I think it depends. If the person has actually played/seen/etc the thing in question and admits they didn't like it, it's an alright post in my opinion because they do know what they're talking about. Granted they shouldn't just post 'that sux lol' or something along those lines.

People have never played the game shouldn't post an opinion unless they admit they haven't played it and can't be sure, or are asking other's opinions. Post like 'I think Super Giant Robot Movie 5 looks fairly stupid from what I've seen. The characters seem like unoriginal stereotypes and the action looks lackluster at best' or 'I haven't played Red Second 392: The Beginning Of The End Of The Beginning, but it looks interesting. Is it any good?' would both be acceptable in my mind.

Attention is a potential factor as well. The fact that some wants to stand out, and intend to gain recognition for it, is in the human nature. The same reason, why skyscrapers must be higher than the neighboring construction.

Posting on this thread will totally get my post count up. I am not in any way interested in this topic.

The usual reasons are to increase post counts, or to do some low level trolling. Very rarely they'll post looking for an explanation as to why others like a game.

Because everybody's opinion is equally important.

...

Pfff, I can't keep a straight face while saying that!

To increase their post count for "cred."
This is true. It's been scientifically proven that the higher your post count the bigger you penis.
I hope one post isn't one inch! furburt, hub, sassafrass (etc) would be like scarecrows.

On topic. Why am I posting in this thread, I have no interest in why people post on games and topics that don't interest them.

Seriously though, it's 'cos they have an opinion on it and are bored so they voice it. If that didn't happen it would be full of people saying "oh, how I love X and dislike Y", that isn't a discussion, it's not even a conversation.

I guess it's often an overwhelming desire for attention and/or trying to inflate their post count.

I have no idea, and I don't much care, either. I could decide to help flesh out the conversation, here, but I won't.

It annoys me, but what I hate even more are the people who post that "vs. threads are looked down upon". Versus threads are looked down upon by some people, and they aren't against the rules, so STFU already. If you don't like the subject of a thread, but it isn't against the rules, don't post in that thread and if it is against the rules just report it and don't post in that thread.

It's just like the idiots that post in troll threads with stupid comments like "obvious troll is obvious" or some shit and the thread just keeps getting bumped. They don't actually care about stopping the troll, they just want to make themselves look good in comparison.

I have no idea. The human mind can be a weird place at times, so the workings of their mind when they think they want to post on the topic even when they know nothing about it must be truly strange.

Because when someone asks you a question, you don't stand still and not answer.

Person 1: Did you like Movie X
Person 2: *Backs away slowly*
You do on a forum.
*Backs away slowly*

OT: It's just to add perspective to the conversation. There's no point in discussion if everyone had the same opinion. Although, people who just say a topic doesn't interest him/her and doesn't say why are equally as pointless.
