Why do you like anime?

I think the Pokemon games are fun and addictive as hell. I like collecting things, especially when those things are monsters.

the thing about anime is that if you hang in there you will eventually get it

the reason I like anime so much is that it starts. from "go" it's just on and you pick up stuff as you go from flashbacks (horrible example)

one of my favorite animes is My Hime
it's a story about a girl who gets a scholarship to some good school
and she kills orphans with her pet dragon
and that would make sense if you had seen it
but the first episode starts off with a girl in a latex jumpsuit blowing up a boat with a robot wolf
it's not supposed to make sense it's supposed to be awesome

if you watch most animes through they will make sense (to a point)
but you can't go in looking for it to make sense off the bat
just enjoy the spectacle

I like some anime because it still feels like it's being made to tell a story. While most (not all) tv shows and movies these days seem like they're just made to make money, they do whatever will appeal to mass audiences. Anime can be thought provoking with interesting characters that can draw you in and get you caught up in the emotion of the story.

I hope you're not applying "relateable and likeable" to Evangelion. I wouldn't group Evangelion and Clannad together, either.

Actually am applying relateable and likeable to Evangelion. Shinji is one of the most human characters I've ever seen in an anime (I'm one of the few people who think he's a really great character). And you must not have seen very far into Clannad...

I like the humor (usually) and the over the top action and other things that would cost ridiculous amounts of cash if you tried to do them live action.

I have said it a million times and I'll say it again: Anime is not an all encompassing genre. I really hate it when people ask "Do you like Anime? Yes or no?" because I can't answer, there are Animes that I like and Animes that I hate; to me that's like asking "Do you like movies? Yes or no?" Anime is not its own singular genre. Like movies, books, games, it abides by sectioned genres such as horror, sci-fi, comedy, action, drama, etc.

So asking my why I like Anime is just as pointless. There are plenty of Japanese animated shows/movies I love and plenty that I hate. It depends on the show itself and whether or not I'm interested in its genre.

Maybe if you specified a certain anime that I liked, I could tell you but the reason why I like it would be unique to that particular anime. But I can't say I like every anime nor can I say I hate every one. So I can't tell you why I like it when you stuff it into one singular genre.

Since i love GITS and The twelve kingdoms, i must say i love it mostly when the story and background are thoroughly thought through and work well together.
I watch it the same as i watch any good movie, most anime i consider pulp or uninteresting, just as most normal series/movies.
The fact that anime gives me something different then the standard hollywood (or western, if you will) storytelling is also high on that list.

I'm with you on Shinji; really, he's only particularly whiny towards the beginning (where he's just starting the whole giant robot thing) and end (because of well, End). For the most part, he strikes me as what would happen if you put Charlie Brown in a mecha series (I actually have a half-baked theory of Peanuts motifs for the series).

I'm not a huge anime fan but there are some I like:

Deathnote
Gundam Wing
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Outlaw Star

The art style means nothing to me (not that it's bad or anything, Cowboy Bebop is one example of beautiful art), it's all about the story. When something, anything (even anime) offers me something interesting I haven't seen before I go for it.

But I like how diverse anime is. It's not like if you're an anime fan, one can already assume what kind of a person you are, despite that being the stereotype. And anime is influencing so much that's out there..

I just like that there's something out there for everyone.

I used to, when I was ten, but then I grew out of it.

Besides, there are a lot of people at my school who like anime, and all of them are really weird. They all dress up in black; they make weird expressions with their faces, kind of like they are trying to emulate what anime characters do; and some of them even meow. I'm not kidding, they just randomly meow, because they think it's "anime" or whatever.

I'm sure that you're not all like that though?

Fuck no. I don't understand how watching anime warrants acting like that. Granted, I got nothing against them, but I would never act like that.

I like anime, because I find some of it entertaining. Granted, it's been months since I've seen any shows.

Try watching High School of the Dead. It is porn, just covered up by rather fortunate objects. It is very hard to take seriously.

OT: I like it because the majority of it takes no specific guidelines and does whatever the fuck it wants. Anyone remember DBZ (of course you do). That show was so amazing random and awesome.

i like anime because every now and again i want to watch a good cartoon and since anything on tv now looks like ren and stimpy. dont get me wrong RaS was a great show but i dont want to watch that all the fucking time.Its kinda sad when i can bring an anmie to a baby-sitting job and it not be a problem with the parents.

I've watched quite a few animes but there is only three that I like, Full Metal Alchemist, Cowboy Bebop and Death Note. And I'm not sure that I would like FMA if I did'nt watch it with my sister(who got me in to anime) that anime created a bond between me and my sister. The other two i just because off their artstyle, interesting concepts, remerberble scenes and in CBs case, a fucking awesome soundtrack.

I grew up on the classic 90s toons. but at the turn of the century the new generation of cartoons started sucking and then i saw DBZ and i was like wow a cartoon with an actual plot. and ever since i watch anime bc they usually have a story to it and not just some random mini adventures

In those I like, I am attracted to their often individualistic messages, unconventional and freeform approach to genre(s), and storywise they go places seldom explored in western media (lonely deities, church oppression, analysis of medieval economics??? I'm game!). The sharp-lined artstyle, especially when kept more low-key in terms of colour, also appeal to me.
