Why do some gay people seem to talk differently?

Haha, I know what you mean. And it´s actually a lot more common in german-speaking parts of the world, I noticed. A couple of the gay guys I know speak like that. I find it quite annoying sometimes actually. Like they have to wear their sexuality like a badge of honor all the time. Luckily it´s not all that common and I´m glad the few gay friends I have aren´t like that.

Wait, do they have it when they speak in German? What does that even sound like? I need a reference for this to believe it.

My guess would be a sort of Green Beard Effect [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_beard].

It helps some gay men recognize each other. It's hanky code, but with less paisley.
Holy crap Dags, I just nearly choked to death on my coffee laughing at that ;-)

Thing with stereotypes is that there is often a degree of truth to them. Sometimes those stereotypes are deliberately affected, sometimes they just happen.

I didn't wake up one day and decide to be butch, it just happened organically. But a lot, probably the overwhelming majority, of gay women aren't butch. Some gay guys flame a little harder than others - sometimes on purpose, sometimes not. The reasons for why that happens would fill a book and there is probably no legitimate conclusion that can be made.

I don't know. A few of my friends (just two...actually I think they are the only gay guys I know. So yeah, two guys are definitely not representative) started speaking in the way I'm guessing you're thinking (I really don't know how to describe it. Effeminate lispy? I hope I don't sound bigoted) after they came out. It was weird. You see someone you know and you know their voice, but then it suddenly sounds way different. But I know some straight guys who speak that way too.

Are you insinuating my deep voice is fake.If so, I would demand an apology. ^^ /deepvoice

What bothers me more though, is why people are getting kind of upset of him asking.
This first reply to this was kind of antagonizing, imo. He's just asking, and he got an answer.
