Its just human nature.

When someone disagrees with us, we try to change its mind through violence or just by killing it.

Sigh.

While part of it is that some people are violent twats I think mostly it comes down to people have different metrics and measures of what is right and wrong and that will ALWAYS lead to conflict.

Lets look at a classic conflict that people WON'T SHUT UP ABOUT, or at least they won't shut up about it around here:

So we have person A and person B.

Person A and B both believe that murder is wrong.

Person A and B both believe that sometimes force is necessary to prevent murder.

Here's where they split:

Person A believes that another person's life begins at conception, and that therefore abortion is wrong because by their metric it is ending a life through what they consider murder.

Person B believes does not believe that another persons life begins at conception, they believe that 'it' can't really be called a 'person' until a later point.

Which one is right? Which one is wrong? Fuck all if I know, there is no grand moral compass laid out by the universe for us to follow and ultimately the axioms that you make these decisions on boil down to OPINIONS.

Problem is that while BOTH viewpoints are based on unprovable opinions the very difference will inevitability lead to conflict of some sort be it social, political or violence.

I know some of you are going to cry foul now and say that we should 'tolerate the opinions of others' and by-n-large I would agree, to a point, but everyone has a limit to what is acceptable and will reach the point of no longer being able to 'tolerate the intolerable.'

...

I've said it before and I'll say it again, as long as 'people' are still 'people' and not 'mindless automatons incapable of independent action' there will always be differences of opinion, and frequently the logical conclusion of these differences will be conflict.

At the end of the day I find these discussions kind of useless because reality is what it is, and sitting here whining about how awful it is and how much we all suck is unhelpful at best to counterproductive and damaging at worst.

I've been wondering over the past few days. It came across to me while playing Uncharted 2. I started to try and answer that question by myself and had me stumped. Do we fight for the thrill and excitement , or is it a question of honour or mentality for others. It could just simply boil down to human nature, back when we were primitive people and would settle disputes with clenched fist.
I would like to know what conclusion you lot can come to.
Well to be honest. I dont like fighting in a game. Yeah its fun and gives some thrill... but i prefer i good fist fight in real life. No weapons, just pure skill (or no skill) one on one combat. All i need is a willing opponent who im glad to try hitting (in other words, not my boyfriend or his mate since they would be the only ones i currently know with skill).

Fight or Flight

Something upsets us in some way (Angers, scares, shocks etc) and we either react passivley (Flight) by ignoring it, running away or trying to avoid dealing with the issue...or aggressively (Fight) through argument, conflict and war

Thousands of years of evolution have burned into our brains a "fight or die" instinct.
Not to question on your answer, but what when I thought it was human nature. Surely not all, but some people can just tune out that instinct like greed. Sure that's not enough to say it isn't human nature, but I don't think it's the true answer if you excuse me
Thats true, people can tune it out.
These days we don't need it as much as we did back when humans were first evolving.

But that doesn't mean its not there, it is.

Subconsiously, killing gives us a thrill. Not everyone mind you, but a really big portion of the human population.

This is probably why killing is in just about every game ever made, or at least some form of violence. Those that don't have any just get left behind, much like an ancient human who doesn't want to fight.

"How much can you possibly know about yourself if you've never been in a fight?"

First thing I thought of when I saw the thread title.

We are evolved to do such.
All species either evolve to effectively fight, or run.
The ones that don't, usually die.

It's always easier to make your problem go away by punching it to death rather than by talking to it reasonably. That's just how it goes, unfortunately.

Because when life has got us so disillusioned and down with its endless output of shallow materialism and false hopes, sometimes there's just nothing else that'll make us feel better than beating the living shit out of something or someone.

Violence is the simplest and most expedient method of asserting dominance.

Personally, I just like the blood.

Fighting gets your point across faster, and it sticks longer. Plus, it can be a damn good time.

Humans are self-destructive, it's in our veins. Men acquire power. What do they want? Possession. How do you possess that which isn't yours? You kill everyone standing in your way. Someone else doesn't like what you're doing? They will attack you in their turn.

I just told you the entire course of human history in less than fifty words.
