Seriously, I've seen 4 or 5 different topics pop up for this just this week. Why do people like Uncharted, why do people like Minecraft (the most recent ones I've seen), etc. It's ridiculous if you cannot understand that not everyone dislikes what you dislike or likes what you like. It rarely seems to be genuine curiosity, usually it is just "I played this and didn't like it. How can anybody like this?"

The two examples above are actually exceptions to this, but as with the case of Minecraft, the OP admitted that he only played the Xbox Live version and not the PC. Even if the topic had been changed to "PC gamers, what am I missing out on in Mincraft on the 360." That at least would be more acceptable as it asks more about the differences between the versions. But really, is it hard to believe that people just like building random things in the game and can be entertained, even if the OP couldn't? It's like asking why people enjoy playing with Legos. They just like to build stuff.

I remember a couple months back someone opened a topic asking why people liked Game of Thrones, but didn't want to hear about characters or plot, just why people liked it. I mean, really? That's like saying, tell me why you like a perfectly cooked steak, don't tell me about the flavor or texture, just why do you like it. That is just asinine.

Are we just that desperate for new topics that we have to throw in these relatively pointless threads? Is it just overinflated ego that these people just can't see past their own likes and dislikes? I don't know, maybe it's just the wording of the subject line in the topics, but it makes the OPs sound so full of themselves and blind to the opinions of others.

So, rant over. What do you all think? Am I blowing this out of proportion or is anyone else tired of these threads?

Because people are special little snowflakes that can't comprehend how someone could possibly like something they don't.

Personally, I want to know why everyone likes that Daystar chap.

I think he's a right smeghead.

I swear we just had this thread.

Please don't make me make a "Why do so many people make "Why do so many people make "Why do so many people like X topics""" topic. I'm not sure it would fit.

...

Anyway, sometimes it's genuine curiosity. Much of the time it's because encountering significant numbers of people with views different to our own causes us to doubt the validity of our own views. So we either seek to attack those opposing views or seek confirmation of our own from people who share them. Hence the threads.

So you're saying I should just skip ahead to the "Why do so many people make "Why do so many people make "Why do so many people make "Why do so many people make "Why do so many people like X topics"""""?

An Off-Topic forum is drowning in Meta threads.

Must have missed that one, or I would have just posted my frustration there.

Some people wonder if they've missed a hidden gem in the game that unlocks another level of fun and experimentation. Others wonder if they need to get to a certain point in the game before it really picks up. These are the less pessimistic answers, which probably account for more of these threads than the more jaded user might think. Some people just have an axe to grind though, and want to try to get people to defend their purchasing decisions. I don't think many people can be bothered with all the back-and-forths to create those kind of threads though.

If you're now wondering why people weigh-up the different possiblities for questioning what others enjoy, for this person,it s because he can't sleep.

Curiosity, I'd imagine. If I don't see why a thing I hated is praised loudly, I may become curious and want specifics. Sometimes, those specifics are covered in other threads, so you can glean the information from those (see anything about the XBox 1), which would make asking the question pointless and in bad form. Other times, however, a thing just seems to treated as a given, no discussion apparent. The thread about Gordon Freeman's status amongst silent protagonists is a good example. In those cases, making a thread that, point blank, asks for specific information about the common position, which doubles to allow for a sharing of dissenting views since all the opinions are being given in such a straightforward manner, can alleviate this curiosity. rarely, it may change someone's perspective; even if it doesn't, you'll understand something you didn't before, and that's always good.

I'd like to think it's innocent curiosity, but I'm more inclined to believe that it's 'STOP LIKING WHAT I DON'T LIKE'.
