Why do people like dubstep?

Well, it has it's moments. Personally, my favorite part is when it goes "Wub wub wub wub wub wub wub."

In all seriousness, though, it's really not THAT bad. Sure, it's never going to hold precedence over my Classic Rock collection in my car's glove compartment, but after sloshing through the more prevalent "shit" (i.e. the little tarts who think that taking a popular song and drowning out the parts we like with an obnoxious wub wub wub will make them the next best thing on the club scene) ones on YouTube, I actually came across a few that not only showed restraint on the wobble bass, but also gave it enough interesting variations to actually keep me entertained. And I'm sure everything sounds much more magical when you're on 3 hits of extasy.

My inexperience with dubstep might betray me, but personally I found the songs by Mt Eden and Nero to be the better examples of the genre.

The very fact that there may be "good" examples amidst the "shit" means that we can't simply dismiss the entire genre as "not music". Rather, we should focus our frustration on said tarts who on the side probably smoke at our favorite movie theaters, talk loudly on their cell phones at our favorite restaurants, and then go home to mangle our favorite songs when they try to lip sync to it in front of their webcams.

Besides, it actually works surprisingly well as an accompaniment to performance artists.

Yea, people take drugs to appreciate dubstep.

Noone has ever taken drugs to appreciate a proper genre of music like rock.
You know, there's whole genres of rock for which this is untrue.

Hell, ask a Jerry Garcia fan.

Can we stop having these kinds of threads, please? I don't even like Dubstep, which makes it even more unfortunate that this one is the straw that broke the camel's back for me. People like stuff and everything is always going to have haters. As unmusical as it is, Dubstep still gets made with a degree of professionalism so it's going to have people who like it. Their liking it and your hating it is just the end result of a probability chart. Get over it.
While I agree with the pointlessness of "I don't like it, so you're stupid" threads, the openning post really just seems to want more information. Give him/her/it a pass, will ya? ;o)

OT:
As always in music, there is good stuff, there is bad stuff and the really horrible.
The problem is finding the good stuff. That hasn't been made easier by the trend musical skill has taken in the last few decades.
Can't sing? That's what rap&sprechgesang is for.
Can't play? That's what music programms are for.
Can't compose? That's what random sample juggling is for.
Can't get famous? That's what the internet is for.

Even if there are a lot of great dubstep makers out there, fabricating tons of great tracks; they still get drowned in the flood of "i canz 2". Really, all you need today is time with a more or less free sound programm.

What I've heard now and so far of Skrillex, there is a serious issue of just putting sound bites in to have done something.
The beauty of the AC:Revelations trailer track is its restraint.
Given, it may have been just the timeing with me on that track, as at a time I got bombarded everywhere with the noisefest that was gaga's born this way.

It's the next step in the evolution of stupid people, first the movies that's simply about special effects, explosions and so on, completely free of smart story and whatnot, then, it hit the games, casual motion controls and automatic assist stuff that finishes the game for you, and now it's really hittin the fan in music. Simply a beat, or rythm, something like that, no intelligent writing, meaning or enjoyable melody, only sound more or less.

I'm still wating for these people to evolve into defenceless blobs, then it will be easy to get rid of them. And then finally I will get to see a trailer that isn't full of their "music". Seriously, who decided that the thing Assassins Creed lacks, is dubstep?
for.....fuck.....sake

just because somone can enjoy somthing you deem to be "less of quality" does not automatically make them a brainless dumbass...I can enjoy dubstep, I can also enjoy other types of music, (and BTW everyone has been saying this about pop-music and other popular mass apeal stuff for ageis, its nothing new)

am I saying "OMG dubstep is the best type of music EVAR!!!"? no, I enjoy it when Im in the mood for it, it may seem incomprehensible to somone with (obviously) suprior taste in music, but for some reason alot of people...both stupid and smart do

just like as much as I hate twilight I'm not about to assume everyone who likes it is a completle dumbass

Well it's all a matter of taste. For example I don't like dubstep usually but I am quite fond of xKore:

It is great relaxing music. I used to hate it, but then I tried listening to it when i was anxious.

Granted, that is because I mostly listen to EDM, which has a high tempo most of the time. Especially Raggacore, which is my favorite.

Maybe that is because the only artist I listen to is Dave Remmler. Also know as Renard Queenston. He is basiclly a god of EDM, so maybe it is just the artist I like and not Dubstep itself
EDIT:

It depends on the dub we are talking about. If you mean Skrillex (which I hate with a passion of a thousand burning suns), Modestep, Nero, Mt Eden, and the more Mainstream UKF stuff, not really.

If you mean stuff like Skream, Trolley snatcha, Sbtrkt, and all of the old-skool British Dubbers (which is the best kind of dubstep) then yeah. That stuff is like gold dust.

I do however prefer D&B, and Trip hop to Dubstep though.

One of the newest tracks from BT is also pretty awesome btw. It's not Dubsteb, but Electrodub (which isn't the same, but it's still fucking awesome). Armin posted it via. Armadamusic and i was instantly in love!

[Fast Forward to 3:00 if you don't like slow intros. This track pwnz]

The first song posted by Skrillex was just horrible, music has a rhythm. That was not music.
The song Syndicate however did have a good rhythm and was not bad. Guess which of the two is played on the radio though?

We listen to a lot of dubstep at work. My chef loves it, but the rest of us like hard trace. Dubstep sounds too samey and robot-sex noises can be annoying as shit. But it keeps us working fast...

It's this thing called personal taste people.
No matter how music is made, you get shit of all genres. You get shit dubstep just as you get shit rock. You get shit techno and shit country-folk music.
You also get good of all these things, but at the end of the day, some people will love what others hate and vice verca.
No amount of elitism will change this.

I think the real question is... Why shouldn't people like dubstep? It's all down to preference, really. (I'm not a fan of it myself, but I don't go around and ask people why they like this and that.)

I dont like R&B, hiphop, Trance, Rave, House or nothing like that. I use to like Metal heaps (probably a resemblance in heavy noises there) but now I am more softer there.

But I love Dubstep, well specific kinds. I personally enjoy ones that are less filthy orientated and offers more of a tune. I know people would be throwing all the songs they think are awesome but ill just be one of them too.

This actually has little tune, probably because it lacks consistency. But I love it.

Because.. It appeals to their tastes? I dunno, why do you like the things you do?

You find it amusing or otherwise interesting, there really isn't much I can say beyond that..

I have a very eclectic musical taste that ranges from screaming metal to sonatas and I still like some dubstep.

It's all down to personal taste, really.

Just throwing this out there, but maybe people enjoy the way it sounds?

Doesn't seem so hard to understand really.

You mean people enjoy something...THAT YOU DON'T LIKE?!
The horror! The unspeakable horror! Hide your children and lock the doors for surely the end of civilization is in sight!
People like things because they set off triggers in their brain that make them happy. Dubstep sets off their triggers, it doesn't set off yours.
What's your favorite food? There's someone in the world that hates that food. No matter how hard you try neither of you will ever be able to convince the other that they are right, so best to just enjoy what you like and not seek out what you don't.

While I'm not a dubstep enthusiast, I still find some tunes really nice. Palademon posted a remix of Lost Woods that I really liked and the remixes I've heard from some of Metric's tunes have been brilliant. :)
