Why do people post when they have nothing to say?

I wondered the same as the OP when I read the post a picture of yourself. I didn't want to so I had nothing to contribute to the thread.

I assume people want to voice an opinion even if it doesn't add anything to the discussion, perhaps rather narcissitically believing there personal input is of some importance to anyone bar themselves.

I always assumed it was constrained to the imageboards, although a lot of people who visit imageboards probably come here too but probably forget to change their attitudes. Go figure.

One word: Postcount.

People just want to get their postcount up so other people will notice them, it's an ego thing. Plus there's badges involved if you do it well. Of course since they're posting low content crap, they're not doing it well...

It doesn't happen as much here as it does on other forums. Boredom could be another cause though.

It makes me rage a little aswell, I just think "How did that help?". If they had spent 1 second longer, they could have come up with a good post but no, they go with generic answer #294.

All in the name of post count.

Anyway, who is going to beat sass? I mean come on! Nearly 60k posts? Dude should get a new badge, 10k posts without mod wrath it will be the pic of the oracle. (if he has been a good poster that is)

I would guess it was because they want a high post number. Honestly though, why bother having a high number when more than half of your posts are one word responses.

Something tells me that they don't care much about doing it well.
Hah, well that's why we have punishments for that sort of thing. If someone doesn't make an effort to communicate then people won't make an effort to talk back and suddenly conversation degenerates. But then again, some people just want to be dicks.

Man I'd dig that xD.

And it seems I took this the wrong way round. This thread is towards low content posts that are slightly off-topic.

I've hardly seen them except the video 'Neutral Response' which sometimes irks me.

If I don't have anything to say, I try my best to form a good post. I wouldn't have entered a thread just to post nothing, it interested me y'know?

Well aren't they allowed to have a neutral response? For example in a thread about crying and movies.
"I haven't cried once watching a movie. Is this normal?"

And to counter that they want to raise their post count, perhaps they should walk over to the Forum Games sub-forum...
[sub]P.S. There can be a very dry season of threads so you end up posting anyway >.>[/sub]
I thought your post count didn't get raised if you posted in the Forum Games. At least, that's how -most- places do it...

OT: What I think? Probably post count. That, and "Notice me! Notice me! Notice me!"

If that was true, a lot of people's post count would be halved. Mine? Probably lose a thousand posts at the minimum >.>

That's pretty lame, in my opinion, but you know what's not lame? Your awesome avatar. Cracks me up every single time.

Well, one warning in my time here is a fairly good record, although there is probably someone who has been here longer then I have with a clean slate. And define good, really. At least 50K of those posts have been in Forum Games and/or Groups.

My post count would probably lose 50K if they didn't count Forum Games. >>

Well, the clickety-clackety is quite soothing.

But, in all seriousness, people like to be heard. They like it when others hear their opinion of the topic at hand.

I think a year with only one warning is good. I have been here awhile and I have had one probation but I got it removed.

I assumed most came from forum games. I have yet to venture into that section of this site.
