Just watch it. Certainly a touching episode in my eyes, moreso than any other animated shows of similar criteria have been lately.

I think it's with most of the new episodes they lack the orginality of the earlier episodes

Because in my opinion, they are. They need to STOP. It got bad just before the movie came out.

I prefer Futurama.

Mostly it's the pacing for me. The older episodes seemed to be a lot less stuffed with crap.

They were never really funny to me, except for the odd line here or there. But I liked it better when they felt like full episodes of something instead of half episodes rushing to wrap up every storyline.

From what I've seen in most of the later episodes the characters have lost a lot of their nuance and just become parodies and extremes of themselves, just as Flanders becoming ridiculously fundie instead of just an annoying friendly neighbour, or Nelson going from a mean bully with cowardly sidekicks to just a boy who says "ha-ha" everytime something goes wrong. There's a few gems left, but most of what produced now is substandard to what it was in early seasons.

Well I don't know about the "new" versus "old" episodes, I just don't like Simpsons much because it is largely stupid humor, with maybe one intelligent or referential joke per episode.

Exception: If I am so so terribly worn out that I don't want to think (which is rare) I might put it on just for something mindless to distract me.

But even the new comeback season of futurama wasn't as funny as the older seasons

I don't think it's bad anymore. The show was freaking amazing for about ten or so years (pretty great accomplishment), got pretty bad for another ten or so years, and towards the end of season 20 things inexplicably got pretty funny again (although it'll never really match the magic of the first ten seasons).

Why do people think the new simpsons episodes are bad? Because they don't like them. Personally, having not watched Simpsons out of an urgent sense of not wanting to watch any more cringe-worthy bad TV for several years now (this is almost all TV, not just the Simpsons) I just think it's boring. The characters are played out, and have been since season 6 or so. The episodes are formulaic, preachy and generally uninteresting, the political commentary is weak and colourless, the jokes are not funny and the entire show just seems to be resting on four typecast characters going through the same motions every episode.

I don't blame people who find it funny. These are purely my own thoughts on the show. Comparing it to what I watch, it has far less likable characters than Daria, far less humour than Freakazoid or Drawn Together, the political commentary is better in the Daily Show and engaging storylines are better found in Doctor Who.

Personally, however, I dislike almost anything in the category Matt Groening and Seth McFarlane. Simpsons, Futurama, Family Guy, American Dad.. trite and boring in my opinion. And yes, I've seen enough of it to know what I'm talking about.

It was bad years before the movie came out. They had some of their worst seasons during the production.

Honestly, this season is the best we have had in a very long time, and I have no clue why the bitching about recent Simpsons has increased threefold in the past few months.

I stopped watching after an episode that portrayed every Army soldier as a blithering idiot. The joked continued throughout the episode. No one in the military was remotely likable, just retards. I have friends in the army in Afghanistan. It really rubbed me the wrong way when they made fun of the common soldier. To mock the higher ups is one thing. To mock the eighteen year old kid that wants to serve his country relentlessly is another.

Anyway they were downhill after season five. It's still makes me smile when I happen to see a new episode. But I'm not laughing out loud like I did in seasons three through six.

simpsons arent bad they are just old. i would like to know of any other series that after 20 years was still as good as it was at its best.

if you dont like the simpsons stop watching it and the series will be cancelled. they are obviously not cancelling it because it still gets the ratings needed to continue.

just cause you watched the simpsons 10 years ago and now dont like it doesnt mean that there arent new people watching and enjoying the new episodes. 20 years on air or what ever it is mean that there is an entirly new generation of people alive today to watch the simpsons that werent even born at the begining.

Because in this jaded cynical age of the internet, its cool to hate on things that are popular. People have been doing that with the simpsons for well over a decade now. Honestly for the last 2-3 years, Watching the fox animation block of 1.5 hours of seth mcfarlane and the simpsons, 8-10 times I will find one single episode of the simpsons funnier than all 3 of Mcfarlanes shows, or whatever slotfiller fox throws in with the mix.

Honestly the show isnt bad at all. Its grown with its demographic and changed from what it originally was, and we know how fans react to changing a formula they once liked.

In my eyes, the series has been stagnating since Season 5. The series' philosophy is that using the same range of humor will keep the series going.

The Simpsons has never been a real favourite of mine. I think this is because the classic episodes were made when I was very young and didn't grasps the themes in them. However I do appreciate the quality. I don't watch newer episodes though.

I dig the new episodes just fine. I think, like with anything, people like to complain about "the way things used to be" until something new comes along, then they love it, then they curse it for changing on them. ;)
