Seriously if not for police I would probably get curb stomped a few years back by skinheads for wearing WRONG SHOE LASES.
You know, speaking as someone who's been a skinhead their entire adult life, I have to say... WHAT THE FUCK?!?!

Could they possibly have come up with a more arbitrary and juvenille reason for kicking someone's head in? I'm thinking not.

Because:
A) People are stupid
B) The Media likes blast every isolated case of police brutality or anything like it all over the place.
C) Rap music. Rappers are constantly slamming the police. You can't tell me that a few dipshit wannabe gangstas don't pick up on that.
D) People are stupid
This. Also, the people who hate the police are the same people who would whine and complain about their teachers in high-school. "Man, its not fair, that ***** is always failing me" "Maybe you should actually turn in that project on time." "Nah, man, its all that *****'s fault, dude..."

Because around where I live, you'd have an easier time finding a fully functioning, homemade space shuttle than a non-corrupt cop. Or, at least, one who doesn't make arrests first, and determine crimes and or those responsible later.

Not all people in the force are bad. I really think there are some left with the true intention of serving justice (and I really do mean that). But some are just power hungered imbeciles that don't even have the rank of shit because they only feel the need to hide behind bushes to trap you when the traffic light turnes red.
In the city I live some of them walk like they are the second rising of the terminator and give me an angry stare when I make fun of them (it's understandable. "Respect my authority!").

If the police force was still truely and only to serve and protect and nothing more than that, I would even consider to sign up. But now I only see them as a tool for the making or maintaining of a totalitarian state to come.

Because they assume I'm doing something illegal because I'm 16 and search me in the street. Like, all the time. And I've seen first hand how dangerous a bizzy that isn't playing by the rules can be (any court will take the word of a cop over a reg'lar schmoe).
Plus I live in Toxteth, and a remnant from the riots is the inherent suspicion and hatred of the police (hell, it's like that all over Liverpool; been like that since Thatcher made the north-south divide; everyone views the police as some alien force from the south. Nobody likes the south, even if it will rise again.)

I think it may be more that people are afraid that the police are going to bust them for something that they didn't think was an offense. In a society where people are allowed to say "fuck the police" people are damn well going to do that if they have a problem. I myself get really nervous around cops when I'm driving and they're hiding their cars in the bushes or whatever. Then again, I wholly support what they do. If it weren't for the police, there would probably be more criminal activity, and fewer awesome songs like "I Fought the Law".

i started feeling badly towards the police when i was an 8 year old girl and my 14 year old brother was thrown on the ground and arrested in front of my eyes. i started disliking the police when i was manipulated, cheated and lied to by them on numerous occasions. i started HATING the police when 2 of them, by "reasonable forth", tackled me on concrete then continued to drag me into the back of their car in handcuffs. a concussion, which the doctor said i was lucky to have survived, 4 staples and serious wounds on my body later, the cops forgot to add that little incident into the police report.
i was 16 and weighed less than 100 pounds when this happened.

i agree, its wrong to hate every single police officer due to bad encounters with alot of them. but the majority of police are condescending assholes who get away with way too much.

Because they are tools of a state designed to perpetuate inequality.

Because "Good boys are never bad boys".

That and people think they are bad-ass by disliking the police or they think the police should just enforce laws against other people.

EDIT: It probably doesn't come across but on the whole I like the police, much like pretty much any other group of people there are good and bad people.

What is it about cops that gets so many people's panties in a bunch? If someone is willing to risk their life everyday to keep me safe, then I'm going to damn well support them, but I seem to be in a shrinking minority, especially with people in my age group and younger (20-30 and under).
Well let's start off with the pretty picture you painted how they selflessly risk their lives to protect freedom, and fully kittens, and gummy bears!
It's just a job they took for 2 reasons, money and power, I know because I have a couple friends in their ranks, and they aren't some idealistic white knights, just regular Joes.

An then we come to the point of why they piss people off, they aren't saints by any means, so they like to dick around as anyone else (when they can't get caught), the difference is they are mostly above the law and therefor can ignore it, while we ordinary folk are suppose to follow it to the letter.
I won't go telling stories those guys have, but let me tell you they like to screw with people just because they can.

I like them just fine actually. Most people don't like them because 90% of the time if one's talking to you it's not a good thing.

Please enlighten me on why you believe (or don' believe) that cops deserve our support.
I can only speak for my case and the main reason that I and a fair few of my friends dislike the police is because we all help out a protest site against a new coal mine in our area.
the police are very quick to respond to any case that involves us protesting (peacefully of course) but never turn up / do anything if, say, we get robbed (as did happen) or are assulted by members of the coal company (also happened).
They're seemingly only there to support the coal company that breaks its own rules and promises and infact a fair few laws.

Thats just us though.

Because it seems like every other week, the RCMP in Canada are on the news with "Accusations of police brutality" or "Abuse of power" or "Drug use".
funny that, these days cops are forever put under the microscope, yet no one even batts an eyelid over how many firefighters turn out to be pyromainaics and become part of the fire service just to get close to the flames, or in some cases set some of the blazes

aren't double standards fun?
