Why do so many people complain about Sonic?

As the title says, why do people whine about it so much? In my honest opinion, the games are fine. True some are terrible, such as Sonic Heroes, but it's not a reason to want to kill the whole series. I see people always saying "JUST LET IT DIE ALREADY" and that doesn't make sense to me. If you keep thinking they HAVE to be as good as the old ones, you're going to be disappointed. Sega is trying to do something new instead of recreating the same thing. They have the balls to do something they want to do. And if you honestly don't like the games, don't play them. Why kill the whole effing series just because YOU don't like them. It's not like they're forcing you to play them. I myself would be sad if Sonic died, because I love some of their games. Sonic Unleashed, Sonic Riders (Not Zero G. That one sucked), Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, etc. Stop complaining about a series that you can just ignore if you don't like it.

Not all the games are bad. And who knows, the next great game could be next...

Why does everyone complain about Sonic Heroes?

Let's see what comes to mind... For one, they recently announced a Sonic Kart racer. Seems like the world's fastest hedgehog is still trying desperately to keep up with a fat little plumber. Sonic 2006 has a bunch of underlying creepy themes to it such as bestiality and pedophilia. And Sonic Unleashed? Well, the game play was ripped so much to the point of blandness. The speed sections were some of the best in years, but that takes a seat behind the long and tedious werehog sessions (and lets not forget about the coin collection either.)

Haven't played any in the storybook saga yet, and frankly I don't really want to.

I think Yatzee tells us why fairly well when reviewing that stupid sonic game where sonic turns into a Were Wolf. Sonic Unleashed I believe.

Actually I think the last Sonic Game that was really any good was Sonic Adventures for Game Cube, and it was only good for the DigiPets... Chao. Sure the Sonic and Shadow levels were good, but the Tails and Eggman levels and the Knuckles levels and whatever that stupid bat rat thing is called all kind of sucked.

Let's not forget the insufferable music. Crappy Pop, Techno-Pop, NU-Metal Pop hybrids, and horrible attempts at Rap.

At least they didn't play Pearl Jam

Those are opinions. Just because you don't like them means it all should die? And to Valentine82: So, you let people decide you're thoughts instead of thinking for yourself. Yeah, that totally says individuality.

The hunting levels were actually quite fun. But I agree with the Tails and Eggman levels...

Well I hope your right. To be honest, I want Mario and Sonic to keep going forever because it just won't seem the same without them.

I didn't say sonic should die, but Yatzee's opinions also come with some arguments for why he has the opinions and they're also fairly wide spread opinions that gamers tend to come about on their own and manifest in their posts and blogs without ever themselves reading a negative review.

Frankly I loved sonic adventures, terrible robot levels and horrible music aside, but that was only for a few Sonic and Shadow levels and the Chao.

Mostly the Chao, gods I loved those little buggars. My Angel and Devil Chao were so CUTE.

I also like it too. My strongest chao can beat anything. And it's neutral.

Did anyone ever play Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for Game Gear? That was my only experience with Sonic I could never get past the first boss (who was incredibly hard) shown here: http://www.theghz.com/sonic/son2_gg/son2_04.gif

Balls would bounce down from the top of the screen and you'd have to gauge whether it was a low-bouncing ball and jump over it or if it was a high bouncing ball and crouch under it... and moving up and down the slope was incredibly difficult because it was slippery as hell. Not to mention I was probably 10 or 11 when I had this. I beat this boss twice, maybe three times in my life.

Sonic is like the mentally insane nephew of the gaming family; we're all slightly ashamed about him and everyone is hoping he gets better, but we know his doctors have stopped giving him his meds and are now just keeping him in the cupboard next to the bleach.

Personally I believe that we, the fans, could breath new life into the Sonic Series if we were given the power to tell the idiots at Team Sonic SEGA what to do. Sonic shouldn't die, it should be put under new and better management.

You couldn't go wrong with a new Sonic Adventure game that kept all the best elements of Game Cube's Sonic Adventures and gutted out the parts that didn't work so that the parts that did could be expanded upon and made more rich and rewarding.

But what people suggest could be even worse. And I suppose that could be a good idea, but I like games that are original. Sonic Riders was more original because when the last time someone rode on boards floating in the air?
