What the title says.

How come all kids, teens and a mojority of people who go to college or university don't exactly care about there education ? I can easily say i don't give a crap about my education ,the only reason i try to do good is to make my parents proud ,I never cared about it in the sense for my own betterment.

that was very brief just to let you know so i didn't exactly put all of my idea in.

Didn't you know OP? Intelligence is for the nerdy!
Yeah, I wanna live in a trailer park and make $2,000 a year! But I'll still be cool!

(Not meaning to offend anybody about the Trailer Park crack.)

But I think that sums it up.

It perplexes me why people don't get the simple equation of:
Education = Money.
EDIT: What I mean by this is that the more education you recieve = Theres a chance that you will make more money.

I DO care because I know if I screw it up I have to get some really bad job like inspecting pen lids.
I suppose most people see it as their time to be free, so they don't want to spend that time sitting around learning.

Some of us care. I just finished my first year of sixth form. If my dad had his way, i'd be in the forces already. If my mum had hers i'd be in full time employment.
What i'm doing, i'm doing for me. Because i enjoy it and because its best for me. Most of my friends are the same.

Well at my school a lot of people couldn't give two fucks about further education or even their high school results. Honestly, I know where they're coming from. Right now the rest of my life seems as far away as the moon, (Yes, I know that that was lame :() as such, it's difficult to actually care about my education sometimes. I'm reminded of that famous quote which said something along the lines of "All man fears is the unknown" except that in this case "All teenagers don't care about the unknown" would be more accurate.

But I want to carry on with my education. It takes a few years of my (hopefully) long life but, I'd rather have an education and not need it than need one and not have it.

Because most 'education' is stuff that none of us care in the slightest about. It's hard to impossible to focus yourself on learning stuff you couldn't care less about for multiple years.

We need a whole new educational system, anyway.

I'm in college right now, and I'm FAR more interested in getting new skills than in writing essays about something I know more about than the damn lecturer (failed one of my mates because he used the word "gargantuan" and she thought he made it up...)

Of course, I have a degree. I ONLY need the new skills :p

I have actually met a bunch of people who do not actually value education and there's usually one of two common reasons for that:
1) They think that higher education is not a necessity for an average person's life style. This is most common among people who have parents who did not go to college/university.
2) They don't think education benefits them in any way. Usually this is the excuse for people who want to be "pro athletes" or some kind of celebrity, however this is also common among people who know very specifically what they want to do (I.E. A person who wants to be a Veterinarian not caring about their Math/History classes).

In my school in particular teachers are also a factor as they are less than qualified for their roles and believe assigning busy work = teaching.

I care because I want to have a career at some point, as opposed to living on my parents' sofa, or off of state benefits for the rest of my fucking life.

Happiness.

Or biologically: Dopamine.

Basically, people do what they think will lead to happiness. Happiness can come from many things, e.g. devoting yourself and getting smarter or settling down with a decent job and live life instead of spending it on going to school.

Societies need both kinds of people to survive.

I want to become a video game developer, and maybe set up my own studio.

That's why I go to the course I'm in, and to say that I'm cooler then most people.

When I meet someone new and they ask me, "So, what course are you doing?" and I say, "I do Computer Games Development in Carlow IT."

Their eyes, especially girls, flash with interest.

I'm hot shit.
Become Indie.
Y'know why?

It's ironic how this whole thing is Sponsered by Microsoft, Sony, and Mountain Dew.

No offence but experiance is far more important than education in todays climate, less jobs around and irregardless of how smart you are if a guy's been doing something 5 years longer you're second choice everytime.

None taken. That's a good point, and very well made.

We don't care because we don't write out a check every month to pay for it. It gets sucked out of hidden taxes, gets spread around and people assume it's free. People don't appreciate what they're given without charge, so they don't treat it properly. If parents had to put up their own cash every month, writing out a check they had to hand over to a school, kids would learn, oh would they ever learn because if they didn't, out comes the belt. I didn't take school seriously until I was writing out checks to the university, then I got my ass in gear and studied and graduated with honors.
