People like dubstep because it's beat is very primal. It's like why people like drums. It's just that primal instinct to hit something. Dubstep uses that primal urge and turns it into something to be played in a club. Ironically most people who like dubstep also like metal and visa visa in my experiences. The two genres both have that primal beat that leads to moshing and thats why people like it as far as i can see.

I like it but it's actually mentally bad for you. There is enough bass so that it starts agitating the listener.
But the Inspector Gadget by Chrispy one is REALLY good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ga6jM4yRyHw

The music sucks and it will go away very soon. Hate this kind of crap with a passion and its not music. Everybody knows that this crap is just club music. Go out and dance to this garbage while getting very drunk. You go home with some random person and and hate yourself in the morning. Very much like to think this stuff plays in hell when you first enter.
Fun fact: Jazz music originally started out as music played in strip clubs and brothels. People would go out and watch strippers whilst listening to it and getting very drunk before sleeping with random prostitues that night, though I'm guessing you don't hate jazz as much as what you have written for dubstep.

People have described every genre before as 'not being music'. This happened when jazz became popular, when rock became popular, when punk became popular, when metal became popular... you get the idea.

In other words, as much as I hate using image macros, this [http://ben.kirman.org/wp-content/uploads/Stop-liking-what-I-dont-like.jpg] is rather appropriate.

Particularly 32 seconds in. If you're on a time crunch, I'll just transcribe it for you.

Old Coot: You have technicians here making noise, no one is a musician, they're not artists because nobody can play the guitar.

Yeah, that's what you sound like.

OT: Because it sounds good to me. It may not to you, but that doesn't mean you have to be a dick about it and shove your opinion in every little nook and cranny you can fit it in. I respect that you dislike it, but I do not respect your bashing of it in your post, OP.

I thought I'd hate this... "Dubstep" thing when I first started hearing the term. Then I listened to some and found I really didn't.

Haven't listened to much, but I find it surprisingly agreeable sometimes. That Reptile song for instance.

Reminds me a bit of acid house and the kind of music that was popular in the early 90s. And game music of course to an extent.

when people refer to dubstep as ''music'', i am personally offended as a musician. there is no talent or artistry involved. if you search on youtube ''how to make dubstep'', the first video will show you how in under 5 minutes. its really that easy to be a DJ, if you have ever owned an Ipod your basically there. in my country we have a name for people that live for dubstep and are out at clubs every-night, picking up chiiiicks and generally living life to the MAX-treme...

It's 90% horrible. There are some very good songs though.

If you ignore the stupid (yet amusing) lyrics.
This is just pure awesome.

Ok really its simple.

People like it because it taps into elemental sounds that help to enhance certain drug induced experiences. Its gaining in popularity from what Ive seen because its filling the void that was left in the drop off of popularity in industrial/metal from the late 90s early ks especially where its majorly being perpetuated in strip clubs (at least what ive seen in the US)where that atypical bpm rhythm is needed.

Peoples tastes are subjective. Different people will like the same things for different reasons. But honestly more than anything else, it helps fill a void by creating a dancable music that is not based purely on Rap/Hip Hop aesthetics.

Don't be so fast as to dismiss a genre of music, and calling everyone that listens to it a sad twat really bolsters your point don't it?

all I could find were videos that had nothing in them but three or four minutes of beeping and loud bass.
If you think of any genre in such simple terms it sounds crap: metal is just distorted guitars and notewanking solos, jazz is just making up trumpet as you go along, folk is just whiney guys with acoustic guitars, punk is just whiney guys with distorted guitars.

Some of it can be really atmospheric as well, Burial is simply amazing, completely unlike anything you will hear at your average club:

In other news, someone I know once described a dubstep song by saying "its so dirty its like fingering your sister only to find your dads wedding ring"

Eloquently put. Very true. Quoted for truth. The things that have been said about every type of music when it rolled around... even classical masterpieces have had their damning critiques back in their days.
