I like all kinds of music, mainly rock, alternative, pop, J-Pop, J-rock, Celtic, reggae... I guess I just like having something to listen to.

I'm the kind of person that you see thouroghly enjoying Beethoven's 9th but can see the brilliance and beauty of Nine Inch Nails(huge fan). I literally can see something to like to almost every kind of music like jazz, blues, metal, old rock, classical, eletronic/house/trance/acid house and all that. There's just one kind of musical stereotype that i don't understand, and that's the one that ONLY listens to club music, bieber and all that because it's easy to dance to. I'm befuddled if they are in any way moved by the music they listen to, if they feel joy, sorrow or any kind of feeling while listening to... that.

Oh and under the stereotype chategory, i'm not any kind of musical stereotype, i may hang out with metalheads or industrial freaks, bu i don't look like either, I have invented myself in my own way, I know that there are many peoiple that say that THEY are special and different from other people but really are just fitting in.... I'm truly different.

Some of my favourites include: Ratatat, Nine Inch Nails, Rammstein, Marilyn Manson, Death, Deadmau5, Wolfgang Garnter, Autechre, Aphex Twin, Psyclon Nine, Bring The Horizon, Dimmu Borgir, Sabaton, Two Steps From hell, Audiomachine and many, many more.

I listen to both Folk music AND Black metal, yet I don't have a beard, tends to separate me out a bit. Also with regards to the second of those I don't have long hair, though I would if it was easier to wash. So yeah, I don't outwardly fit in with those groups. I find that they're pretty friendly though, although outwardly the metal fans especially can look a bit rough, they're a decent bunch once you get to know them. So essentially no, I listen to music I like regardless of who listens to it, and I am yet to find a reason to change this.

I'm liking the number of people who clearly just read the thread title. Also kudos to Metal Hipster, I'm going to think of something witty and edit it in here.

Judging people by the music they listen to is silly. Now if they listen to a certain type of music exclusively and live a lifestyle associated with that music then I guess you can judge them. I wouldn't judge them necessarily in a negative light but I would think they are limiting themselves.
I listen to all kinds, depends on my mood and what I am doing. I listen to music because I need to. It's food for my soul. I keep a spare mp3 player just in case I break or lose the one I have because if I go 2 to 3 days without one I start getting depressed.

I have a very eclectic taste in music and wear it as a badge of pride.

But I think a funny story is in order- in my home town nights out clubbing are a dead miss, most clubs do only dire music apart form one, a rock and heavy metal night called Discord. Now I never knew about it until I befriended a bunch of rather awesome metalheads who invited me along after spending a lesson gushing about music together, but when I turned up at the club in a shirt, jeans and smart shoes they werent impressed- to say I stood out in a crowd of sweaty pale skinned people in leather was an understatement, it was kinda funny.

I listen to all types of music because it relaxes me when I had a stressful day and I love hearing new types of music. A friend of mine just introduced me to some new Dubstep and D&B artists

What exactly are the stereotypes related to prog rock, I wonder?
Accountants and Dads.

I listen to mostly alternative rock (Radiohead, Can, Deerhoof, Strokes) and hip-hop (Lupe Fiasco, Wu-Tang, Nas, Pete Philly & Perquisite). The stereotypes for those two genres are incompatible.
