotely as good since kotor.

Does it really matter man, why do you have a problem with people loving something so much? Does it make you sick to your core knowing people like Bioware. I mean with that I should make a topic about why people love Halo so much since I think it's a crap game that set a really stupid standard with trends in gaming (Every FPS wants to be like Halo now, but I'm not sitting here asking "Why do people love it" because I know why: People love it.

I also don't get why people love Nintendo since they are known to re-release old games or not try much new (I'm hoping the 3DS fixes that), or not give games that fans wants (Mother 3 is the prime example). And the 3DS's biggest killer app is a 10-ish year old game they are selling for 40 bucks. Again I'm not asking people why they love it cause I understand why, even though they are known to re-use ideas it's still fun games.

You just need to get over yourself and play games you love, I don't get why people just can't accept people love a certain game Company and just leave it at that.
