Why do you fear death?

I don't particularly fear the prospect of being dead. In fact, I'm kind of curious as to what, if anything, happens after I die.

That said, I do fear the process of dying. From what I hear, it tends to be painful. Besides, there must be some reason we have such a strong instinct for self-preservation. And I'm not one to second guess my own instincts.

I don't really fear death itself. I think it's kind of interesting to think about it, and if there's anything afterwards.
Oh course I don't want to die, but still; the subject of "death" is very curious.

I'm not really afraid of death. I don't even think about it. I know it will happen, that I don't know how, and I don't know what happens after that, if anything. But it's not a focus of mine. Rather than fear death, I live life.

Actually, have a friend that told me he gets depressed whenever he thinks about death. I told him not to do that, then. Sounds pretty easy to me. Lol

I fear the deaths of those close to me. I'm afraid of how I'm going to react when my closest friends die. How will I live without them?

I know I'm supposed to live on for them, for myself, and somehow find a way to forge ahead without them. But that terrifies me.

I'm a little worried about my own death. I have my will all set up and I've appointed an executor of my estate who I trust will look after the people most important to me. I know my insurance will cover half of my house so I don't have to worry about that debt.

As for myself, I hope to self-publish a book or two before I go, so I'll be further immortalised in this world, not just in the memories of those who remember and know me.

I don't fear death, since once I'm dead I will not feel anything at all, let alone anything unpleasant that I should actually be afraid of.

I do, however, fear the excruciating pain I am likely to experience during the moments before I die.

Because there is nothing beyond that, I percieve it almost like a perpetual dreamless sleep.

Because of the afterlife.
Is it even there? What kind is it? Which way i go? What happens when i get there? Do we finally get the cake?

Two things

1. The possibility of there being no afterlife so I just cease to exist I'm not a religious person but I like to think there's an afterlife

2. Being buried and forgotten.

NOTE: Ninja'd by the post above me and probably countless others I guess I need to read more before I post.

I was hit by a car when I was 12 and I almost died.

Trust me, if you don't fear death, you should start. Death is one scary ************.
