So many years ago I made a thread like this asking why everyone chose the avatar they use, so I thought that since the forums have become more active again I'd ask the same question.

So as to mine, my avatar is of Fegor from Trillion: God of Destruction. I usually choose my avatars based on my general attitude at the time. I had Siarnaq (Character from Megaman ZX: Advent) as my avatar way back when since it represented my more angry disposition at the time and the general chaos and angry discussions back then.

Anyway, back to Fegor, the reason I have her as my avatar is because she's lazy and tired, which fits my current disposition of being weary of the argumentative communities of the internet (I play League of Legends and I'm really sick of the community there. The boards just whine and cry and complain day in and day out) and also with me being on the night shift at my job now. Plus Fegor is cool and funny, which is always a nice thing.

So why is your avatar your avatar then? Any story behind it or the character it represents? Did you just pick it because of their expression? Anyway, share your stories!

Well I had the title card of BBC's Life on Mars since 2009. So I decided to swap over. I like the character, plus I find as I get older I'm becoming more sociable, lively and generally excited by things (not necessarily in apositive way, but excitable nonetheless). People keep telling me that should work in reverse, but I figure now that I'm not so young anymore I don't have to pretend to look cool and professional anymore. Life has sort of given me everything I need that I need less from everyone else as time has gone by.

Getting older is great...

Everybody reckons a midlife crisis is you just trying torecapture your youth, but I reckon that's bollocks. I reckon by the time I'm 40 people will tell me I'm having a midlife crisis, but then I'll just point to the last ten years of my life (when I'm 40 that is) and just outline the general trend.

Seriously, for all the people that go through a 'midlife crisis' doyou actually ever see them grow out of it? No. At least not happy people.

I felt for a long time since I was young that I was an old man stuck in a young person's body. I only felt like I've finally become an adult this year because I've started thinking "Man these kids don't know anything!"

Rarity is best pony anyway, can't go wrong with that.

It's David Lynch. He's an artist I admire. That's about it. I was wondering what picture would represent me well and I settled on a surrealist film director and painter with a mildly dissaproving look on his face.

Mine's a minion from League of Legends.

It used to be a smiling cat, which I chose when the site was in the throes of Gamergate, so I thought it would be good to have a friendly avatar. However, I chose against it, as:

1) The cat really doesn't suit my actual personality (far more reserved/introverted) - not that an awe-wielding suicide soldier is much better.

2) At the time, I was having a row with a user (forget who, and about what), so I changed it to something more aggressive.

Simple, it goes with my username. I used to have a Shenron avatar for the longest time, but then I stopped being a Dragon Ball fan and needed to change it.

I can't see mine nor change it. I'm guessing it's still the NPC sprite from Undertale. Edit: I can see it when I'm not logged in and it has changed to something else. I don't even know what that is.

It fits my name. It also looks distinguished AF, which I'm also fine with. That's about it, really.

1) It's the only one of several Avatars that I've gotten compliments on.

2) Like your 'midlife crisis' story, it's a small bit of one of my favorite shows when I was growing up, and to this very day I can respect the amount of effort put by writers and Mainframe's graphical pioneers into a show that was made to sell toys. Every time I see that picture I hear Scott McNeil's lovely growling voice. It was either this one, or:

3) While the character himself is far from a role model, I've tried to make 'Honor' one of my guiding rules in life.

It represents my love for Streets of Rage and the beat'em up genre in general. And when first coming on here I got plenty of comments on it. All positive.

Yeah... but that being said being an adult just means you can be a big kid. I've recently realized that. Like with my cousin's kid. She just loves my desert gear, maps and associated journals attached to them of my explorations around the place. And I tell her about amazing things you can see, like coral reefs you can walk on at low tide ... multicoloured otherwise/partly submerged wonderlands, and the multitude of life that you will see in sun drenched ponds of crystal clear water and coral slime. I recently taught her how you read a compass and set bearings against a topographical map, learning how to calculate true north from magnetic north depending on where you are in the world. How to correctly wear and secure your webbing and use various bits of climbing gear.

Not that I took her climbing, mind ... just a basic instruction of how it all works.

She looks at that stuff in the same way I do, bristling with ideas of adventure and new things to experience. Just with less wisdom, but certainly not lacking in intellect. Children are parents to the adult. Whether because they grow up themselves, or because we help them ground their thoughts in reality.

Kids are alright. I don't think I'd be a very good parent, and I've always believed if you're not sure you probably should avoid it. But I think through my cousin's spawn I've reconnected what I loved about teaching years ago.

Even the dreaded first year uni student I don't find so grating anymore.

Also, damn straight Rarity is best horse.

My username is Catfood220, so the avatar is a bag of cat food. It fits. I sometimes feel like changing it, but I can't be arsed.

In actuality this avatar is a placeholder, because I was gonna put an avatar of Michael De Santa from GTA 5, but for some reason I couldn't upload an avatar here, so I just went with the avatars the Escapist provides so I settled with Aragorn.

Mine is from the cartoon "Wild Kratts" (haven't seen much of it, even though I was a huge fan of "Kratt's Creatures" back in the day. Anyone remember that show?) Anyway, in this cartoon the brothers have special suits that let them mimic animals... including their instincts. Hence why Martin here (as a bass) has a glassy-eyed expression as a fish lure passes him by. I've had it for a while and I might change it if I can find anything else...

I've needed a refresher on what my picture is actually from for a while, and after a little bit of time I've relearned that my picture is of a character called Hex, who apparently is the god of the Last Man Standing universe, and I just love the look of the character. He's got that slick suit with the neon highlights, and I'm really in love with the idea of just cosplaying him, just so I could own a helmet or mask of some kind to mimic the head.

I say I needed a refresher on my picture because it bugged out a number of weeks ago for me and all I can see is the default escapist avatar for my profile, even after logging out and changing it in the settings. Stupid site.

To give some love to a lesser known franchise.
Before this avatar I had an avatar of Izanagi from Persona 4 in a Gurren Lagann style, so I had someone whip up the red star-like transition to that image from the Love Catch mid-episode scenes. At once point I felt like changing it. I kept the transition but added some static to show a change in direction, and then changed the image to Maja from the Spectrobes series. I like the art someone did for her, and I wanted to get the character out there a little

Someone sent it to me.
I'm a wrestling fan. I adore stupid shit that wrestlers sometimes do for promo purposes, or just in general.
This is the best stupidest shit I could find of a wrestler in jpeg form. I even have a folder dedicated to stupid wrestler faces.

It's the best.

I love Lucio. He's everything I want in a hero. He was my main when I still played it. I know he has low damage, but he was for the team and he is for the people who have no one to represent them. That is all I am about.

I've always held a deep respect for Norway and its people, so I wanted my Avatar to represent Norway's most important cultural contribution.
