For more melodic voices try symphonic metal such as Nightwish or Within Temptation. But really, claiming every band has vocals like that is just stereotyping.

Personally I like that the melodies are instrument based, while the vocals are rythm based instead of the other way around. Oh, and I don't know if anyone's recommended Caninus yet so here they are.

And if you don't like low growling pitbull sounds here's Hatebeak

Metal is something that paints pictures in my head more than, say, regular rock or rap. This is why I actually LIKE bands like Cannibal Corpse. They seem (at least to me) to tell better stories than other genres, things that I can imagine in my head thus making it more interesting than that stereotypical Pop love song.

Also it makes people stare at me weird when I'm playing it in my car. It's worth listening to just for that

It really gets your heart beating. The guitar riffs and shit of that nature (Don't play guitar, so not a big expert) are very fast and complex, and keep you interested in the song, whilst the shouty vocals put you in the right mood for this sort of music (People complain about how metal vocals is "JUS SHOUTIN!11!!1!" when it just wouldn't complement the tone of the music, and wouldn't sound nearly as badass with a pussy like Clay Aiken in the vocals).

It's simply just very exciting music, when done right (Like Crank). When done wrong, it's verbal diarrhea and incomprehensible guitar (Like Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen).

I honestly don't know. I don't even know why I like the music I like, which isn't even Metal. It just sounds good to me.

because its not fun to headbang and well get destructive to any other kind of music
(oh and i like to listen to all kinds of music just metal is one of my favorites)
Personally I find I can headbang to Techno fine, just so long as it's the heavy stuff. Although I'm not really much of a headbanging person, if that makes any sense...

for some of it, it just gets the blood pumping, adrenaline rushing, and it's straight fun. and i for one like the voices. it's really a matter of taste, and hard to describe. other songs, the meanings. some are about war, death, pain, all different stuff. metal in itself creates an entire new genre in music and is so massive that you could less for like a week straight and not even scratch the surface of this genre. there's so much room and variety, but most people just think of growling and heavy guitars, and while that's part of it, there's so much more to it. it's complex

metal is a term that has no meaning anymore. The day that

and

were classified in the same genre is the day that genre died.

In all honesty, I'm a total metalhead but I hate most metal. On this board, I have had an argument with someone about whether or not the lyrical content of metal music was "99% about love and relationships". Being a long time thrash metal addict, I literally was clueless as to where he was coming from. Subsequent posts revealed to me that he was considering system of a down and other bands that I would never classify as "metal", metal. To put it concisely, over the years, literally dozens of sub-genres of metal have been tacked on to the genre; many of them hardly share any similarities other than "haz loud geetar".

scientifically speaking the rapid beats of metal increase heart rate. more blood flowing = more thought energy etc (this is why metal fans occasionally get negative sterotypes like the uber pumped shirtlless guy screaming gibberish) no offense every music has it's sterotype. and personally i listen to little of everything just to know the pure sound of it power metal ranking pretty huge up on my personal list
