It helps to identify themselves if they have no avatar. Plus, sometimes it looks spiffy.

It does look rather spiffy, Coldstorage believes it to be rather fetching even, Coldstorage always enjoyed seeing Xvito's Keeping It Excellent.

As well as signatures ColdStorage really likes typing in the third person.

lately i've been browsing youtube and various forums and i've been noticing lots of people putting weird little signitures at the bottom of their comments, i just think its useless since we can already see who they are anyway from the name next to the comment.

-AshPox <<<< thats what the signatures look like, pretty useless, is there actually any point to putting that there?
It's called pretentious bullshit. But, fortunately, if you spot it before reading the post itself, you can just skip reading the post. Such a person never has anything useful to say.

On some really nice forums, you can actually report them for it :)

I hate that so many people see it as arrogance. I mean, sure, it COULD be. I sign all my emails and it sometimes sneaks into forum posts (though I try to avoid it to avoid this issue). To me, it's just about the personal touch. If you take the time to put your name (or screen name) to it, then you most likely will really stand behind what you wrote. Yeah, we all know the name is right there for you to see, but there's something about actually signing the post that makes it seem more professional and more well-thought-out.

So, in defiance of arrgoance,

Well it makes people feel that if you skipped reading the name and just right to what they said they'd be forgotten. So adding it in gives a extra chance to be noticed
