Why do Vegetarians get so much hate?

I have actually met a decent vegan. To be fair, she is back to eating meat(she says the diet is healthier) and she IS lactose intolerant.

I also live with a lactose intolerant vegetarian who eats fish. She also has the incredible nerve to say Ew when meat is at the table. I have to say that I have showed a great amount of patience by NOT ripping her a new one.

I deserve a cookie, Methinks.

Frankly, I find myself not really caring what happened to my meat as long as its edible. As horrible as it sounds, its what I feel. I have no problem with how others feel, either. Even the ones with their moral high ground because in the end, I get to smirk inwardly.

Don't cows LIKE being milked? I never saw how that is cruelty.
Machine milking is supposed to be fairly harmful to the cows. They develop blisters in their udders and pus gets into our milk. The farmers actually lobbied with the FDA to keep pus from being part of the ingredients they have to list in the packaging, but it's there.

And eggs, man. Eggs. Have you ever heard of a chicken battery? They keep the chickens in the dark, cut off their beaks - because otherwise the conditions in the batteries cause the chickens to peck each other to death, they're all stuffed together, the air quality's unbreathable, they're covered in shit, and their feet are fused to the wire cage.

It's not like vegans don't have reasons.

I'm gonna just be a dick and say:
"Because It's stupid."
Why I say this is because I believe animals are lesser than humans. Why? because I can have that belief and get away with it. I honestly don't care about your choice or anyone else choice I just disagree with it.

Decent points, Statistically speaking every Vegetarian saves roughly 100 animals per year.
Yes animals do die in grazing for vegetables, but i'm not stupid enough to let myself starve to death. Im not trying to Change the world, its more or less about just not being involved in the actual cruelty. However i give no one flack for their personal choice, but animal cruelty is an issue, you can't just say its not, but we are in a world full of issues so its easy to bypass it for something more relate-able like slave labor and Abortion. As for half assed? I don't see how not eating meat can be half assed, unless they eat is occasionally and don't tell anyone but its pretty black and white, you either eat it or you don't.

Also, Pointing out they're wrong is also kind of grey, when you say that do you mean you tell them their wrong when you find out their vegetarian? or when they start pushing it on you, Cause i am a firm believer it is not anyones place to push anything on anyone else.
So because I eat meat, I'm being cruel to the animals? That sort of argument doesn't fy with me, to put it very crudely; it was dead before I got to it, and I didn't torture it to death.

I don't think you'll be able to find many meat-eaters who actually slaughter their own dinner.

I don't mind vegetarians, its your choice and all that, but the bolded quote above is just yet another example of the usual "I'm saving the world" pretentious fanfare that seems to acompany it.
Glad you picked up on that Frag, nail on the head. THATS why we have issues with some veggies.

I'm okay with several vegans I know, but others I'm not.

The difference? How they act about it. If they just treat it like a choice of theirs I'm cool with it, but when they try to look down their nose from a high horse (horse meat is actually quite good btw) and play "holier than thou" on terms of diet, then I have problems.

I have no problem with vegetarians. I do have problems with people who disparage everyone elses lifstyles because they misguided emotional connections with animals. I don't think "animal cruelty" is an issue that requires much attention.

Is it so wrong to truly have a problem with cruelty?
Regardless of whether it is cruelty or not, calling something that someone regularly does cruel will probably make them defensive. If you use this in conversation, it may give you trouble. People like the status quo.

Anyway, people use stereotypes to understand the world around them. They generally obtain these from vegetarians who are vocal, (i.e., pretentious people, extremists (i.e., you can't say "vegetarian" without saying "Aryan"), pretentious extremists) or people they know.

I developed one of my stereotypes from a friend who became a vegetarian. He hates vegetables. Completely. Also, he gave an absolute refusal to get the proper testing to make sure that his diet is ok because he doesn't like needles. In other words, this was utterly poorly thought out. I remember actually getting him to stop eating some dessert for a few seconds by telling him that coconut comes from animals. This seems to be a trope to some extent.

There's also people who are just jerkfaces to you if you are not vegetarian/vegan/fruitarian.

This doesn't justify what they are thinking of you, but it's an explanation.

Not sure whether this has been done before, I have been a Vegetarian for 3 years now Because I find it is a healthier diet (yes I get protein) and I do not want to be apart of animal cruelty at all. And I find when a lot of people find out i'm a vegetarian they go for the throat so to speak. I am constantly told why i'm wasting my time and how I must be a drag to go out to dinner with, Basically told I'm stupid for my diet choice. I have never once preached to anyone, complained at a restaurant about having no food or put my health at risk. So I must ask Why all the flack? Is it so wrong to truly have a problem with cruelty? (whether it be towards animals of humans) and don't we have better things to judge people on than something as unimportant as what a person chooses to consume. My personal belief is that when someone finds out i'm Veg they immediately figure i'm going to preach to them, or that I feel i am an elitist who thinks I am better than them. But I have never done either of these things. I would be very interested to hear peoples thoughts on this, and just vegetarianism as a whole. Also any Vegetarians have the same experience?

(this applies to not eating Any Meat whatsoever non of that "Flexitarian" stuff)
Because we all have this mentality that meat rules

which it does

Probably because there are a lot of vegans/vegitarians who think they're better than every one else because they dont eat meat, or because they dont kill animals.

I have been a vegitarian all of my life and have had to deal with these people giving vegitarians a bad name. I choose not to eat meat because I dont like the way it tastes. Not because I dont like animal cruelty (I dont btw) or that I want to be healthier.
