Even though i don't like them, many of my friends play and enjoy those kind of games, but never give any reasons why (They are retarded like that). This leaves me curious,so, why do you play JRPG's?

I like them because they generally have quite good stories in my opinion. I also like not having the stress of finding out I fucked up my character by picking the wrong stats in early game. With JRPGs everyone is usually a set class or in say FFVII's case everyone is more or less the same in combat you just choose which spells they have. I find this quite handy as I have already said you don't end with a gimped character because you ended up doing a few shit choices at the start.

Because I find them fun, I find the characters (mostly) very endearing and the stories interesting and thrilling, I like that every character has his or her very unique personality.

I like job systems, I like learning new abilities and testing them and mastering them and using them in a great strategy and overcoming challenging bosses with tactics instead of brute force

It's the same why I like any RPG, regardless of origin. Though RPGs without good characters, stories, skills and challenges aren't fun.

They usualy have very polished graphics, great stories, I don't have that urge like i did in Dragon Age: Orgins to restart the game with different race etc. Also, in FF games i like the turn based combat.

I don't play them. I am actually in the same boat as you. I don't really understand the absolute obsession with JRPG's when there are most certainly more entertaining games out there. Better stories and whatenot.

I enjoy them?

The tend to have better story's and characters than most other RPGs i play.
I really enjoy the Manga/Anime style that most have.

I really like turn based JRPGs because they add a element of strategy, planning out how your turns will go, the skills your characters, and trying to plan for the moves that your opponents will use.

To me they are FAR from boring.
A lot of the time they can get frantic.

I play them due to the way the stories are told - in my opinion JRPG's usually do a much better job of telling a story than their Western counter-parts. Whilst the story is often linear it usually gives a chance for each character to be developed, to change and to offer the player a deeper insight into their mindset; something that, despite all the praise they get, companies such as Bioware don't seem to do with their storytelling; even WRPG's such as Too Human, that has a linear story-style, don't do a particularly good job of telling a story in the same way a JRPG does.

I also agree with the points made in this post; I also prefer the combat and "world-map" to be separate, personally.

Because the stories tend to be well-developed, characters tend to vary between well-developed and at least interesting, the games are usually in an art style I find pleasant, and I can't recall playing one that had gameplay systems I truly disliked.

In other words...they're fun.

For me, they are among the games well suited for brain-dead playing. Turn based combat allows a lot of slack, the story in most cases is pretty irrelevant to the world and action and feels as somewhat detached from the actual gameplay.
So yeah, through negative feelings towards a relaxing silly fun. As long as one enjoys it.

They last a long time and generally offer a sense of accomplishment the more you complete. IMO they aren't as good as they used to be, but they still last longer than the maximum of 3 day games.

Well, the story would be a no-brainer. Most of them gives me deep and interesting stories, nice characters without the"Paper-personality" and nice interesting settings.

Note* Paper-personality is a character that you put your own choices into. WRPG likes to have them, but you'll have to admit that they're not the best character of their own games. They're usually surpassed by the minor-characters.

I like JRPGs because of the story. They have a certain depth which the western market seem to be missing. I can't say that I cared when your character dies(unless you got the DLC) at the end of Fallout 3, but when the main character died in Crisis Core, I cried, like, really badly. This ability to play with my emotions gives these games such a greater meaning.

Particularly in the Final Fantasy franchise, it's pretty much an interactive movie, and I actually like that. Not to mention those jaw dropping graphics that they seem to have nowadays.

First and foremost, the gameplay. A lot of the best gameplay systems I've found are some of the more obscure JRPGs (e.g. Mana Khemia). Truly, some of the most transcendent gameplay experiences I've had the pleasure of experiencing are modern JRPGs. Beats the crap out of whatever (cover/noncover)(first-/third-)person shooters churned out nowadays.

Secondly, I find they do a lot more to flesh out the characters, IMO. People can go on about how they fit into certain archetypes, but a lot of the games go beyond that and fit beyond the mold. People are given normal interests and skills that may surprise you. And most importantly, there's a distinct focus on Japanese games on the idea of motivation. You get a sense of what's important to a character and why, and that's something that's missing in a lot of western titles.

I play them, but it's not like I exclusively play them.
A bad game is a bad game, and I won't play a bad game just because it's a JRPG. Likewise, a good game is a good game and I won't ignore it because it's a JRPG.

Like many other here, I like the tighter story-telling in the JRPGs. It's more like "being entertained" like watching a movie than trying to carve out your own story.

They tend to have better stories, I generally like RPG stat and item management, they have a good deal of exploration and puzzle-solving (two of the most important things to me in a game), and I like the art direction in many of them (floating continents and airships are awesome).

On a combat note, however, I prefer to see the enemies on the map (i.e Chrono Trigger) and for the system to be action-oriented (i.e Tales of Symphonia) or strategic (i.e Fire Emblem, if that counts).

Because I enjoy them... Not everything needs a specific reason you know? I do have more specific reasoning, but you really shouldn't need them to except something someone else likes.
These types of threads are so unnecessary.
