Why do so many people complain about Sonic?

because it's obvious that Sonic Team couldn't make good game if their lives depended on it. There hasn't been a decent Sonic game since about Adventure 1 and/or 2. So in the interest of gamers, Sonic, and humanity as a whole just let the tourture stop. Please just stop.

Which reminds me! Thank you Tomoe.

If you like the old school sonic games so much, why not just go and play those. And if you say that you've played them so much you could beat it based off sound, them make your own flash version. The graphics are simple enough that you can easily make one in a flash file.

Sonic unleashed was just painful to play
ever other sonic game in the last 5 years were painful or glitchy.
The reason we want sonic to die is because for ever good game he's been in there have been at least 10 bad ones and I think ti would be kinder to put him out of his misery.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I dont think its so much that people hate sonic as want a good sonic game and really havent had one since he went 3d, granted I enjoyed sonic battle 2 (or whatever) for the game cube but it wasnt a good game by any streach, the people want a good game and it hurts them to see sonic in shit constantly, so much so that they would rather see him dead then in another bad game.

I think if a really good sonic game came out he would be back and popular but the chances of that are slim to nill

It's not really painful to see him in a bad game. It's called ignoring it.

None of the games have been good since Sonic Heroes came out.
Don't even try and deny it. You know it too.
Every game after Heroes are bad.
Adventure 1&2 would have been bad, if it wasn't for Chao World making those Knuckles and Rouge levels bearable.

Was Sonic Riders before it or after? I loved that. And Sonic Heroes sucked. But I did like the intro movie...

As someone said, when people say "SONIC SUX", they are rarely referring to the character itself. I see no fundamental flaws in the Sonic the Hedgehog character, along with the cast of characters. When you get right down to it, it's your standard mix and match cast of the badass, the girlfriend, the sidekick, the semi bad person but who sometimes has good intentions, etc etc etc.

It's Sonic TEAM that is the problem here. To sum up Sonic team in one phrase, "TRYING TOO HARD". They try to give the Sonic games these epic stories and amazing scenery and try so hard, but the fact is that for a character who is a BLUE HEDGEHOG WHO RUNS FAST, none of that is necessary. "You put Sonic here, he must go there, GET GOING" is all the games really need, but Sonic Team forget that that is exactly what brought Sonic to the forefront in the first place.

I've always hoped that Sonic Team would get their heads in the game, but given the announcement recently of SONIC KART RACING, this is not going to happen anytime soon.

I agree. Even I, who is still is a die hard Sonic game fan, hate the idea of karts.

Sonic 1-3 where awesome, and sonic and knuckles was pretty decent, too. After that; however, the games got sketchier and sketchier, they've been beating our once beloved character into dust with terrible game after bad game after terrible game, and it's time to stop and let it die. Platformer doesn't even seem a viable genre anymore, and that's the only place Sonic belongs.

Again, why must it die? Why can't it live and other people enjoy it? If you don't like it, then don't play it.

Those are opinions. Just because you don't like them means it all should die? And to Valentine82: So, you let people decide you're thoughts instead of thinking for yourself. Yeah, that totally says individuality.
Yeah they are opinions... and guess what, games live or die because of opinions.

There is no objective metric for suck.

And as for agreeing with what yatzee says. What's wrong with that? He's popular because people agree with him. Its not: people agree with him because he's popular. And don't bring that 'individuality' bull up, an individual is not defined in a vacuum. Growing up in a western culture GAVE you that pseudo-rebellious sentiment.

In any case, if too many people find the games tiresome and uninteresting, the series will die. If SEGA doesn't start getting off its arse and injecting some new flavor into the series, this is just what's going to happen.

I'm not a fan of Sonic because he is a douchebag. And not just a bit, either. You know your game has an issue when your main character is more of a douchebag than your villain even is. Back when he was voiced by Urkel it was funny and even a little charming when he would make a quip about how cool he was. But now he's just a prick, spouting one obnoxious line after the other for no better reason than he can. It really wouldn't hurt for him to have a little character development if Sonic team plans to have him talk and participate in all these world-shattering plots.

My biggest problem with Sonic games is that at my college there is a large television in the lobby upon which there seems to be a clique of people playing Sonic games all the time, preventing myself, my friends, and any and all interested comers from playing fun multiplayer games like Bomberman '94 and Super Smash Brothers Brawl. These people take turns playing "Sonic '06", supposedly the "worst Sonic game evar", because "it's funny how bad it is". I still can't wrap my head around that one. (Besides, apart from being a little glitchy at times it really does not seem to be that much different from the Adventure Series.) These people make a habit of snarling at you if you ask them questions along the lines of "Why the hell would you want to play this game if it's so terrible?" or "What do those big silver coins do?". I believe this is largely where my animosity towards Sonic games come from. If they keep making new ones it just means more nights of no Smash for me and my friends.

Honestly though, apart from these petty reasons I like Sonic games. I like pretty much all of Sonic's immediate supporting cast and wish they made more games with them. (Mainly Knuckles) I'm also pretty sure the average gamer can think of at least ten ways for them to make Sonic games better, so it isn't like they could never get better at some hypothetical point in the future. The Mario & Luigi-esque DS RPG seemed like a good idea, and I would have even bought it if I had been to the game store since it's release. Maybe if they had a fresh team on the job with some decent ideas every Sonic sequel wouldn't feel like it came from a special level of hell made especially for sending hedgehogs to Camelot or stuffing them in carts to race or something.

oh and i don't agree that platformers are not viable genres any more. SOMETHING has to break the sterile, predictable march of FPS after FPS.

Psychonaughts, uncharted, ratchet and clank... there's still plenty of innovation to keep GOOD platformers alive.

3D Sonic died after their first attempt of making a game. 2D is where it's at but seeing as they refuse to go back there, I think it's safe to say that they are milking the dead cow ...

Because the first sonic games were actually good. They were fun, and pretty gripping. The addictive chemical it sets off was something magical...ever since Sonic Heroes, the series has lost it's spark.

I think they refuse for three reasons:
1. Why go back to 2D? The gameplay of the classic games can easily be recreated, just with a 3D graphic.
2. They want to do something new. I think they are trying to not do the same thing over and over again ,because eventually that will get boring from repeating to many times...
3. Mario and Zelda seemed to have so much success. They could do anything they want and still have billions of loyal fans. But Sonic was bailed out of way too easily. It didn't even get a chance.

On an unrelated note, I am not looking forward to Zelda: Spirit Tracks. I mean, really? Trains? Next it's gonna be cars, and Links gonna be drinking lattes as potions.
