Because they are a poison to creativity in a creative industry.

As others have pointed out, this pales on the scale of hateability in the face of human rights issues, but within the game industry, they are the worst in the business, hands down. They aren't violating human rights, but they are violating consumer rights much of the time, and as a consumer, I won't stand for that.

I don't hate them. Hating a corporation for doing what every other video game corporation has done is ridiculous. Everything EA has done to piss people off has been done by Take-Two, THQ, Nintendo, Sony, MS, and Activision in almost equal or more measures with the exception of Origin(which is optional anyways).

I dislike a lot of the choices EA has made over the year, but then again, I have more justifiable anger towards many other companies.

I don't purchase many EA games so I don't take every chance I get to to a shot at EA over repetitive reasons like most people on this site. I like to make better use of my time. I don't take the decisions of video game companies personally, I'll criticize them when they fuck up, but that's about it.

Why I dislike EA is because their ideals run contrary to my ideals.

They try to force and control everything about their property in ways I find egregious. I understand not owning a product, but they have been championing this... 'you're renting our property for as long as we see fit' mentality. This 'You are under the subjection of our code, and if we even think you are going against it, we will terminate you' mentality.

I believe owning a copy isn't trying to own the ip. And I believe everyone at EA believes the same thing. If anyone from the Butcher who cuts their meat to the company produces their toilets came in saying that they weren't using the products in their homes as they intended and took away said products... they would sue. You purchase a product, you own the product. You don't own the idea. you don't own the ip. That's the same reason why we have copyrights. The extra steps that EA takes to try to have more control over their stupid games and force us to pay however or whatever the costs they decide borders on the ridiculous.

And 'stupid games' is my opinion, but is not out of anger. Their production has gone downhill. Maybe there are CEOs on the higher levels they do not game, but they try to bland all the games to the point that most are not satisfied. Point of fact, I have never heard of a gamer being happy for streamlining. Yet companies do it all the time.

And lastly, they do not seem to want to take risks any more. The EA touch saps games of originality.

The developers might be the mouth piece, but honestly, what person would say while they are still under the employ of other 'Hey, we liked our original image, but the upper ups said we had to change it.'

Overstrike [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VC-X_2rgApw&feature=related] vs Fuse [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tERz8e3rxU4&feature=plcp], anyone?

Wait, isn't Origin now bundled with all new EA products like Steam/Steamworks?

Hate is a strong word, dislike feels more appropriate.

When it comes to business practices EA takes the cake for the worst. Day 1 DLC, that conference where they talked about having to pay to reload(words cannot express...), Online Passes, Bad PR, Buying out competition, Milking consumers, said competition bought is run to the ground, Origins ALWAYS. WATCHING. YOU., banning players for making BF3 more colorful, saying single player doesn't sell, an so on and so on.

But the worst part is, they are self aware of their own evil... its like they're run by Cobra Commander and the executive manager is frikin Starscream.

Yes, and has to be connected if you want to play any of your save games.

I find them disappointing with how they rip off their customers with shit like day 1 dlc, and for some reason most EA published games I own did come with a lot of bugs, and others are really unbalanced like Zero Hour.

There we go, Origin.

All the negative of Steam without any of the positives, all poorly wrapped in spyware.

Easy.

Broader Appeal.

They do it to Dead Space right now.
And i am 100 percent sure that broader appeal is the reason why Dragon Age 2 had this horrible, just horrible combat engine. Urgh.

You still don't have to sign up for it. For example, there was a thread here on the Escapist by someone who was mad at EA because he was told (not by EA or Bioware, but by a random person on the TOR threads) that he had to sign up for Origin in order to play The Old Republic. After his lengthy ragepost, myself and some others who were playing TOR at the time told him that what he was told was either a lie or misinformation.

What kills me is that he tried to debate us simply on the fact that EA was involved so it had to be their fault...

The issue I have with EA is that they consume small creative companies and yet all they seem to churn out most of the time is generic crap. Another thing is that they were one of the first to place online passes on their games / they are trying to kill buying used games.

I guess the fact that all they care about is money. Sure they're a company but that doesn't excuse their stupidity, creating sequels of games that didn't need them or sequels where the game is completely changed from the original game. And the fact they drive companies in to the ground, love you pandemic :(
Ditto on that. It's like they took your high school sweetheart and turned her into a crack-whore. You can kinda see the girl you once knew and loved but she'll never be the same again.

I think TOR was the last large EA game that was an optional Origin install, ME3 required Origin even if you bought a physical copy like a Steamworks game.

I still hold hope she can turn her life around and get away from that scruff EA, he's bad news.
