Why do people rush through Left 4 Dead, instead of enjoying it "properly"?

Out of my own sadistic little urges, I once shot the car in the first level of No Mercy. I ran to the safe room and locked the door while my teammates were still far behind. I once did the same when a Tank appeared. Just ran for the safe room door and locked it behind me while my party got slaughtered.

Those are some of the most cowardly and, at the same time, sadistic moments I ever had in a game.

For me, sneaking around in LD4 is boring. I like facing the giant hordes of zombies and shooting them in the face with a shotgun.

It's the "Speedy Gonzales" for true Americans, cuz Peter Griffin doesn't like illegal immigrants.
*awaits cookie

OT: I never thought about trying to sneak thru a campaign. Its could be really tense, but it won't stop a random horde, so you will get alittle of both anyways. I only have a on 360, otherwise that campaign would be worth checking out

I love Left 4 Dead, I gots it on my 360.
Just because we run, and I use the term "run" lightly, through levels doesn't mean we enjoy them. Most people will not try to outrun hordes, but they also won't stand still. The fear of going to slowly is real enough, you don't want the AI Director to get bored and throw a horde or two of zombies at you.

I have most of the achievements on that game and hey, I'll say I got my money's worth.

Sometimes I get nervous and pumped, and all I wanna do is reach the safe house alive because Louis is dead and the Tank is distracted by my teammate. So really, rushing can be a good thing.

TBH, the rock at Death Toll isn't too bad. I was under the assumption that the rock was a glitch, and that zombies simply couldn't get up there, but they can, so that rock is about as cheap as piling all of your team into a cupboard, which, when you're on your tenth attempt at the finale on Expert, suddenly isn't cheap at all.

And in Campaign, sometimes its in your best interest to haul ass, especially on Expert. The fast you go, the less special infected/hordes you have to deal with.

Seeing as you can't "lock" the door, it's their fault :3

Unless you stood there closing it EVERY time they went to open it. That's always fun.

I don't know, when my usual team (myself, Prophet, Danny_Ocean and Phoenix Arrow) do campaigns, it tends to turn into run, but at the same time there's a competition (usually between me and Danny) about who can kill the most CI during the campaign. If I had a shotgun and I knew where I needed to be (and once I got there I'd be safe), I'd go hell for leather to get there quickly. Your problem spawns from the fact that the way that you play and the way your mate plays differs, as it does in our group. The difference? We stay in pairs. Unless you get an *instant* double incap, two players can keep each other alive as well as 4 can.

Dude, that sounds boring. I want crazy dual-wielding pistol shotgun-headshot action, not sneaking around.

Addendadillium: Did anyone else enjoy shoving zombies of the Mercy hospital's roof?
I love seeing hunters miss me and fly off :D

I agree. The game is much better when you enjoy it. It is even more better when you have competent teammates, which is never (for me at least).

I also like to take my time through the game. Frankly if I was in that world I'd be taking my sweet time to stay undetected rather than running head first into a room full of horde. My only problem with the co-op match up of the game is that point. You rarely get to team up with an entire group who likes to play at the same speed that you do.
Plus during the finales I always see the gattling gun as the centre of the defence but very few "team mates" seem bothered with protecting the person on the gun.
It's very frustrating.

I dunno, frankly I don't think L4D attracts the kind of people who like to take their time, FPSers aren't that kind of gamer, and frankly, I find it to be sad.
Actually survival mode attracts that kind of gamer. You really meet a whole different kind of people playing survival than you do playing versus. Survival players take their time looking around the map, exploring every little nook and cranny hoping to find a glitch or exploit they can use. Versus it's more run and shoot, stopping only to heal when it's absolutely necessary or there's an extra medkit.

Because if you stop and stare at the wall the AI director will send a tank or two at you in expert mode.

Because, most people find that tactic to there liking.
Other people like to sneak.

You can do either and you'd still enjoy the game "properly."

During the level where you have to escape on a boat my friends and I ran from the house we were defending right to the boat and 2 of them got picked off by the horde. Me and Louis made it to the boat while the other two fell to the floor, surrounded by the infected. Instead of rushing to the rescue we decided to wait for them to die so the level would end...I'm So Ashamed!

People have very different ideas of fun, ussually those who play zombie shooters would want the adrenaline of the zombie horde chasing them rather than this sneaking around buzz that you get twice as much of when playing a theif game.
I understand the term 'enjoyment' is relative to each individual.I guess I like the whole soaking up the atmosphere experience because I have more time on my hands.

***SPOILER FOR I AM LEGEND***
I enjoyed the 'I am Legend' type of zombie (or darkseeker, whatever they are called) apocalypse where Will Smith attempts to avoid the zombies (until he goes bonkers) rather than the '28 Days later' style zombie apocalypse.
***END SPOILER***

Personally, I think deducing what happened in certain areas of the game (such as a military cordon) which you would normally miss while rushing through makes for a better game, but hey, it's just my opinion.
