You can look at it in several ways:

1) Moviebobs take, which is quite fantastical and not in touch with reality. (mean, jerkish people exist in real life and in anonymity within gaming).

2) The truth of the matter; this will always be a problem and the best thing you can do is avoid the people. Yes this means muting your mic or just not using one (what i do :)).

3) Long for the days of text only chat and blame technological improvements.

Trolls, Elitists, 'Pros' etc. will always exist, in real life and elsewhere. Why? New people are born every day. We learn as time goes on and we change. Everyone goes through an asshole phase at some point. Queue: "I didn't!" spam replies here.

If you don't give them attention and go all angry about it like Moviebob, they will get bored. If you give them something to laugh at (you getting upset) you've given them free entertainment. Ignore them, mute them, ban them, kick them, whatever you can do to get away.

And if they've everywhere, find something else to do because a decade of whining about how big of a problem it is, hasn't made the bad people go away yet, and it never will.

Just being honest.

besides how it's a fact a of life (i.e., jerks are everywhere, all the time), I find most of the stuff they say funny; as for people who kill their teammates, if it's on purpose and they haven't been trying to kill me for 5 minutes I usually give them a second chance and boot them if they don't act better

People like different things I suppose, If you didn't want it wrecked should have built it in single player. My point was it's funny unless it happens to you. I guess that it isn't funny here.
If I didn't want it wrecked I should have put them on a list and gotten them insta-banned on all other servers.

You don't have the power to kick people in Console online games generally.

People are annoying in COD or GOW? Tough luck since you can't remove them. Even games which have vote to kick features generally require a large amount of votes and you generally can't kick people on the other team.

So unless you run a private lobby you have no power to "select" who you play with.
In those cases just mute. Not much else that can be done. If you can't kick or ban the trolls ignoring them will do just fine.

Quite a few things here. First of all it's a problem that requires a community to solve. So far It seems most people just mute the mic which does nothing but delay the problem. It gives the decent players a bad rep and helps people who have nothing to do with gaming marginalize us. If there really is no way to kick or ban people on a game then muting is your only option, sure. But in all the ones you can it pays to make an actual effort to prevent these peopel from affecting as many places as possible.

On a side note please look up the definition of "Elitist" before slinging it around as though it's some sort of derogatory word.

You're welcome to think no one does anything about it, but I personally don't tolerate that shit and am in charge of hosting any given thing for the express purpose of kicking anyone that irritates me after a warning to knock it off.

But then, I'm also ridiculously reclusive and jaded, so.

Your username is "AtheistGuy" and you're complaining about other people being insufferable?

Because everyone is entitled to an opinion, and as long as it is not malicious there's no reason to bother with it. It more says something about the person who takes offense, rather than the person who makes it.

Being the XBL troll I am the only ways to beat a troll is to either kick/mute them or just be the better shit talker. In many cases people tried trolling me so usually(unless im not in the mood)i counter-troll and more then half the time i win(not trying to brag). However if you're facing a pack of trolls its usually safer just to mute/kick them unless you have people to back you up.

Because for 90% of them it's laughable watching their attempts to trash-talk, or whining when they get their asses handed to them.

For the other 10%, y'either don't want to let one bad apple spoil the bunch or their well-structured griefing can actually be a little amusing (this is all on the basis of not so bad that you'd want to leave).

But God help you if you ever come across these guys:

The trolls are inevitable. There is not much we can do about it. The Thing about these trolls that really annoys me is that nearly all trolls I encounter are Racist,Sexist, and dicriminative of People with disablilities And younger gamers. (12, 13, 14 ect.) What i don't understand is why they think all of us are Whiney liity idiots with smart mouths. Plenty of the trolls are whiney themselves.

Unfortunately giving peple the ability to kick people from a game tends to give people power trips and abuse it, and just kick anyone they don't like! Imagine if the CoD community were alowed to kick people they wanted too, you'd be thrown out of matches for the hell of it whether you did anything or not!

I... actually don't deal with 'em. Between lag, poor communication options (seriously, most people's microphone pickups make 'em basically unintelligible... not to mention the part about 'em coming through the same speaker as the game audio), and the prevalence of asshats, I am compelled to avoid online gaming except with people I've known for years.

The mute button is a fantastic thing, but something that most console devs forget about is to put in a kicking function. I really don't know why.

I personally like to troll them back. They call you bad? Kill them a few times (Easier for some than others, I know), they call you something bad? Make some comment about what they're doing (Most of them are functional illiterates who don't understand the words they use- point it out and they collapse, and everyone laughs. They want to make sexual threats? Point out how stupid that is. I had a guy say he did my mum. My response: You do fat old women? That's pathetic.

Another said he'd come around to my house and force me to blow him because, in his words, I am a "fag" (Terrible word). I pointed out that there isn't anything wrong with gays, and laughed at him for being a homophobe when he just said he wanted to do a guy.

I'm straight, but the funniest thing is to not get into the response of who's what. one of my friends owned a guy by playing the gay chicken angle, acting as if he was gay, creeping the guy out and making him RQ.

More to the point, just try to ignore the showboating kiddies. I'm sick of seeing the Grrl gamers, the "pwners", the racists and bigots, the people with offensive names, and the jerks. If you think you can make it less fun for them by fighting back, do it. If you know them, tell them to shut it. And if you don't think you can stop them, then at least don't support them.

Well because if you aren't going to tolerate, you retaliate, which is exactly what they want from you, a reaction. It kinda means they win either way, they get a reaction or you just remain silently pissed off.
