Most of it is just based off of a gimmick. Plus there are no "hardcore" games on the console. I have one but rarely play it. Last game I got was the Conduit the day it came out and I've only played it about 3 or 4 times. Maybe if the graphics were better and the games had more depth I wouldn't hate it so much, but most of the games are childish and work off of a gimmick.
Okay good graphics for the Wii...ya got me there. Actually all my friends have said compared to the other shooters crowding the market its kinda sub par. Tell me how lackluster is the story and what not? Im sure this not alot of glitches or anything. And can you play with friends when ya have those damn friend codes?
Story is alright, gameplay is fairly intense, what it lacks in set pieces it makes up for in sheer enemy numbers and difficulty, and the graphics are technically sound but artistically poor. I can name a number of games that are technically inferior but look "better".
And multi player is good fun and the voice communication does it's job.
The only ones that spring to mind at this moment are Dead Space Extraction and Resident Evil Darkside Chronicles. Otherwise one will have to wait for Red Steel 2 and The Grinder.
Part A can't happen though, because not every game will use the same online servers. Nintendo has their own servers, and so does EA, Activision, and SEGA. Capcom will probably have its own servers too, once Monster Hunter Tri gets over here. Long story short, it's impossible to coordinate a general friend code among all those different servers.
Although if Nintendo just made a general friend code for all of their first-party games, that would be pretty nice.
That being said, the feature is only if developers use Nintendo's servers. SEGA, Activision and EA can and have used their own servers, and those don't require FCs.

One rarely plays shooters for the story. But I'm not quite sure how to answer this.
You see, the Conduit presents a story via cutscenes and radio chatter between the main characters. This story is passable, but nothing really special. However, that is not all of the story. High Voltage Software hid secret messages on the walls that you can find with your ASE. These messages make all sorts of references to American history, mythology, and real-world conspiracy theories. This part is far more interesting, but it requires some research on your part. I found a thread on GameSpot where people have pieced much of this hidden story together. If you want, here's a link. But I'd recommend beating the game first, as the thread does contain spoilers.
To play a closed match with friends, you do need friend codes. Other than that though, they aren't needed. This game is by far the best multiplayer game on the console. Plus it supports WiiSpeak, which is pretty cool.
the reason that i dont like the wii is because there is so much shovelware and almost no good games for it. i do like a few wii games but the majority of them just dont have what im looking for in a game. the games tend to be short, shallow, and for the most part aimed at young kids or middle aged house wives. now i dont think a game has to be violent and bloody to be fun but it does need to remain fun after the first half hour of play.
Well, most of the controls concerning motion control can be solved by a simple wrist shake, unless you cough up some extra money. It is having a lack of the old Nintendo classics that everyone loves until recently, and generally, it lacks multiplayer and good online function from what I've seen to add more gameplay to most games.

sounds nice...but personally I would rathe play red steel. that the only wii game the grabbed my attention before the infulx of casual games. that and mario kart.
Actually, you probably don't want to. The general consensus from both critics and fans was that Red Steel was a poor game and The Conduit is much better by comparison. That being said, Red Steel 2 looks quite promising.
super mario 64 was the first and maybe best game i ever played. however galaxy was terrible and certaintly worse than anything on the 360. i have an old working n64 and would not trade it for the wii. in fact i would rather have a gamecube than own a wii. owning a wii is like having a bumper sticker that says. "i'm obssesed with defending crappy games, and i would rather do that then play good ones, and you are actually physically defending it with this thread, you therefore being the worst offender of them all
Ugh, can't believe I'm responding to this kind of post, but it's for the greater good.

Check the high-scores chart on that page. Super Mario Galaxy got a 97/100.

Check the high-scores for these two consoles. Only one game beats Galaxy, and it's the same for both systems: GTA4. Uncharted 2 ties with Galaxy, to be fair.
There is also a fairly solid list of 90+ titles, so I don't know how anyone could ever say the Wii has absolutely no good games.
People ***** about the Wii because it is 'cool' to do so. It is popular and prints its own money. Therefore bandwagon-logic suggests that those who diss it are, through some reverse continuum, cool. Like how people complain about Final Fantasy or, in the common populace, the Dog Whisperer.
On the by, I enjoy the Wii and am glad I purchased one in 2006. My library of games for it is huge, and I have yet to own WiiFit or WiiPlus. By the gods, I do not have a Mario Wii game for it yet! I'm behind!
edit - I downloaded Super Mario World off of the VC a year or two ago, so I am not Mario-less. Not that I didn't own it for the snes, but I lost a regretful few of my snes games during one particular move and the game is one of the best out there. Same with Ocarina of Time.

The thing about game consoles is that you don't need to represent all games behind it. By that logic the original xbox and anyone who owns one is shit. The wii has several good games that doesn't mean a hardcore nintendo fan (like me) enjoys the shovelware, thats just the stigma that goes with it. Which I can cope with because I don't really care about what people think of me when I say I own a wii.
Also I meant old mario games, from gamecube and before. Those kids with only 3rd gen games are worse than shovelware players in my opinion.

And I think that's the main issue, people judge based on ALL the games. No one in their right mind would play all that shovelware. Every movie has a game spinoff, and it makes me sick. We need to stop judging consoles on bad games, and go by their merits.
Where the fuck are you getting that statistic? Because last time I checked, unless you're buying all of the dreaded, hated, and feared "casual" games, you don't need ANY of them.
I own fifteen Wii titles and the only peripherals I have acquired are a spare racing wheel (for Mario Kart) and the Wii Motion+. All the guns and stuff are just there for fun; fun that you aren't required by law to pay for.

I remember a debate about this before. I kept using Contra as an example. The game has no depth, yet it's essentially dubbed as a "hardcore title" due to the skill and reflexes such a game takes. So to use depth as an example means that Contra or Metal Slug can't be "hardcore", and by some respects might be casual.
And by that respect, despite what people will think because of it's exterior, games such as Professor Layton, which anyone can play, and Little King's Story, are pretty much hardcore, as they have depth, with Professor Layton having an unlockable 100 hour side RPG. But my mother and sister can play such games. Hell they might even play them casually, like you can play any other game casually. It's a can of worms, I think.
Also, full priced games having depth is and should be, a standard. They shouldn't be hardcore, they should just be games. A game without depth or high production value should be budget titles.
Gah, I don't want to make a large list, but okay I'll stick some up...
Super Mario Galaxy
Cursed Mountain
No More Heroes
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
SSX Blur
Battalion Wars 2
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
Dead Space Extraction
The Conduit
House Of The Dead: Overkill
Punch Out!!
Tatsunoko vs Capcom
Mario Kart Wii
Zelda: Twilight Princess
MadWorld
Zack & Wiki
Metroid Prime Trilogy
de Blob
Pikmin New Play Control
Excite Truck
And a host of others. Games I'm looking forward to are Red Steel 2, No More Heroes 2, Monster Hunter 3, Metroid: Other M, The Grinder and new Zelda.
