Personal taste is all I can.

I do enjoy dubstep myself. For me, there's something euphoric about it when you listen to it the right way; with massive speakers turn up to the ear-raping side of the spectrum.

The music sucks and it will go away very soon. Hate this kind of crap with a passion and its not music. Everybody knows that this crap is just club music. Go out and dance to this garbage while getting very drunk. You go home with some random person and and hate yourself in the morning. Very much like to think this stuff plays in hell when you first enter.

And what do you listen to that makes you the final say on what is and is not music? Simply because you don't like the genre doesn't make it any less music than whatever you listen to, get over yourself.

I love dubstep, it's the dirty bass lines, the epic drops and the schizophrenic tunes all mashed together to make something that sounds awesome.

To answer your questions:
(1) Dubstep has been thrown into the "mainstream" recently, like a natural progression from drum and bass and dance songs that have dominated the charts.
(2) I've always likened dubstep to fan fiction. You have to soft through a tonne of shit until you find something good, and it is always worth it.
(3) [see: (1)]

Because it has a powerful beat.

Seriously.

Skrillex has some decent stuff, but after hearing the epic travesty that was "Windowlicker Dubstep", I'm filled with nothing but passive-aggressive hatred for the genre as a whole.

Even if someone tries to defend it as "syncopated", my classical ear says that you DON'T REMIX SOMETHING AT 1.4 THE NORMAL SPEED, DAMMIT!

^^ I laughed out loud.

OT: Most dubstep sucks (I just can't get into Skrillex, bleh) but I have a few songs. I mostly like it when the bass is ridiculous.

ex. August by UKF, Sierra Leone and Prodigy: Omen both by Mt. Eden and Ghosts N Stuff by Deadmau5

You owe me $157 for all the brain cells you just destroyed by linking that... thing.

I mean really, I thought Katy Perry was already as bad as she could possibly be by herself, but someone found a way to make her music even less appealing.

Well, Since I really don't like it when people ask the same question about metal (assuming "metal" is 1 gerne and then proceedes to dig up some Darkthrone and thinking that's the industry standard) I'm hard pressed not to judge this the same way most would judge my music.

But, Sorry, I don't see the appeal, at all, I don't listen to techno, haven't done it of free will since the 90's, but to me, this sounds the same as any other techno/hardstyle whatever it's called, and I don't see the point of it, I don't see the appeal of it.

I like dubsteb, but then again I listen to almost everything.
I have newer understood some peoples need to stick to only one genre.

Why do people like Tim Burton? Twilight? Or Harry Potter? Rock n Roll? Metal? Screamo? The Matrix? Lord of the Rings? Batman? Superman? Iron Man? Romantic Comedies? The Scary Movie Franchise? Comic Books? Novels? Video Games? The Simpson?

I think they like it because they can. If you need true reason behind it, I doubt there is any. Most people I've asked why they like something they usually respond "Because it's awesome" to which I ask why it's awesome to which they respond "I don't know, it just. Is."

Right, ok people several very large misconceptions about dubstep in this thread, I hope to alleviate you people from your irritating but understandable ignorance

1. Dubstep is a clearly defined genre with limits that people understand. Dubstep is not the equivalent of disco it is far more complex than that, (not because its superior just because its broader). Most producers coundnt define "dubstep" you asked them to. Case in point, ever heard any jazz dubstep?
IKSA said:
Its disco for kids these days it will go away soon enough.

2. Dubstep is easy and requires not skill
Alphonse_Lamperouge said:
there is no talent or artistry involved.
This is an understandable viewpoint. I am a musician and play several instruments but I ALSO produce tracks of my own; it is not simple. Listen to anything really well done (skrillex, benga, flux pavilion) and you can bet that took weeks to perfect, not to mention the skills you need which takes months, longer if you use more than one type of software.

3. It is just "noise"
bahumat42 said:
its purposeless noise,
. Complete wank, listen to the track above, or pretty much anything else, although even that shouldnt be necessary.
Style: Bass / Experimental/Contemporary Jazz

from that youtube page. Don't blame us that its badly defined. Id of been quite happy with that song regardless of its electronic additions is pretty much the crux of my argument, it adds very little. But feel free to berate people for having better taste.
for having better taste? all that I can say is : how very pretentious of you.

I'm not sure if I like Dubstep in itself. I just love the sound of Transformers having sex whole their voice processors glitch all over the place, in a well thought out symphony of circuits exploding.

But this is coming from someone who is:
tired of metal, but can't stop the habit,
finds any kind of rock lacking badassery most of the time,
knows little about the whole electronic scene,
doesn't 'get' jazz,
sometimes puts on classical music because most works we now today have already been filtered out most of the crap,
doesn't do well with the urban/hip-hop/rap etc crowd
and still listens to the radio...

So I don't know how serious you should take my comment. Maybe I should just go to bed.

I don't listen to Dubstep because personally I think it is an abomination that deserves to be purged from this world... but some people apparently think it is the greatest thing ever. I have noticed a trend though... the people that openly like Dubstep seem to be Douchebags. You know the kind of person who gets hammered every night, cranks their bass up, and plays their music so that people two blocks away can here it. Apparently having music permanently damage your eardrums makes it better or something.

Because I like my music to go WUB WUB WUB WUB.
Honestly, it's fun to listen to. The good stuff anyway, like Scrillex and Alex S.

why do people like x?
because they do. everything going further than that is an attempt doomed to fail due to insufficient knowledge of the brain.

what is it about all that "boohoo, i don't like x, just how dare others who aren't as awesome as i am like it?"

oh and, daring to call one or the other post that said dancing to dubstep is impossible a lie:
one can dance to dubstep quite well. it requires some practice though, and thus might not be suited for lazy Joe Average ;)

burial.

also, anybody who is of the opinion that it's "not music" or terrible as a whole should get their head checked. it's called you not liking it... it's abrasive, and purposefully so. I think a lot of it is pretty bad, because the masculine who-can-make-the-nastiest-sounding-beat fad has had a pretty negative trend. but the elements that we use to determine what is and isn't dubstep... none of those elements are bad. actually, I love seeing strange new sounds being accepted into music. I like skrillex and wouldn't call most of it dubstep, though clearly the influence is huge. his melodies are usually spot-on. If you hate anything remotely 'dubstep' but have only listened to one type of it, you should really get some perspective. I used to talk bad about it too, but all of my reasons were really narrow-sighted.

See what I don't get is how it's "fun" to listen to
Its just fake sound effects and all sounds the same >:c
just wubwubwubwubwub,
Also a large amount of the fans I know are really arrogant with it (lolol how hypocritical) and they always bang on about the "Drop" okay fair enough having a favourite part of a song but its EXACTLY the same the song completely changes and wubuwub is replaced with........Wub..........Wub.........Wub. needless to say...I detest it.

/Rant over.

P.s Im not this much of a dick in real life <3
