Why do you care whether someone else likes the thing you like? Why do you care even more that they like a thing you don't like? I'm talking specifically about consoles here but this applies to all aspects of life.

I hate Country music, I'm not a fan of rap or hip-hop. Do you know how much I care if you like Country? I don't give the slightest fuck. Do you know how much I care if you hate The Eagles or AC/DC? I'm all out of fucks to give about that particular subject.

I hate horror movies. Why on earth should you care that I hate horror movies? Does it in some way lessen your enjoyment of them? Do you sit and watch them and sigh heavily the entire time thinking to yourself "This movie that was completed and is in it's finalized form would somehow be even better if that one guy who hates horror movies liked this movie like I do"?

I don't dig on classic literature. I don't like baseball. I despise pickles with a white hot intensity.

You know what I think of all the people who like the things I hate? I think "Damn, they get to enjoy one more thing than I'll ever be able to enjoy. I'm kinda jealous of those people."

Why on earth do you care that people don't like the Wii U and won't purchase one? Why do you care that someone prefers Xbox to PS? Why do you feel the need to try and convince people that your thing was a better choice than their thing when you couldn't possibly know every thing that went into their choice (I traded in my 360 for a PS3 because I'd played all the exclusives I cared to play and the bluray player was a huge draw. I never considered a Wii because it didn't have the games I wanted [shut up, I don't care about those games you're about to list, those aren't the ones I wanted to play, and you know who you are] There were other factors but I'm keeping those to myself specifically so you won't know them).

People, please. Enjoy the things you enjoy. Stop caring if others enjoy the things you enjoy. Stop being angry at others for enjoying a thing you don't enjoy and in fact envy those people because they get to enjoy more things than you do and that's a sad thought.

Stop defending or championing the console you own. It's pointless, you'll never change anyone's mind, and seriously why the fuck do you care?

OT: Because if a lot of other people don't like the thing you like and don't give the company that makes it money for it, then that company will stop making the thing you like.

It would be great if art was free. It would be great if games cost nothing to make. But unfortunately, most of us live in reality. And the reality is that if not enough other people are into the stuff you like, it will stop being made.

This, ultimately, is what drives fanboyism. Some fanboys take it too far and assume that any criticism towards their favorite companies will make those companies sad and shut down completely. But, ultimately, the reason people get mad over review scores is that companies also take review scores seriously. I've heard that companies often take huge stock in metacritic scores.

However, it would be nice if people would stop acting superior because they're into a thing that I'm not and that thing is considered "Mature" by the art critics that live in imaginationland.

I don't. But really you mean "why do certain particular fanboys seem to care so much?". And I don't think they do. Not genuinely. They care about as much as a fanatical Muslim cares what you call a cuddly toy. Some of them might go bat-shit crazy and call for all kinds of witch hunts, but it's not real. They do what they do because they think that's how they're supposed to act. They think that others within their inner-most community will respect them more when they act this way. And seeing as those other members are often stuck in the same mindset, they do. Fanboyism, zeal, football hooliganism, it's all the same. It's a desperate attempt to find community and significance by those with a severe lack of such things elsewhere in their lives.

As others have said there's a bit part of it is social, wanting to be cool or having your own taste validated.

But with video games there's a further dimension to it.

If I buy a Wii-U and no-one else buys a Wii-U then pretty quickly developers are going to stop making games for it and I'm going to have made the wrong choice.

If I love Sleeping Dogs but no-one else does then Square-Enix are not going to green-light a sequel. I will be a sad bunny. Even if they do make a sequel they will spend more money on a game that 5,000,000 people bought than one that only 500,000 bought.

If everyone else loves Call of Duty, and I dislike it, I'm very likely to dislike the hundreds of other Modern Military Shooters that are suddenly being released. If I like Dead Space, then I'm going to be upset that it's becoming more and more like CoD.

We know publisher are watching Metacritic scores to decide whether to make a sequel or not. So a reviewer giving an "unfair" score is going to affect that and also drive players away from the game.

If I love King of Fighters, but everyone else loves Street Fighter, then when I'm looking for an on-line match then the KoF servers are going to be empty.

I've definitely worked on not letting get to me when someone likes something I don't care for. You have to what makes you happy, as long as it's not impeding anyone else's pursuit of happiness, and to hell with everyone else's opinion.

With that being said though, as stated before, with video games and the like I sometimes preach the ones I like just for a greater chance that we'll get more of it. For instance, I love Arc System Works fighting games (Guilty Gear, BlazBlue, and Persona 4 Arena/Ultimate) leaps and bounds more than any other fighting game series. The fact is though that they're not terribly popular here in the states and with each new release I'm on pins and needles to see when we'll get it in the states, if at all, due to a fairly low demand. My preaching my beloved airdashers is, in my eyes, a way of me ensuring that I can get more of them.

I just came in here to say that I don't care personally, but we're actually quite insecure about what we like. We want validation from our peers. That's why we want others to like the same things as us, that's why we try to find gaming's Citizen Kane. We want validation from movie critics, we want validation from gamers, we want validation from politicians.

It does go deeper than that though. If I am to meet another person who likes the Tales series then you bet that I will take the opportunity to talk to him about which game he likes the best and so on. Sharing interests means you can have some great conversations, but I'm not trying to push people into liking it. If they don't like it then that's a shame. If someone likes a game I don't then why try to convince them it's bad? If they enjoy something then good for them.

Then of course there's online multiplayer thrown into the mix. I love the Half-Life mod called Hidden: Source. Sadly it's been a while since that game was popular (it was never the BIG thing though) so the servers are often empty. If more people like the games we do the higher the probability of playing a good online match gets.

Honestly I have such unpopular opinions on so many things that I could care less what other people think about anything.

Examples:

I think the Marvel Comic: Avengers Arena is extremely good and is a must read for Marvel Comic fans.

I think Superior Spider-Man is a great revitalization of the Spider-Man mythos and also is a must read.

I think that the Amazing Spider-Man movie is better than all of the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy.

I think that the Transformer movies, while not good perse, are fun movies that do deserve to exist (and I don't mean turn your brain off, I mean that they are fun and a waste of time)

I think Mike Nelson was and is funnier than Joel Hodgson on MST3K. And I think that is proven even more in the recent years with Rifftrax vs Cinematic Titanic.

Bioshock 1 is boring. Bioshock 2 is entertaining. Bioshock Infinite is awesome.

The ending to Mass Effect 3 is good and the multiplayer is fun.

The Civilization series has finally hit it's perfection with Civ 5.


I could give more than that but I think I make my point. A lot of people would disagree with me on all of those opinions and you know what? I don't care. I've never cared. When people disagree with me on things like that, things that don't really matter all I hear is this:

I think you can voice your support for something without crossing the line into douchieness. You can also criticize something without sounding like a total idiot. If people don't support things, a lot of games would never get the sales or attention they deserve. If we don't criticize games, games will not move forward.

I think it's a chain reaction. Let me explain:

One guy doesn't like a game, and says that aloud. Most people are somewhat insensitive about the language they use so he'll probably say "that game was shit!". Somebody will be offended by this statement and get mad at the way people keep insulting this excellent game, telling her that she's wrong to like it. She'll then reply with a gushing comment telling the guy that he has bad taste and explaining why the game is so good. Then a third guy we come on to the scene and see someone effectively telling him that he's wrong to dislike the game, that he's wrong to have his opinion and he too will get mad.

I think it's mostly people reacting to each others' extreme reactions. And sometimes, when you see someone talking insensitively about how your opinions are wrong, it's hard not to jump in with your own counter.

Because debating different interests actually makes for interesting conversation? People come here to discuss games and consoles. A group of people want to discuss what they think of a particular console or title, some people love it, some people hate it and it's perfectly fine to express your feelings towards something, that's why we're all here.

Heated arguments are going to arise for a number of different reasons. This is especially true online where there's a lack of body, facial and voice cues to make it explicitly clear exactly how the person is speaking. If things get too confrontational, walk away then.

However, my main problem is the way this specific person express his/her hate for Videogame I like

If someone explain his/her reasons why he/she hate a game, I accept that and I move on.
But to have someone to act childlish and behave like an assh*le, it get somehow to my nerves....

Finally I speak for games I like because I love to talk about videogames [duh logic], not because to convince someone to like the games I like.

For example I created 3 different Threads about Skullgirls to express my love for the game, not to make the others love it.

This kind of sums up my feeling on the feminist movement in video games as of late.

On topic: I don't care. I don't care what others like or hate. I think it's childish to complain about something you hate when you could devote that energy into finding or creating something you would enjoy. When I hate something, I move on and find something to do that I enjoy. It isn't hard. Stop complaining and enjoy the wide, unrestricted world full of limitless options.
