I get in that situation where people ask me 'Trezu what did you do on the weekend'? and i would say 'oh i Watched LOTR and Read some Books and played some Video Games, I was having a real lazy week lol'. then they seem to talk down to me about everyday stuff.

But i just never understood that. But Apparently from other people they say it happens to them too when they bring it up. But i have no understanding of why?

Why are we looked Down Upon?
Should we just Not talk about Games?
Lets say Julia Gillard our Prime Minister, said that she plays Call Of Duty would you take her less seriously as a Prime Minister?

Hell i would Vote for her if she played video games i want to shoot the Prime Minister in Killzone what can i say. But Sometimes a Video Game can open people's eyes its happened.

I have never been looked down on for playing games. Not even tabletop dungeons and dragons. I have no experience relating to this topic.

For playing games, no; it'd boost my opinion...for playing Cod is a different matter....

If people can make any number deranged claims (i.e. White socks are inherently gay, being a nerd means you have to be a virgin, men have to love cars) then it shouldn't be surprising that the othher crap is there.

EDIT: captcha plemov movie... I kind of want to write a script just to call it that.

It's partly because games are still considered to be a child's toy in society. You can see this by looking at situations like Mass Effects "sex scenes", i.e. things considered controversial in video games that would make it into movies of an equal age rating without anyone even noticing. This appears to be mainly due to the fact that, when they we're first invented games were a child's toy. This has changed drastically since then, but the rest of society hasn't quite caught up. Hopefully change will come soon, like when someone tells the ACB to stop being dictatorial censors and give us an R18 rating (not that they actually censor much, they seem to have gotten lazy from dealing with the massive waves of hatred we've been sending them). I'm sure society will catch up eventually, and then we can lock hands and live in harmony whilst having fun simulating each-others murder.

its stupid really, but gamings a habit, it provides us with forgetting who we are and what we are going through at the time. so its kind of like a drug.

not only that but a more logical reason is 'games are for kids' in most peoples eyes.

BLATANT LIES!!!
Seriously, EverQuest is where it's at.

NOTE: Smearyllama does not partake in, or endorse, the use of EverQuest.

OT: Because they need a way to feel better about themselves, and the easiest way to do that is to make everyone worse.

I actually haven't really met anyone like that.
While some people I know think games are a waste of time, they usually aren't rude in stating it.

Because they're dickheads, who can't understand why anyone would want to sit around having fun... sorry, I mean "simulating murder, rape and illegal activities".

I look down on Gamers.
True story.

Loads of the ones I know are immature little fuckheads who need to learn to shut up. Or at least lower their voices by several decibels.

I can hear them talking about Call of Duty from across a large room.
Hell, I once observed one of them telling his mate how awesome Dragon Age was by going through every major plot point and decision, my only thought was 'If that was me, I'd punch him.'

Point: Some people earn being looked down on, not solely because of their hobby, but because they're some shouting man-child.

The same reasons mostly people look down on anything. They don't know about games, they aren't into games and don't understand games or gamers, so that marks them as 'others'. And it's human nature to isolate, belittle and put down or drive away anything that is Other and not Me or Us.

Also games are thought of as a child's diversion because of their origins not so long ago. Teens, post teens and adults who are still playing 'kids games' are thought of as not having grown up properly, therefore not to be really trusted. Much the same as someone who is into dolls or legos or any other toy as an adult... Some will still look down on those things as 'stuff only kids do'.

And finally, the media and 'official pundits' paint us as all sorts of horrible and possibly dangerous. We're exposing children to extreme violence (in those games intended strictly for adults and not children), or the very act of playing games means that eventually we will become desensitized, inhuman killers and rapists. A lot of these people put forth that not only could we, but it's a forgone conclusion that anybody who plays games will become a violent threat eventually. And they will make up all sorts of fake links to 'prove' what they say.

Nope, it's sad but it doesn't surprise me that people look down on us who aren't gamers. They don't understand and are told lies about us all the time, from people they think they can trust.

A question that interest me more is why are gamers so hung up on people looking down at them its always gonna happen but it doesn't make my life any worse if they think less of me because I play games its their problem not mine.
