Why do you hate Skyrim?

I like the game. I do get tired of the fact that nearly every quest takes place in a dungeon and that most of their quests still have little depth behind them, but it's much better than Oblivion.

I couldn't stand Oblivion and I find it to be a horrible, shallow, buggy and stupid game, but I've been playing Skyrim non-stop for the past few days. I am kinda mad that steam broke my >2gb mod with their stupid update, which downloaded automatically for me, even though I turned off auto-update. This has turned my Skyrim experience into a less enjoyable one, but whatever.

I know this is going to get me punched, but I really don't like Skyrim any more because of the hype; I thought it sounded like it'd be worth checking out, but now when I hear Skyrim I want to pull out my own ear drums. I don't hate it, I'm just slightly annoyed by it.

i dont hate it, but it seems a below average quality game, ive yet to find anything about it that makes it special from other fantasy games. everything you can do in it can be done in other games.
in short: not bad, but not good either

I have a buddy who I think kinda hates Skyrim because he's had to listen to the rest of us blabbing about it non-stop all year, hehe. :D
Pretty much my own reason right there. Never in all my staggering 19 years have i ever seen more hype around a game than Skyrim. If it lives up to the hype then that's great for all the people who've been looking forward to it, but frankly i didn't much like the previous Elder Scrolls games and won't be buying into this one anytime soon.

So please, stop cramming the game down our throats.

The big reason I don't like Skyrim to much is the lack of progression between Oblivion and Skyrim. Let's be fair, not much has changed drastically mechanic wise between the two games, I'm still exploring a overly large world without a whole lot of focus leveling up my avatar strength. Combat still comes down to number then a true test of skill, and the huge number of bugs in the engine still have not been worked out. Skyrim is nothing new, and while the core of it is still an okay game, it has failed to do what a sequel should do: be different. Quite frankly is was not eagerly waiting for Skyrim to come out because I had a suspicion that it was gong to just be more of Oblivion, and for the most part I was correct. Although this may just be my hatred for games that rely on avatar strength for progression rather that true difficulty for progression.

I don't hate Skyrim. I've spent about 100 hours in game so far. There are a number of things I really dislike about the game though.

The biggest issue I have with Skyrim is that it's ridiculously dumbed down. The ES series always had a deep level up system that allowed for player choice ie. str, sta etc. The class system, use major/minor skills to level up worked well for the game world and helped to differenciate between a warrior and say a mage or a hybrid. Now it's just oh, do what ever you want, use what ever you want and it all advances the player in level. In short, it makes ppl a jack of all trades, master of none.

As others have said, the UI and menus are giant steps backwards. Often times I feel like I am fighting with the menus or the UI. For a game that streamlined those aspects it's frustrating to feel like you're fighting the menus/UI.

It's not a bad game at all, it has the potential to be one of the best western RPG's ever released, but when coupled with the bugs, dumbing down and wretched menus it's just average.

I hate Skyrim Maan, because, like. It's popular and shit and everyone knows, like. Popular stuff sucks.

OT: I love Skyrim, I'm enjoying every moment of it. People are far to quick to state they hate things, the word has lost all meaning! By all means "don't fancy it" or be "pissed off that you spent money on it and didn't find it to your tastes", But hate? What did it kill your parents or something?

Uh... really? I've seen almost no-one dislike the game at all. I myself preferred Morrowind to Oblivion, but I think Skyrim has surpassed both.
Skyrim is fantastic, but doesn't surpass morrowind, it simply is a new, more user-friendly morrowind. and people only hate skyrim because we won't shut up about it

BECAUSE SKYRIM IS JUST THAT DAMN GOOD.

I don't hate Skyrim per se. The thing that pisses me off though is how Bethesda and Steam basically teamed-up to try to make it un-moddable. Their recent patch made it so the game has a bunch of checks just to see if it's running through Steam. If it isn't, it won't run. If it is, it only allocates 2GB of RAM to it. 2GB is enough to run the vanilla game, but if you have ANY graphic mods it crashes-to-desktop almost every two minutes.

It took me three whole days just to figure out how to bypass the update. Now it works, but holy crap. Screw you Steam. Screw you Bethesda.

Right now I'm about 88% sure the OP is making this up. Nobody hates this game, maybe they hate a bug or some dumb update from Bethesda... but...

Also, I didn't like Oblivion but I think Skyrim is the shit. I also didn't play Morrowind.

It seems to me that the same people who hated Oblivion because it wasn't more like Morrowind, are now hating Skyrim because it isn't more like Oblivion.
Quite the contrary actually; I (and many of the fandom I've talked to) love Skyrim because it's not like Oblivion and more like Morrowind. People didn't like Oblivion because it was shallow, monotonous, felt small, and lacked the "magic" of Morrowind's world. (not to mention the asinine leveling system and scaled enemies/loot)

Skyrim addressed the leveling system, the scaled enemies/loot are handled better, the world is richer, more diverse, and more immersive, the combat is improved even further, and while it occasionally feels a bit "streamlined", there's a lot here to like for the Morrowind fans that hated Oblivion.

I own the game and love it, but there are certain aspects of it that while I do not "hate" they do frustrate the hell out of me.

I cannot stand Ice Trolls/Bears. It seems to me that if I am a character fully capable of killing dragons with relative ease, I damned well ought to be able to kill a bear and not feel elated by it.

Speaking of things that I should be able to kill without a panic save beforehand, random bandit chiefs, who armed only with an iron sword are capable of killing me in 3 hits while my Legendary weapon/Armor is apparently made by the Legendary tissue paper company for all the good it does me. It's not that I mind that they are a higher level than me, or that they are strong; its that when I finally kill them I would like to feel rewarded for it, either with gold or a legit item, not the feeling of "Oh goody an iron sword. Just what I needed." or "Hurray! 8 gold coins! Surely King Midas never fathomed such wealth!" But that's it really, its a very well done game.

I hate the fact that if you sell you Thieves Guild Armor (like I did), you lose a fence and the ability to finish a Thieves Guild quest line.
Why would you sell your armor...? And why didn't you buy it back?

Nothing, I hate nothing about Skyrim. I no complaints about the game.

I far from hate Skyrim, but it's not better than Morrowind either in my book. I guess I can tell you what I dislike about it, though, since that's the topic title:

1) Still so buggy. We're still having the save file size issue? After what, 4 games? Really Bethesda?

2) It feels like every dungeon exists solely for the sake of a quest or mission. Missions are cool, but there goes my desire to explore Skyrim as a scholar/fortune hunter, which is what connected me to Vvardenfell as a land in the first place. Speaking of learning about cultures...

3) ...Skyrim is nowhere near as interesting as Vvardenfell. I've never been that big on viking shit.

4) It's not The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

I feel this arguement is more a personal taste thing then anything else but anyway this ties into your point.

Vvardenfell was largely an ash covered wasteland that had some greenery in terms of swamps or it's plains, but for the most part it was a brown mess. I for one liked it but most didn't, and when Oblivion came around everyone jumped to it's HDR graphics.

When they started to make Skyrim and bring back Morrowind fans, they started to make the landscape more stylized, but as a way to keep it varied and not to lose Oblivion fans they left the fantasy forests toward the middle of the province. Especially around Whiterun.

I agree with your statement the dungeons only seem like they're there just for a quest, and frankly I think Bethesda coded them all that way since they figured most Oblivion players would just find a quest, fast travel to a dungeon and complete it, lacking any exploration at all.
